Brady could have shown up and taken a steaming dump in the Rose Garden as a "statement" and I really wouldn't give a fuck.  Mixing sports and politics inevitably ends up sucking the fun out of sports.

Brady has said more than once that while a political career was something he had on his mind when he was younger, he's pretty sure he doesn't want anything to do with that now. Do people honestly believe he is that staunch a republican he couldn't stand to be honored by Obama? This is fucking ridiculous.
I also don't see this as probable but if Brady wanted to survive an R primary -- even in Califonia -- being absent from the presidential honors won't hurt.

The issue was that Tim Thomas handled it so poorly. He didn't show up, then made those Facebook posts, and when asked about it got defensive and went into silent mode with the media. If he just didn't show and stayed quiet I think a lot of people would have viewed him differently. Or even if he did what he did but then answered questions and clearly said what he thought, a lot of people would have disagreed with him but maybe understood him better.

I agree with Ralph upthread saying mixing sports and politics can take the fun out of it. If it was for political reasons, I'm glad he just said "family commitment" and hasn't brought it up again. Let the crazies speculate. It's the old Michael Jordan rule of politics and sports. "Democrats buy Uggs too"

Brady running for Senate in MA as an R in 2020 or so would be fascinating, especially if that's when Joe Kennedy III makes his move.

I'm going to say, that since I'm not in NE and don't hear Boston sports radio, this news was pretty much nothing nationally.

Now, I'm not saying that I couldn't hunt down a story or two, but other than that, it may have been mentioned, but I didn't notice it blowing up.

IF Brady skipped as a "statement", I would put far more stock in the statements of the WH Press Secretary being the possible cause than any general political Red/Blue thing.  Or its possible he to give his teammates some time in the limelight.  Who the fuck knows.

If the reports are true that he spent part of the day at Gillette working out, as a Pats fan, a Democrat, and an Obama fan boy, I far prefer that to Brady going to the White House. The guy is 37 and extremely meticulous about his schedule and preparation for football. If he thought skipping a planned workout for a flight to DC and back would hinder his preparation for the quest for #5, I support that.

They did a First Take segment on it where Screamin' all but called Brady a racist, but there wasn't much outside of that.

The 'Tom's Legacy Is Officially Tarnished' columns are already everywhere. Not even worth linking them.

I wonder if he'll hire a high priced damage control PR like guy like Howard Bragman to get through this.

If he wants to run for office, getting smeared as a cheater can't help. I bet he and his dad hire a PR firm and launch something.

I also suspect this could drive a big wedge between the Pats and Kraft and Brady. If I were his Dad I would right now be royally pissed at Kraft.

Why is that?  Kraft stuck up for the whole team Super Bowl week and today said "well, we have no recourse, but I still think this report is bullshit".

Why is Kraft to blame? This whole thing is a sham on the part of the NFL for letting this go beyond "send a memo" (which they do in every other case).

Let's keep the ballghazi bullshit in the other thread. This thread is for celebrating the career and achievements of the greatest QB of all time.

Kraft already attacked the Wells report.  At this point in time, there is nothing more that Kraft can do until, at the earliest, a ruling comes out of Mt. Goodell.  Brady and his agent have to understand that.

He has no grounds to sue. "Unfairly humiliated" does not rise to the level of creating a cause of action.

non-story made into a federal court case, literally and figuratively
would be a distraction in camp with other players/teams

proceeds to set team record with straight completions with 19, 78+% completion rate total, 4 TD and 0 Int, 143.8 QBR, in a team victory

Absurdity is the only way to combat this issue. If I were the Patriots, I'd start leaking really absurd cheating stories and just flood the market with ridiculousness.
That is a great idea and would be hysterical trolling.

"Steelers stolen play sheets written in invisible ink somehow decoded by Belichick. 'Don't Cover Gronk' was revealed by the nefarious Patriots."

Dan LeBatard this morning that next week Rex Ryan could say that the Bills found Percy Harvin locked in a cage in a dungeon and the Patriots did it and we'd believe it.

I think he was trying to take a shot at the Pats reputation, but I think it says more about the media.

I think you're overthinking it.
