Mansfield MA
Player for player swaps in the NFL are rare. If Mason is moved it’s likely for a draft pick. But theoretically speaking I’d be open to situation where Mason could be moved for a LBer or more realistically if Mason is moved for picks that allows them to deal other picks for a LBer.
If LB is that much of a concern (I don't think Belichick thinks it is), they can trade picks for a LB. They have an extra 2 and might have two extra comp 3s. There's no need to trade Mason for like an extra 2 or 3 to make a deal happen.

As I write this and think it through it really seems less and less attractive. Just keep the OL depth. It usually pays off.
Yes. Cannon missed 12 games last year. Vollmer missed the whole season the year before. In 2015 Solder went on IR after four games and Stork missed half the year. You have to go back to 2014 to find a unit that was healthy nearly wire-to-wire, and they still needed Josh Kline to start playoff games. Solder was in theory the third tackle as a rookie; he wound up starting 13 games. If Wynn (or Thuney, or whoever) starts on the bench, he'll get action sooner or later.

I've been advocating a Mason-for-Earl Thomas trade. Both are impending FA's and would fetch a good comp pick if unsigned.
I don't see it. Thomas wants a new deal and they're unlikely to give him one. Also, while Thomas is a great player, I'm not sure putting him alongside McCourty and Harmon, both of whom like Thomas are best at single-high free safety, is a great use of assets.

Money wise, if they feel that either Will Tye or Jacob Hollister can replace Dwayne Allen then they could release Allen and save $5 million which would pretty much make up the difference in Mason's and Thomas' salaries.
They should do this anyway.

Yes you’re right about DMC but I think the presence of both him and ET would allow one to be more of a matchup nightmare depending on the opponent.

One injury to watch: #Patriots WR Jordan Matthews suffered a hamstring injury that is deemed to be significant, source said. This would explain the continued interest in FA WR Eric Decker.

around the way
Mason isn't moving down the depth chart; he's a very good guard. I think it makes a lot of sense to re-sign him (continuity is so important on the offensive line and as SN says because he's on the smaller size he might not be that expensive to re-sign), and I could certainly imagine them trading him for, say, a third round pick or better, but the one place he won't be is on NE's bench.
I don't understand this post.

I love Mason and don't expect him to get beat out. But if somehow he were bested at his position, I'm lost on why trading him is the appropriate response.

Isn't this the same person who told everyone Gronk was traded? Can we make Barstool/Thornton go the way of Dr. Chao in this forum and not post anything from them if Thornton is wrong again?

My point is there's a zero percent chance that he gets bested. If he's healthy he either starts in New England or gets traded and starts for someone else--there is no third option.

Thornton — the faniest of all Patriots fanboys (someone is always out to fuck us) — got one thing horribly wrong a few months ago and I believe it was Gronk related.

Cordarrelle seems to be making an impression

Of course, the first responses on twitter were along the lines of "well Jordan Richards is in midseason form"...

I mean, wasn't this just the NFL's way of trying to prove they were right? Good for Brady for standing up to those shitbags. I didn't think SB LI could be any sweeter.

This may well spiral but...
Also good for the Pats. I am sure they could have "urged Brady" that throwing two low level employees under the bus was needed and perfectly acceptable to them as an organization. Maybe that persuades Tom to take the deal.

Either they did this and Brady still demurred. Which I doubt.
Or they Said what ever you want Tom, and either tacitly or explicitly agreed with standing up to the NFL and not letting LLEmployees take the wrap for the NFL Assclowns.

Thats an organization that instills loyalty and hard work at all levels.

Even if those particular guys never came back to work for the Pats (which at this point I have lost track of what happened to them) there are those who will remember "Yea the NFL tried to Screw "us" over and Tom and Bill and Bob said F*ck that noise".

Yeah, not sure it's all that surprising even if true. Fact is, by the end, there were only two groups left: those who thought the NFL handling was a complete joke, and those who didn't pay enough attention to realize they should be in the first group.

OK, that's revisionist history. The Union wanted to fight, and they chose this over the other stuff that was going on at the time.

Brady doesn't destroy the phone, the NFL does something else, maybe Bellichick gets suspended for the year. So it worked out.

Patriots’ first-round pick Sony Michel underwent a procedure to drain his knee that will sideline him at least 10 days, per @MikeReiss.

Crisis averted.
Less than ideal for a guy with chronic knee issues to need fluid drained before he even makes it to preseason Game 1 though.

Perhaps not crisis level but reports of his arthritis being advanced are obviously not a good long term sign.

Had signed with Panthers for $24 for 3 with 11 guaranteed. Failed physical for non-football injury, cut foot.

At this stage, he’s probably looking at 1 yr to get back in line for a bigger payday. He can play.

Breeland leaving town without a contract doesn't speak well of his chances of ending up here.

.@ProFootballTalk: There may be nothing to this whatsoever, but I’ve detected a weird sense coming out of Denver...We’ve seen Elway do this where he’ll squeeze a guy very very late. If the young WR can develop...It would not shock me if @DemaryiusT ends up on the Patriots.
Is it wrong that my first reaction to this is the likelihood if the Pats acquire Thomas of him being cut in Camp or relegated to the 5th receiver by Week 4?

Don’t think I’d go that far but my first reaction was that I would rather have Sanders.

Apparently, Decker had been brought up in trade talks so maybe he didn't want to go anywhere else and just retired. Sounds like he wanted to go out on his own terms.

Decker’s name had come up in trade talks and he appeared to have an uphill battle to make the roster. #Patriots receiver churn continues.
