Maybe our difference here is on who we feel Ainge will draft. I don't expect it to be a guard with so much frontcourt talent available.
If the Cs get the #1 pick, I would be shocked if they didn't draft Fultz. Who's the last guy who could score at all three levels as a freshman?

Maybe this should be in the draft thread.

We might trade the pick, but there's zero chance Danny will keep the pick and not draft the BAP.

HRB has a point, in that it's more likely than not that the BKN pick will be #3 or #4, and the guys who are currently projected to go in those spots (Jackson and Tatum) are at least capable of playing forward. I don't think the #1 overall pick has been traded after the lottery since the Webber-Hardaway deal 24 years ago, except for the Wiggins-Love deal, so I assume we'll keep the pick and draft Fultz if the ping-pong balls bounce our way, but I guess it's not crazy to say we should trade the pick; it is crazy to say we should keep the pick and draft based on positional need.

With the four leading candidates now done with college ball, we know as much about them now as scouting and statistics can tell us. Who should Boston choose if the Celtics get pick 1, 2, 3 or 4? I'm thinking

1 Fultz
2 Trade down or out to another team that wants Ball or Jackson
3 Trade down or out to another team that wants Jackson or Ball
4 Tatum

Gotta see who's ahead of them if they don't get #1. If it's the Lakers I can easily see LA picking Ball and Fultz still there.

I think the C's should keep the pick unless someone like Westbrook becomes available unexpectedly. The conventional wisdom of Fultz/Ball/Jackson/Tatum seems right to me, though I didn't get to see much of Fultz so I'm taking the scouting community's rave reviews at face value.

This likely means trading one of IT/AB/Smart this summer if the C's land the 1st or 2nd pick. (Honestly, this should probably happen even if the C's draft a frontcourt player or trade the pick.) AB seems like the right one to trade -- more value than Smart, not as important to the team's long-term prospects as IT.

Who would be potential trade targets if we did move the pick? Still just Butler and George? What about smaller targets? I'm not sure about salaries and all that, but would Brook Lopez make sense over Kelly Olynyk? Do we have the contracts to match? Does it depend on if we sign Hayward? Could we do both? Would we want to? If it only cost the equivalent of the Celtics 2018 first round pick? Tyson Chandler? Lopez is a FA after next season while Chandler would still have a year left and he's also 35. Of the teams rebuilding, not many of them have a guy you'd move the pick for. Not many have a guy you'd want to move the Celtics 2018 pick for. Of course by the time the 2017 draft comes around, someone could be made available that we hadn't thought of before.

And just for conversation sake, would everyone be on board with Russell Westbrook if he was made available and at what price? How does he fit with the current group?

Yabusele and Zizic will be in Maine at the least too so with the Nets pick and JB, they'll potentially be a really young team barring a trade.

Fultz is the only guard near the top of the draft who I feel we could draft. I'd be beyond shocked if we drafted Ball or Fox. If we connect on the 25% to grab the top pick we could draft Fultz but there is still a decent chance the pick is moved.

Pick #:

1. Fultz or blockbuster trade
2. Whoever falls from Fultz/Jackson or blockbuster trade
3. Whoever falls from Fultz/Jackson/Ball or blockbuster trade
4. Whoever falls from Fultz/Ball/Jackson/Tatum or trade

My preference is take Fultz or trade the pick. My ideal (non-star trade) scenario is to get #1, with PHX #2 and LAL #3 and then trade the 1st pick to LAL for #3 and Julius Randle. LAL takes Ball and BOS is guaranteed Fultz or Jackson, plus fill their PF hole for the next year while leaving sufficient cap space to sign a premium FA (Hayward, for instance).

Ball's dad wants his son to go to the Lakers but is there anything about the Lakers wanting Ball over Fultz? Why would they trade up to take him over Fultz?

More and more the only guy that I deal Fultz for is RWB. Aside from that they should just make the pick and roll. I would consider trading 2-4, but I'm not sure the right deal is going to be out there for Boston yet.
