A Scud Away from Hell
Started out sluggish but terrific adjustments at the half gets a much-needed win. It's Game Ball Time!

Mine goes to:
  • Mason: makes the run game very dangerous
  • Gordon: looked the most comfortable since joining NE
  • Flores: finally dialed some pass rushing packages and got McCown off his game
  • DL: shut down the Jets run game, only allowing 74 yards
Pretty much locking up the AFCE & coming back home vs the Vikes.

If this were a game ball thread, which it’s not, but if it were, I’d give one to Gronk. Nice touchdown over the middle. I know he was a little out of sync but first game back and he also had a decent block for the Edelman TD. Plus he pulled defenders.

Got to give game balls to the offensive line, Michel, Brady, and Flowers. Heck of a job on the ground today and Brady was upright so he could spread the ball out. Got to be even better next week against a legit Minnesota defense.

Need to do a better job in the red zone.

Not understanding the Brady love this week. Seemed really off on throws he had plenty of time on and forced several throws into coverage. If Gronk doesn't get his big mitt in the way Adams has an easy INT in the end zone.

I'd give the GBs to Michel/White/Gronk/Gordon and the interior OL. Most dominating rushing performance in several years.

He completed 65% of his passes with 2 TD/0 INT and a passer rating of 115.4. I'd say Brady had a really good day especially compared to past performances against the Jets in MetLife.

Post game Patterson explains why he did this:

“I’m a grown man. I don’t need no one’s ass and dick and balls in my face.”

This is the very definition of the bar set way tooooooooooo fucking high. I especially love the last part "if he doesn't throw a touchdown, it would have been intercepted." I don't even know what that means. He got lucky because he put the ball where he knows Gronk can catch it, like he's done for almost a decade now?

If anyone out there thinks Brady had a bad day, you need to reset your expectations. He threw one pass that was maybe a foot off target to Gronk on the first drive, and there was probably a dozen posts along the lines "Brady sucks, Brady doesn't have it, Brady is off today..." Then he went 4/4 for 80 yards and a touchdown on the next drive, and everyone shut their fucking stupid mouhts.

Maybe folks shold watch, you know, 95% of the other quarterbacks in the NFL that played today and the come back around and compare how Brady played.

I agree with your overall point but I'm pretty sure he's not talking about the Gronk TD, but the fade in the end zone where it was underthrown and Gronk knocked it away from Adams.

Brady had an above-average day by NFL standards, and was "fine" to "very good". He was not exceptional.

Michel, Gilmore and Gordon had superlative days, and Allen is a good point as well. They'd be my game balls. Not that it's a discussion-ender, but Michel had more fantasy points than Brady did, which given the slant towards QBs in that scoring system, is unusual, especially for any Patriot not named Gronk.

Extra wind sprints for Deatrich Wise and that incredibly stupid roughing-the-passer penalty that took away what would have been a defensive stop and extended a drive that wound up resulting in a TD.

Ok, mea culpa. The post doesn't sound as stupid then. Gronk made a good play on that one. I thought that one was actually overthrown, and Adams was in front of Gronk when Gronk reached out and batted it away.

Gilmore, Van Noy, Flowers. Honorable mention to Michel for maintaining full use of his legs.

Offense did what they were supposed to do against that shit team.

Yes that was the play I was referring to. Adams had great position on Gronk and was basically going to catch it until Gronk got his hand on it at the last second to bat it away, very similar to what Gillmore does quite often actually.

When I saw how they had bent Michel back like that, I could not believe he came back into the game. That would have snapped most of us in half - easily it would have broken my back and I'm still in pretty solid shape. These NFL guys are incredibly tough mofos.

Worth noting that apparently the Pats have had some illness running through the locker room this past week.

Kind of surprised only one mention of Chung. I thought he played great. He was all over the field. Ended up leading the team by a wide margin with 13 tackles, and was pretty solid in coverage, particularly on Herndon, who the Jets have been trying to get more involved as the season has gone on, and is a pretty good receiver and runner when he has the ball.

The nature of that kind of play is the QB has to throw it before the receiver is open and trust he's going to beat the DB to the spot. It's also a matchup where Brady knows Gronk has six inches on Adams and should be able to win a 50/50 ball. Maybe not great judgment to think Gronk was going to outrun Adams, but you make that throw knowing worst case is Gronk should be able to knock it away. It's different if you're throwing to Edelman working against Jalen Ramsey or something.

Brady had an above-average day by NFL standards, and was "fine" to "very good". He was not exceptional.
He averaged 9 yards per pass attempt, took no sacks, and didn't turn the ball over. The Patriots put up 27 points on 9 drives (officially 11 but two were end-of-half) despite having terrible starting field position most of the day (four of their nine drives started in their own 15). Sign me up for that.

Michel's best game as a pro. He owes some thanks to the offensive line for opening some big holes, but he ran as decisively as I think we've seen from him.

The encouraging thing is both Michel and Gordon looked confident and without hesitation, both mentally and physically.

For the first time all season, it feels like the cogs are finally in place.

Gordon had a great catch on ball that was deflected on line. He reached back behind him to catch it on a crossing route.

Yeah he was great too. There were a couple of plays that he made that really stood out. Wise also.

Frankly after Van Noy and Gilmore, there were a handful of guys on that defense who did well.

Loved Michel and some of the receiver play, but I think that anyone could have run for a hundred today. That Jets front was awful.

Chung is a guy I’ve been critical of lately and he played very well. Game ball to him.

This was the 3rd game this season that Gronk, Edelman and Michel all played together. And I'm not even sure how healthy each of them were in the other two, but we scored 38 on the Colts and 43 on Kansas City in those two games. The offense is about to start buzzing, right in time.

If we were giving a Pats fan game ball, the dude on the right, who was also wearing a Pats hat, would get it in a walk. Clever man.

They got whacked for some penalties, but the O-Line (as properly acknowledged by Michel in his post-game conference) mostly controlled things up front. Mason is a beast.

Michel, too. He has the vision and patience to exploit the open lanes, and showed that something “extra.”

And Gronk. Healthy, he’s really the Queen on the chessboard. He blocked well too (as usual).

The Jets suck, but a road divisional win is what it is - good.

During the Titans game it was reported that a few players had an illness as well. That probably explains the lacklustre performance from a lot of guys recently.
