Paul Lukas is reporting that the Red Sox will be wearing this hat for a game this year:

And presumably the uniforms that goes with it on May 5 as part of a Turn Back the Clock day when Carlton Fisk bubblehead dolls will also be given out. But you can read that on the above image.

So enjoy the nostalgia.

Do they even make double-knit UNIs anymore?

As mentioned, Panda may be taking that day off.

I strongly believe the (my) observed tendency toward more athletic players in the 70s was completely due to double knits ( Of course , maybe they were exactly the same but looked more athletic with the form fitting uniforms. Can't really imagine Mickey Lolich in one)

There better be striped stirrups.

Agree, these were the best socks. I also still prefer the blue undershirts to red. The belts tho.

Yes.  Blue undershirts forever.

I always felt they shifted to a bigger emphasis on red (dugout jackets, undershirts, etc.) as a way of differentiating themselves from MFY.  I think the overall look suffered as a result.

Isn't the photo of Fisk actually the '76 uni? I think '76 was the only year they had that patch on the left arm.

I appreciate the Boog Powell photo. I've heard Boog in those Indians uniforms described as 275 pounds of chewed bubblegum.

I'm in the blue undershirt club.

Even if you want to keep the red ones at home, the blue is perfect for the road unis now that they've gone back to the red letters and numbers.

I need an authentic Pedro road jersey badly. Impossible to find for some reason. I have an Expos, Mets, Phillies but can't find a Boston one. I do have the home 45 though.

Also count me in as part of the blue under shirt for road and red undershirt for home games group.

You made me go find my red 70s Sox hat. It's still there in the closet.  I don't know about bubblehead dolls, but bobbleheads are valuable. If you go to that game, get all you can, and sell the extras on ebay. We got $49 for an A's Cespedes bobblehead and $39 and $44 each for a couple of Coco Crisp garden gnomes last year. Easy to sell, easy to package, if you do ebay, of course.

I'm in the red undershirt loving minority also.

I also really, really liked the red hats. It would be great if the Sox made the red hats their permanent road hats.

I like the red sleeves, but would not mind seeing them don the blue sleeves and the striped socks for throwback days.  Just please no return to the blue socks.

That red crown blue brim hat is still my favorite, and definitely should be our standard road cap.   I think 2004 washed the taint from it.

Can't stand the pullover, no-button, v-neck jersey, and the elastic pants.  Good riddance, forever.

Couldn't agree more; those beer league softball uniforms were God awful.

And thank Christ they shitcanned that two tone hat too; they should have added a propeller to complete the look, that hat sucked.

All that look does is remind me of painful memories; the 1975 nut punch World Series loss to the Reds and the 1978 meltdown and playoff game loss to the fucking Yankees.

You want a weird looking hat, check this out. It wasn't used very much.

The patch on the sleeve of Fisk's uniform is the recognition of the Massachusetts bi-centennial that was celebrated in 1975.  There was a ceremony before this game that year.

For a long time I was confused about why the Bicentennial was celebrated twice, in 75 and 76.

I'm still confused by those double knits.

Never been a fan of any cap with the front two panels a different color. Caps should be solid but the brim can be a different color. Those are the only two acceptable options. The exception to this rule is sometimes the little button at the top can be a different color (even if the cap and brim are the same color).

Me either.

Solid caps are the way to go.

The three most iconic caps are the Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers solid versions.

The caps with the two front panels a different color for the most part look awful; think old school Brewers, Jays and  Orioles versions among others.

We all know the purpose of the multiple version caps is to drive sales, just like the alternate uniform tops like the ones the Red Sox wear; white, red, grey, blue, nothing wrong with any of that, it's all about marketing.

I'd put the Tigers' home cap over the Dodgers'.  The gothic D is classic.

I'm not a big fan of these throwbacks, but I was born in '81 - there's no nostalgia there for me.

Panda and Papi might have trouble with the stretch belt

Yes, I know that's not 1975 ... but it's the same belt as in the Carbo pic

Too bad they're not doing this on June 23, which will be the 40th anniversary of the day Pudge came off the DL, returning from his spring training elbow injury.

The front office could even double our pleasure by inviting Tim McCarver back, then having security grab him by the scruff of the neck, drag him off the field, and throw him out of the ball park -- since it'll also be the 40th anniversary of the Sox releasing him.

I was at the game on June 26 when he hit his first home run in a calendar year off the Yankees' Pat Dobson.  Fisk  had been hurt in mid-1974 in a brutal collision at home plate, missed the rest of the year, then broke his elbow in spring training.

When he hit the HR he danced around the bases like a school boy, just as much or more as he did when he ended Game 6.  Lots of great turning points in 1975, but the return of Fisk, their best player and leader, was the best and most important IMO.

It was a toss up for me between the Tigers cap and the Dodgers cap, but come to think of it, you're right, the Tigers hat is better.

Many great memories of that season, uniforms aside.  This year's longest road trip (10 games) is in May.  The odyssey that was August 1975's 15 game extravaganza where they finished 9-6 was a huge lift.  It was the same pace they had set through 110 games, but it was great to have seen them keep it up through five different cities, including a split on the west coast.

Wearing one of those red hats in the lower deck of Yankee stadium in the 70s was just offering up a bullseye to some beer tossing chucklehead in the upper deck.

Pretty much the way the late Jim Woods called it.

I used to have that card!

I remember thinking that the hat looked fake, and the stadium wasn't Fenway - so maybe it was an altered picture from '74, with the B over the StL cap, the cap color changed to blue, and the red/blue/red neck stripe over the blue/red/white Cardinals neck stripe...

Now that you mention it, the backdrop looks like RFK Stadium:
