Meanwhile in the Atletico-Juve game a penalty call was rightly overturned by VAR (Costa clearly outside the box). Win some, lose some I guess.
You can make a case for Otamendi’s being a penalty, to be clear. It’s one of those dumb ball to hand or hand to ball things that the sport can’t find a clear way to decide. But the card really gets on my nerve as it’s plainly obvious that the player is doing everything possible to avoid making contact. Then, of course, it takes 3 minutes to review what is supposedly a clear and obvious error so everyone wins all around

How do you feel about it now?

Otamendi on a yellow is basically like everyone else on a yellow and 10 consecutive fouls

Edit: but I was not made less annoyed by the news that the VAR screen was broken so the ref never saw it and someone somewhere just made the call

Had $50 on a draw in the Schalke/City fixture to win ~$240. On top of a brutal beat, I had to root for City briefly

Currently accepting thoughts and/or prayers

Bump for today's return legs.

Ajax have a smaller mountain to climb trying to overturn a 2-1 deficit away at the Bernabeu. Madrid is reeling coming off the double home losses to Barca. I hope Bale and Marcelo start and pout and give up. They will almost certainly advance, but Ajax have a fun squad.

In a rematch of the walking dead (which are now notably less dead, but walking abilities remain questionable), Dortmund will try to overturn a 3-0 deficit at home to Spurs.

Yeah, unfortunately I think the major favorites will roll pretty easily. Stuck at home with a sick kid, so was hoping for slightly more intriguing matches.

Ajax just made it interesting. Real still in advancing position based on away goals, but they'll need to stop sitting back.

Vertonghen just saved the Spurs from likely allowing an early goal with a perfectly timed tackle. Wow.

This has been all Dortmund so far. Spurs can't expect to sit back and coast like this for 90 minutes. They'll need to actually play.

I think they're going to sit back until Dortmund gets one.

FAKE EDIT: They almost just did. Great save by Lloris off deflection.

I'll let you keep me posted!
Spurs essentially playing 5 along the back. Bus is definitely parked now. Reus is looking dangerous.

But with Kane and Son there's still danger going forward if they can break out.

EDIT: Spurs nearly break Kane free but just offside. He would've been in alone from like 40 yards.

EDIT: Dortmund break into box but I think he played the wrong pass...left it for trailer and shot never got through.

Aurier off briefly but back on. Trippier not with them, so let's hope he can stay on the field.

Son got free, but pulled his shot wide. Wow.

VAR may have brought it back if he had scored. Was close to offseide. Also pushed slightly. Damn.

EDIT: But that's the plan today--absorb and see if they can spring Son or Kane. Almost worked twice.

Rules official says he thinks he was onside and that the push wasn't enough for VAR....

Corner for Dortmund. Flicked across face of goal. Then Lloris and Davies with great saves.

Jesus, does Real suck this year? They're getting their ass handed to them
Real Madrid are a mystery, but it's important to note that the team was also perplexing last year -- they were eliminated by Leganes in the quarterfinals of La Copa and finished third in La Liga, only three points ahead of fourth-place Valencia...but won the Champions League.

Then, Zidane and Ronaldo leave, replaced by Lotepegui who only lasted a few months. Solari is rather inexperienced and is dealing with lots of young players and a few aging stars in Bale and Marcelo.

This is early season Dortmund, not the one that's played really bad the last few weeks.

Just get to halftime boys.

Announcer thinks the push on Son was a foul and a straight red. Rules official thinks no foul. lol

If it's a foul there it has to be a red though given that he's the last man - but yeah, I think the push would've been a foul anywhere else on the field, but close enough for the rules official to not call it a 'clear and obvious error'

True...he was last, so that's the call. As a Spurs fan I want it, but it's not one that has me upset for not being called.

To think that I was annoyed that I had to watch RM-Ajax instead of Dortmund-Spurs.

I'm not very smart about soccer sometimes.

Is it bad when the other team has 15 shots and your team only has 1? Asking for a friend.
