Simmons has Nash on his podcast today and it's actually really good.

Listening to 710 espn today in LA, the lakers station, was incredibly enjoyable as Max kellerman and the bunch had to digest the stream of garbage filler moves one after another as they broke. And since it is the laker station, they had to structure their opinions in such a way as to not offend the organization. It was music to my ears.

but it did devolve into a great conspiracy theory, as the lakers suck for 2 years to wait for Durant, are they also trying to make kobe demand a trade?

Should have retired like 3 years ago. Of course, don't blame him for accepting free money.
Especially since he was arguably the most underpaid star of his era. Always a class act and even better he's cashing the Lakers checks in these final two years of his deal.

His legacy will be interesting. NBA Open Court did a episode on adding 10 players to the NBA 50 list from the 90s and Nash MVP's were dismissed quickly. Shaq sounds bitter...but he's right.

Allegedly blocking his wife from moving to CA so she can't cash in on the state's more kid-friendly child support laws.
I won't hammer you I'll only say to research such sensitive topics before posting stuff like this.

I'll add.......

* Nash pays $30k per month in child support in AZ as well as nearly all of the children's expenses including a $2k/mo nanny.

* The ex-wife received a multi-million dollar divorce settlement from Nash on top of the $30k plus expenses each month.

* Nash works (worked?) in LA but recently remodeled his Arizona home where he plans on living while helping raise his kids in AZ. Any responsible father would fight to keep his kids in the state they will be living.

* Nobody is more sensitive to single moms than I am but fuck that slimy money-grabbing piece of trash!

* Mediots who trashed Nash for clicks should rot in hell.

Didn't his ex cheat on him and have a child with another NBA player too?
She cheated on him w Jason Richardson and rumors are that the last child is Rochardson's. They split up the day after baby was born......I'm sure we can figure out the rest.

SocialChair, it's always interesting to watch those kind of discussions, especially with former greats...but man their lists and who they thought was "unanimous" was fucking terrible. It was obviously influenced by who was in the room (cough Webber and Miller cough)
Dwyane Wade is not unanimous but they all want to act like Reggie Miller is? Come on. Dwyane Wade is one of my least favorite basketball players ever but I think you have to be certifiably insane to not think that he is not one of the Top 60 players to ever play the game.
It was also interesting how highly they all valued Payton. I think most would say that out of Kidd, Nash, and GP GP is the worst but they all seemed to think it was definitely Nash.

Really interesting clip and it seems pretty obvious why none of them actually gets to run their own team

This bums me out--I was hoping to get to see Nash play again. I didn't expect that he'd be good, but I was hoping he'd have the chance to go out on his own terms--having a little fun again on the court.

You can make an argument that there were players who were as deserving of MVPs when Nash won them. I don't think you can really make an argument that there were players more deserving.

Don't short Reggie. He was a great player. People just remember old Reggie. The young version (early nineties) was an obscenely good multi threat scorer in the post-Riley pre-handcheck rules era.

Reggie and Webber don't make the final 10. They end up picking Duncan, Kobe, Lebron, KG, AI, Dirk, Dominque, Mcado, Wade, and Durant.

I'd include all these players over AI, Dominique, and McAdoo:

Reggie Miller
Chris Paul
Gary Payton
Jason Kidd
Ray Allen
Paul Pierce
Ginobili

Maybe Nash

I think Kidd and Ray Allen on there definitely. Take out Dominique and McAdoo.
I think AI was also very overrated during his career (very one dimensional, had to have a team tailor fit to his game IE a big point guard who can handle the ball and defend Shooting Guards and some other things. So basically I think the reason he didn't win a title was because of the team you had to put around him) But I am not sure who is a definite to put in above him.
I guess I will go with Nash as that 3rd person over AI. He also had serious defensive limitations but he was also an incredible shooter, great passer, and was the engine that ran one of the most unique offenses and sort of brought it back en vogue. The 2 MVPs certainly help. (If CP3 continues doing what he is doing and wins a Championship this year I think he is the slam dunk 3rd guy)

Phoenix might have something to say about that.  For the right to pay Steve Nash $10 million this year, the Lakers sent over their 2015 No. 1 (top 5 protected) in the sign and trade.  I'm a little concerned that they will bottom out into keeping the pick this year.

So long as Bryant is healthy Phoenix will be cackling with joy. I think the Suns front office let out a cheer with the Randle injury as it was a practical guarantee of a mid lottery pick. (EDIT: To clarify because Randle/Nash went from a trade package for a pretty good player to something a whole lot less than that. Though I guess they could still probably make a deal with the Seventytankers for Michael Carter-Williams.)

I think the Lakers are (and were, prior to the Randle injury) a bottom 5 team. There's a very, very good chance they'll end up keeping their pick and I think they'll realize how bad they are quick enough that they won't make a panic trade. They're a really, really bad team without a single average defender on the roster. Their coach doesn't want them to take 3 pointers, and their offense is going to run through a 38 year old. That's a recipe for a bottom 5 team, and once they see that clearly they'll be smart enough to just play it out and hope they keep their pick.

Kobe is the coach. Byron is just there to do interviews.

Along these lines, people are starting to theorize that the Lakers are secretly tanking.

The level of quit this early in the season is really astounding. And Kobe's instinct to do it all himself and go renegade is actually contributing to it by alienating the team even further. I dont know what's the next lowest level for them. I guess kobe asking for a trade would be it but i just cant see it

As I noted in the other thread, they are on pace to mutilate records for worst defense ever. Currently more than a 3 pt lead over the worst team DRtg of all time.
Kobe is an integral part of the stealth tank they are pulling to keep that draft pick, he's impressively murdering them with his inefficient ball dominating offense and terrible terrible defense. It seems unlikely they can afford to trade him, it would probably be good for a 3-5 win increase that could cost them a 1st.

Jim Barnett, former Celtic player and current Warriors color commentator made an interesting observation last night and it seemed to be confirmed by watching (Blacken's favorite, The Eye Test) Kobe play. Barnett essentially said that defense was the first skill to deteriorate for an older player. Kobe's offensive game, while not very efficient, is still pretty potent. However he looks absolutely awful on defense and even though it isnt a shock given his age, its a bit sad given that he was once a very good defender.

I'm not an expert in X's and O's by any stretch, but I've watched about half of the total minutes of Laker basketball this season and I don't think you could miss it, Kobe is a swinging door on defense to such a degree that there are swinging doors who might resent that comparison.

@Bballinsider: According to Lakers Head Coach, Byron Scott, Kobe Bryant was excused from practice today because he was "angry with himself."

Well, shooting 30% from the floor will do that.
