Yes it does at the moment. So, that takes the Pats out of the fourth round completely, right?

If that were the actual deal, it would be the steal of the century. Allen and a 6th for a 4th.Trade is Allen and a 4th for a 6th.
So, if they get another fourth rounder, they get their own pick back?Yes it does at the moment.
Yes it does at the moment.
The way the Pats draft, he difference between the Colts 6th and Pats 4th (last in the round) is likely small. Not bad. Thought it would be a later pick.
Isn't it Allen and a 6th for a 4th?Trade is Allen and a 4th for a 6th.

Patriots traded a fourth-round pick to Colts for TE Dwayne Allen and a sixth-round pick, per league sources.
Thank you.If that were the actual deal, it would be the steal of the century. Allen and a 6th for a 4th.
I'm hearing that it's the Pats who are sending a 4th to the Colts for Allen and a 6th.EEI is reporting the Colts are sending the Patriots Allen and a 6th, getting back a 4th from the Patriots............
In terms of relative pick value, that's essentially Allen for a mid 6th round pick. That's a great trade for the Pats.I'm hearing that it's the Pats who are sending a 4th to the Colts for Allen and a 6th.
Seconded.I think the pigpile on Red's temporary lysdexia is over
Agreed. My sense is the Patriots like to cover their bases in free agency so that they go into the draft without having pressing needs. This best allows them to draft who falls to them regardless of position.I dont think it takes the Pats completely out of the draft market for TE's. Would be a little surprised if they use a 1st round pick there, but Matt Lengel's status isnt going to keep them from adding a developmental guy they like.
IIRC, that tender isn't guaranteed (they tendered and rescinded on Brian Hoyer a few years ago). So they still have flexibility to draft a guy if they like one.Hard not to like this move. They have cap space, and he only costs $5m this year. He has good skills, so if he's the second tight end, he plays a good complimentary role to Gronk. He's a vet, so if you need him to move up to be your TE1 you have some confidence he can contribute. If you want to move on next year, there is no cap consequence to doing so. If he succeeds, you have him under control for decent money.
And the pick they'll get back for Bennett is likely to be higher than the pick it sounds like they are giving the Colts. Hard to find a piece of the puzzle that fits better.
They tendered Lengel, so that's another $1.4m or so already committed to the tight end position, I think. My guess is they are done with TE.
Dave DeGuglielmo called Brady a ninja in Do Your Job. Belichick is Warren Buffett or Bill Gates or Steve Jobs? This is a great move. I have no idea how nobody wanted to beat that offer, but I said the same of Bennett last year. Belichick is a ninja.
I haven't laughed out loud at a username in a long time. Thanks.I really wanted Doyle, was hoping the Colts would let him test FA. He (and Bennett) are both better than Allen IMHO, but I'm good with the deal, at least for the first 2 years.
And in case you forgot... what is that random non compensatory pick by the NY Giants at 140? That is their punishment for walkie talk gate. Didn't lose their fourth pick, didn't even get forced to pick dead last, just moved down a bunch of slots...So we can trade with any of these teams for these picks
25 (131). Forfeited pick
26 (132). Kansas City Chiefs
27 (133). Dallas Cowboys
28 (134). Green Bay Packers
29 (135). Pittsburgh Steelers
30 (136). Atlanta Falcons
31 (137). Just traded to Colts
32 (138). Cincinnati Bengals (Compensatory Selection)
33 (139). Philadelphia Eagles from Cleveland Browns (Compensatory Selection)
34 (140). New York Giants
35 (141). Los Angeles Rams (Compensatory Selection)
36 (142). Cleveland Browns (Compensatory Selection)
37 (143). San Francisco 49ers (Compensatory Selection)
38 (144). Indianapolis Colts (Compensatory Selection)
Any other trade nets us Seattle's pick back and the loss of the newly acquired 4th round pick.
Alan Branch and Chris LongSo bye bye to Marty, one of the "no White House Six", along with Jake Long (already gone), LGBT (probably gone) and Allan Branch and Hightower (? on both), leaving just McCourty.
Coincidence?
Probably.
I knew that, just wanted to see your user name again.Alan Branch and Chris Long
Allen travels with a fast crowd
Was that implied or inferred?I love the implied, "'cause you'd never have gotten one here."
Completely agree re. Marty -- he was fun to root for for a lot of reasons. This interview pretty much summed up why:Love this deal.
I'll always have great memories of Marty though. He and Chris Long both go into the short term Patriot Hall of Fame for me, along with Bryan Cox, Ted Washington, Brandon Browner, etc.
All us fans loved Marty's banter, but I wondered if BB was cringing over some of it. Thanks for the Martellories.Completely agree re. Marty -- he was fun to root for for a lot of reasons. This interview pretty much summed up why:

Agree - Mahh-tee will be missed. A fun athlete to follow. I like your concept of the "short term" Patriot HOF. Allow me to nominate: Revis, Brian Waters, Mark Anderson, and Albert Haynesworth (kidding..)Love this deal.
