Soccer gets a lot of grief for a lot of good reasons. But sometimes it amazes. That is why I felt compelled to post a link to this video. A quick-thinking striker saved the opposing Keeper, who had swallowed his own tongue. The fact that it may have changed some racist fans for the better is a bonus. Didn't see this posted anywhere, so if it is in the wrong place or duplicitous, please move accordingly. Thanks.

Cool story. I feel like I have to say it: You CANNOT swallow your tongue - it if physiologically impossible. However, the tongue can occlude the airway and it looks like the actions of Kone to quickly clear the GKs airway were right on. If you are ever in that situation just do a jaw lift maneuver. Just pull the jaw forward by placing your index/middle fingers behind the jaw and lifting gently upward. Open the airway, take a look - do not do a blind finger sweep. If something is in the way, clear it gently. Stabilize the c-spine and roll pt if he/she is vomiting. Call 911 and be a hero.

I'm still in awe after watching this a dozen times. Yes, Francis Kone was close to the play, but to have the nerve, wits, balls, whatever, to actually assess the situation and immediately start to act....well it is freaking amazing. No hesitation. Please note the series of tweets that were referenced by one fan, who noted the overtly racist behavior of some home fans and how the selfless act -of a black opponent, no less - may have changed the way they think as well.
