Get it done, Red Sox, again. Rinse (the sparkling wine) and repeat.
Sale’s going for probably 4 innings. Bauer might be rusty and will also be tuning up. Who’s to say we can’t win?
Should be a weird feel-out type of series. Indians are locked into 3 seed and virtually have been for months. Sox are up 8.5 on the Astros with 9 to play, Astros 10 to play... that’s right, a magic number of 2 for complete HFA
My post-clinch hangover lineup prediction:
Any other guesses?
I heard the equipment guy has been sneaking into the batting cage and to 3B for infield. What the hell, give him a shot.
Late September Scrimmage
Cora might want to give the force known as the BrockStar a day off. He’s been working hard and everyone needs a blow once in a while.
I would rather have Holt in CF and Lin at SS. Cora said Moreland may get a few days off, so it might be Porcello at DH.
Most can't possibly do any worse in the field than they have in the pen...
According to this -- https://www.baseball-reference.com/blog/archives/10835.html -- the last time a lefty played second base was 35 years ago (Don Mattingly).
Even in a slow pitch softball game or a Sunday picnic game, a left handed third, short or second baseman looks weird.
Why not start Porcello at 2B and have Poyner available to PH?
I don’t think you guys are taking this seriously LOL.
Official we clinched last night lineup:
So, the reason JD plays is because he’s chasing the triple crown?
This is almost the only situation where if two managers got on the horn together in the afternoon and discussed how far to go with the “clinched don’t care about this game, what kind of lineups should we put out there”, nobody would care.
That could be part of it. And since he's DHing, I could also see Cora leaving it up to JD to let him know what he needed to stay sharp.
And they have to have *someone* in the lineup who can hit.
The Travis/Lin/Swihart outfield is what makes the rest of the league jealous.
Do you have a lefty at 2b?
Unrealistic, but the rest seems sound.
They don't look like the jealous types:
This is not the lineup of a well balanced team. I think they should give their playoff spot to the Rays. Their 62 fans will appreciate it.
Pomeranz in right, what first came to mind was this guy being out there.
Well, even then they knew they'd find a much better place, either with or without you.

Tito not playing along with the clinched lineup theme.
Game 154. I understand resting Mookie, but if he hit 31 HR in this game he would break the Babe's record with no asterisk.
He wants to finish with a better record than the Rays.
Brock Holt is such a gamer. Dude was drinking like a bastard last night but he's not taking a day off.
You'd better change it back or we will both be sorry.
He looks big and presumably has a good catch radius but can he throw or hit?
Travis-Lin-Swihart has to be up there with the strangest starting outfields in Red Sox history
Okay, so I had 8/9 players/positions correct — Moreland for Martinez — but wasn't great on the lineup positions.

Cora said that while it may look like relievers are fighting for spots on the postseason roster, he knows who he wants.
Subtly important game insofar as it will be interesting to see how Sale does (not that he'll be going against the same Cleveland lineup that we might face in October, but still).
I wonder if, after all the guys were in the clubhouse, Cora said OK, who wants to play today? Probably not because everyone would feel like they should say yes.
Many of them seem like they are fighting to be left off the playoff roster.

Some #RedSox stuff:
* Goal for Chris Sale tonight is 5 IP and/or 75 pitches.
* Cora called two GMs who had interviewed him for jobs previously — Mike Hazen and Jon Daniels — to thank them for their guidance.
* JD Martinez was out of the lineup until he talked his way back in.
Someone else to pick them out? Turn them around? Turn them into someone new?
I get that they were boozing it up last night but what time do you think most of them settled down? You figure there’s some carryover drinking on the plane so what, like 3:00, maybe 4 worst case? These guys aren’t middle aged out of shape desk jockeys and they aren’t getting up for an 8AM meeting. I’ll bet most if not all wouldn’t be too wet-brained to play if required.
Goal for this game: Sale healthy.
I see that Francona is playing the big boys.
Wonder if Leon will come out when Sale does.
Looks like a split-squad March line-up.
"Strange cat, but he can pitch."
about as well as Lin can hit a ball
Mookie looks a lot better than I would have expected
True. And I hope everybody forgives him if he has a O-Fer
"They'll drop a five spot on you just to keep in shape."
Eck is coming in hot tonight.
That's how they learn. Get it out of your system.
Even the Boz talked about blowing his team blowing their first big shot at a big game because they were partying and were playing a team that knew better and growing up about it after that.
