Best OL/DL NE has faced, will not be easy. D can't take a half to figure out the PHI offense which is very complex.
I fully expect this to be a very close game at the half and like every Patriot SB come down to the last few min in the fourth. Who makes the ridiculous plays will determine the winner. There will be no blow out.

I joined this board during the week leading up to SB 39 and there was this insufferable blowhard Eagles fan yammering away all week. I wonder if he’s still around.

My Eagles fan friend just texted me that if the refs didn’t blow the whistle on the Lewis fumble, the SB would be different.
Can’t wait to watch the Pats beat the Eagles.
Text him back that he doesn't know the rules and to go to footballzebras.com

Does the line take into consideration Brady's bionic thumb that lets him throw deep better than ever?

If the defense can come up with a couple turnovers then I think it could be a blowout in the Patriots' favor...but this definitely has the feel of a slugfest where they let Foles drive the field on short passes and it drives everyone here insane.

PHI is the best defense they have played all season by a fair margin. Neutral field against an offense comparable to JAX, I have a hard time seeing a blow out. Not to mention NE has never blown out a SB.
Scar has his hands full next two weeks. Fletcher Cox is a rich mans Justin Tucker who has given NE fits in SB losses.

PHI generates a bunch of turnovers, but are they really better than Jacksonville?

Edit - talking about the defense.

I dunno if Cox has the leg to match Tucker.

Philly is a tough matchup. Multiple backs that can run over you or around you. Foles showed he can really play. WRs are a bit different as Philly showed a more vertical threat with Jeffrey and Smith. TEs are good. Defensively, they’re similar up front. They can do everything well. LBs aren’t as good. CBs are pretty good but Mills can be beat with double moves. They love to play physical and are playing with a chip on their collective shoulders.

This may be a game where you see the old Ravens game plan pulled out. Put a safety 20 yards back and make Foles beat us underneath.

This is also a game I’m fucking glad we have Stephon Gilmore for. Just stick him out there on Jeffrey. Butler on Agholor and Rowe on Torrey Smith. Chung on Ertz.

Jacksonville is better than Philly defensively by nearly every defensive metric. The Chargers are also similar. Not to take away from Philly's defense, which is obviously good, just disputing the "best defense they have played all season by a fair margin"

Justin Tucker is a Kicker. Think you mean Justin Tuck

I was rooting for the Eagles to be the opponent. Historic franchise, loyal (if insane knucklehead) fan base, great story. And at least a few really likable players: Long, Blount, Jenkins, Foles, Kendricks...

I dunno about best defense by a fair margin. JAX was #1 against the pass this season and was actually top total defense in DVOA (though slightly lower than PHI when weighted). Philly might have been slightly better overall due to them being far superior against the rush...but JAX was going to be the hardest team to throw the ball against this playoffs. We know the Patriots aren't afraid to throw it 55-60 times.

That said, I do agree I would favor more of a slugfest. I just said that if the defense gets a couple turnovers then I could see the game being a lot more comfortable. Today's offensive explosion was definitely not the norm since Foles took over.

Are the Pats going to finally score in the 1st Quarter of a Super Bowl?

It's been crazy how low scoring the 1st Quarters have been in the past seven. Rams scored 3 and the Giants scored 12 (over 2 games). 15 total points in the past seven 1st Quarters.

The few Steele’s fans I know actually texted me and basically said ‘congrats, nice win, rooting for you guys but only because of James Harrison’. SSS tho.

The hometown Viking fans are now likely in our favor though.

One of the story lines on Vikings radio this past week was awful Philly fans and cautioning Vikes fans traveling to Philly to look out. I expect the airwaves to be flooded with “Philly fans were obnoxious!” stories over the next few days from people coming back from the game.

That and the inevitable taunting shit that visiting Philly fans will be engaging in and...yeah.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a date with the New England Patriots in two weeks at Super Bowl LII and offensive lineman Lane Johnson is looking forward to the challenge.

“Pretty boy Tom Brady. Greatest quarterback of all-time. I’d like nothing more than to dethrone that guy,” Johnson told ESPN’s Tim McManus following his team’s 38-7 throttling of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

This will be quite a feat for Long if he pulls off back-to-back rings at this stage of his career.

Yes, game changer for Jax on that whistle. Too bad they didn’t have a 2 score lead in the 4th quarter or maybe they’d have had a shot.

What are the odds BB brings out the Super Bowl 39 parade speech for the pregame to this team on Super Bowl Sunday morning?

OK, I get most of you were in 7th grade, but get this, like 15 years ago they planned a parade! Can you believe the disrespect? I told Tedi Bruschi about it first...

Coach? Who's that?

Usually I have to find some kind of rambling justification for rooting for not my team in the superbowl. Not this year. Rooting for the Eagles is like rooting for ISIS.
