Wow Trumbo... that was a painfully bad defensive play. Climbed the wall to try to rob a home run and the ball appeared to hit the bottom of the wall 10 feet away.

California. Duh.
To be fair to him, off the bat that ball looked and sounded like it was easily gone. The wind knocked it down big time, and probably blew it a bit to the side.

Are you guys watching on MLB Network?  Which feed are they showing?  I'm watching the LA broadcast on mlb.tv so I can listen to Vin Scully.
Just woke up, its their own, Vasgersian and Smoltz.

Yeah -- Smoltz and Vasgersian are actually out here in our time zones, on the ground. They are loving it.

It's been a good game and the crowd loves every little thing that is happening. Wish I were there.

LOL on Kershaw's baserunning after his nice hit.....

So these games started about 1 am on the west coast? Is this the best timing they could come up with? All the other time slots given up to cricket and soccer? I guess mlbn will have highlights all day long....

Pretty sure that was prime time there, good news is they're already replaying it and game 2 is a day game so it starts at 10 tonight.

Wow, how odd that Trout misjudged that so much! Was that what threw off Vasgergian or is he just blind?

Surely Trumbo's antics threw off Vasgergian, but as they continued to hammer after the play, the wind really knocked the ball down.  Trumbo (and I hate to defend his defense) did the right thing off the crack of the bat and went head down to the fence to get in position to possibly bring it back in from over the fence.  Then the wind did its thing and made everyone look dumb...Trumbo, Vasgergian, even Van Slyke who was high-fiving the 1B coach on the way by because he thought it was gone.

Awesome crowd. With Little League starting to explode down there, this was the perfect time to play these games and it really could pay dividends in in the next generation.
Sorry, but you're not allowed to like any of Seligs ideas. Please edit post and try again.

Oh crap, I thought it was the other way around. I thought Game 1 was tonight and Game 2 was at 4 am tomorrow. Oh well, I'll catch the second one tonight.

Every Korean in Australia is here today to see Ryu.
Dodger Stadium sets up an auxiliary press box for Korean media during every Ryu start. He is the local Korean population's version of Fernando.

Ramirez & Gordon owe Ryu a case of Hite after that defensive butchery in the 4th inning.

Defense has not been at a premium today, that's for sure.
Do you have local announcers calling the game for the those that are watching from home?

Baseballs audience is old, and getting older. Average age of viewers from the WS was 54. It's an issue. The league needs to do a better job promoting the game and bringing young viewers back. You know what isn't a good solution to that problem? Opening the regular season on a Friday night at 4am. Can you imagine the NFL starting the regular season with Broncos vs Patriots at the crack of dawn?

And then you have the lunacy of these two teams now having to play exhibition games after they've already played two regular season games.

The Dodgers won 7-5 on Sunday, having won 3-1 the previous evening, but the result was irrelevant in comparison to the unexpected success of the event.

According to NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation Gabrielle Upton, the arrival of ''the Big Show'' was the ''biggest'' thing to happen to Sydney since Nikki Webster magically glided through the air at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

''These matches have created the biggest sporting buzz in Sydney since we hosted the Olympics 14 years ago,'' Upton said. ''Having just witnessed the LA Dodgers defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 [on Saturday night], I can safely say bringing the Major League Baseball to Sydney has been an extremely good investment.

''There have been many major sporting events in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics, including the 2003 Rugby World Cup, FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Australian Open of Surfing. But personally I think it is hard to beat the MLB in terms of a world-class entertainment experience, global television audience and positive international exposure for Sydney, particularly in the US market.''

But they have to play a couple exhibition games this week, so fuck that shit.

"Just having fun out there" Puig apparently fakes injuries after he swings and misses and refused to return to the field after striking out in the 9th.

Yasiel Puig struck out in the ninth inning of Sunday's 7-5 win and then did not return to right field in the bottom half of the inning. Before the game, Mattingly told reporters that Puig "grabs something every time he takes a swing and misses."

Asked what injury caused Puig to leave Sunday's game, Mattingly said, "I guess his back." He then seemed to react sarcastically when asked about the severity of the injury.

"Shoulder yesterday, back today, so I'm not sure if they're going to get him tests or get him to the MRI Monday or a bone scan on Tuesday, maybe," Mattingly said. "I'm not quite sure what we'll do. We may not do anything. I'm not sure."

Had a blast at the game yesterday. Only downer was I had to look at this sitting in front of me all day.

They were pretty lucky with the weather as it's been pissing down rain across Sydney and particularly around the stadium for a couple of hours (starting right around the same time as first pitch yesterday) with a bunch of local flooding going on. Not sure the field would have held up too well.

This column about the games is hilarious. I think 'piss-fast hot-rocks' needs to become a term we use in the States.

And this best sums up Mark Trumbo to me.

Some time early in the game – top of the second? Bottom of the fourth? It matters not – a Dodgers batter smashes the very bejeezus out of one. The ball soars into the clear black night while the man in the outfield goes back-back-back, all the way to the fence, which he climbs, as people the other side of it drop their beers and prepare to catch the ball, excited like Santa’s bringing them a present. As the ball crashes into the bottom of the fence our outfielder is stranded on top, glove out, like Spiderman stuck up a tree.

Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed, especially this part..........

Down we go to a spot directly behind the umpire/catcher, and several rows of people who’ve paid $850 for a seat – they should not be trusted with money. It's a world-class event and very interesting, but you wouldn’t pay $850. You can fly to Thailand for $850. I once bought a car for $850. It was a crap car, granted. But you wouldn’t pay $850 for a seat here with money you found on the body of a long-dead pimp.

So there doesn't seem to be much of a role for stubhub.com.au just yet.
