Astros/Phillies 1980 NLCS gets my vote for best 5 game playoff series ever, unless there's something I'm forgetting. Admittedly I was 13 years old at the time and quite impressionable, but check out the line scores in those last two games, game 5 especially:

Yeah, I know Pedro in Game 5 and 23-7 in Game 4 made it better, but Pedro left injured in Game 1 and Saberhagen was awful throughout that series. Any playoff series for the Red Sox that prominently featured Bret Saberhagen starting games is automatically disqualified as the best anything ever.
