The Lead Sports article, along with a mention in the MMQB article from Klemko, attempts to make the case that Kraft's involvement in Brady's TB12 sports training center amounts to a salary cap violation. The Patriots apparently refer players to TB12 regularly, and Brady invoices the team for services.
The NFL and NFLPA have stated that this is not a violation under the current CBA rules, although the issue could be visited at a later time.

I'm no expert, but I suppose that one could make the argument that this violates the spirit of the CBA. Thoughts?

That The Lead website is horrible and just gave me tooth decay. I'm glad they took time out of their busy day writing "the 15 worst NFL haircuts of all time" to launch an investigation.

I remember the NFL saying there was no salary cap issue regarding Brady's training facility, but of course as we now Goodell bends whichever way the outrage flows, so I suppose he'll change his mind later. Brady's hardly working for $500K, either.

Didn't we already have this ridiculous conversation? TB was taking team friendly deals long before he sold magic avocados.

Sorry that was harsh.

But still, fuck off with this shit.
I preferred your unedited version, as I didn't find it directed at the OP, but rather the author.

The amount of this bullshit we have coming is going to be so, so fucking annoying.

(This probably should have just gone in the Nations Tears thread, tho, so we can consolidate all the butt hurt.)

This was out there last week somewhere.

EDIT: yeah, the second link, the MMQB article.

Yawn.

The NFL says that the Patriots aren’t violating the salary cap, and the NFLPA concurs. Until their tune changes and that change is put into writing by Park Avenue lawyers charging $1,200 an hour, it can’t be said that they’ve broken the rules. As for whether the arrangement between Brady and Kraft violates the spirit of the salary cap and should in fact be against the rules, you can decide for yourself:

If it was just the Lead article, I probably wouldn't have posted it, but Klemko and the MMQB are a mainstream football site and made the same argument.

But if mods want to move or dump this, no argument here.

Klemko was already harping on this in one of his pieces. This is the new topic du jour for the crowd looking for any scandal angle.

And I'll just put down the John Elway marker here for actual circumventing of the salary cap.

If he's actually providing services, it's hard to imagine the problem.

If the league and the players want to agree to a rule that a team may not refer to an organization associated with a player, I feel fairly confident they have word processors that they will be able to use to type those words into a document.

Why is this a thing?

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
Have any of these wags ventured any sort of estimate on how much goes into Brady's pocket annually? You would think that would be kind of relevant.

And I'm completely serious when I say that I expect to see Friendly's or other local outlet offering official TB12 avocado ice cream in the near future: the worst tasting stuff your kids will ever beg you to eat.

Your brain didn't go into gear when typing those sentences one after the other?

He posted the thread ... why gives any evidence that he thought about any aspect of it?

In hindsight, no. I originally had some more points on the leaps that the Lead article made to make the whole scenario more sinister sounding than it appears to be, but this really wasn't worth a separate thread. Bad posting on my part.
