I've seen half a hole and this is already awesome. Tiger birdies 12 to go 1up, and then on the par 3 13th, Tiger bets him $300,000 on closest to the pin, Tiger hits it to 15 feet (213 yard hole) and Phil stuffs one inside of it at 9 feet or so.

These guys decided to split the $9mil weeks ago
I don't know man. These guys are competitive and each thinks they can beat the other. And they're rich as fuck. I'd actually be surprised if they agreed to this.

The problem with them conceding all of these putts is that one of them eventually needs to make a good shot.

Well, there's the two good shots. Only problem is they are both so good, they should both make birdie.

Anyone else have to pay an extra $6 to watch the end? My PPV cut out at 8. Had to buy the Jim Gaffigan special to see the last 2 putts
I’m sorry. The match was eventually free on Bleacher Report Live. I watched the last four holes. I’m not a regular golf watcher, but in my uninformed opinion this was a disaster. They got a dramatic ending, but the golf was bad. The broadcast infrastructure failed.

They might try this again, but yikes.

Things that would have made this better:

1. Venue: play it in Scottsdale, with all those drunk fans.

2. It has to be on CBS, or Golf Channel. Someone with the knowhow. As a soccer fan, I know how shit Bleacher Report is.

3. Have it be the top four in the world.

Basically, like the old Skins Games with the top four?

I'm a huge golf fan, and a huge Tiger fan, and this fell flat even for me. Frankly, I just don't think it works anymore because of the fortunes and celebrity status these guys already have. We know when we're watching that it doesn't really mean anything to them. You can see the difference between this and a Major Championship. Bottom line, there are more than enough great golf tournaments and intense moments during the golf season, no reason to force some other golf entertainment down our throats that could never live up to that stuff anyway.

Comcast is apparently issuing a refund on this due to the streaming failure and B/R just having it out there for free.

I watched on DVR last night.

- The broadcast was underwhelming. I had higher hopes. They hyped the drones, but barely used them. I think the only live drone shot was a Tiger putt on 15 or 16. They were used to show the hole, which is done on every other golf broadcast. Shane Bacon seemed useless, just repeating the challenges that we all heard the players say. Gulbis must’ve gotten lost or something after the pre-game because I don’t ever remember hearing from her again. Pat Perez was awesome, he’s got a future in this.

- They players mic’d up was OK. I enjoyed the player-caddie conversations the most. The Tiger/Phil conversations felt scripted (Sam Jackson! How cool!). Jacobsen and Clarke talked over them too much though, especially down the stretch when the players turned up the competitive juices.

- The actual golf kinda stunk, but we did get that Tiger chip-in, and the closest to the pin exchange on that long par 3. Those moments were cool. It seems like they set the course up for scoring, but it just didn’t happen. There’s not much you can do about that, the players just have to make shots and putts. Did Tiger or Phil make anything outside 10 feet? Pins seemed getable and in spots with backstops and side boards they could use to get it close. It wasn’t too long and the rough was barely rough. It didn’t feel like Tiger really gave a shit until the back 9. He wasn’t grinding over some shots he normally would, IMO.

- Turning the practice green and 18 green into a pitch and putt to finish it felt a bit hokey. Maybe the logistics for lighting up 18 were too much or impossible but that would’ve been better IMO.

So the only winner here was Mickelson. No money made on PPV. The golf and coverage was underwhelming. Much ado about very little for the hype.

We watched this. There needed to be way more side action. I was bummed they weren’t making prop bets on just about every shot. “I’ll bet you 50k I can get up and down from here.”

If this happens again, it needs to be with some players that will actually talk and enjoy themselves. This oddly felt as if each guy actually needed the 9m and was laser focused on winning it.

True. Fowler v. Bubba would be much better.
