I've never been able to reconcile how a parent moves on from the loss of an infant. For Hill to do so while continuously and conspicuously in the public eye as a professional athlete seems an even more daunting challenge. Drew Sutton went through it a few years ago when he was with the Sox, as did Mets catcher Landon Powell last offseason.

My girlfriend and I recently suffered a miscarriage about 10 days ago. I can only imagine what it must be like for someone to actually have the child and have that happen. Awful

It's immeasurable how after having children, your only true concern is their health. That's No. 1 and whatever the No. 2 concern is in your life isn't even in the rear-view mirror it's so tiny. I can only echo mabrowndog. I don't know how parents continue after such a loss. Perhaps it's because they've got another child to take care of, and that becomes the focus.

Man, I just bawled yesterday when I read abut this. It is impossibly difficult to lose a child. I hope his wife has a lot of support once he's on the road wherever he ends up.

Not here
I was a basketcase after I lost my dad. I'm not sure I could recover from losing a child. Truth be told, I'm not sure I'd want to.

In a perfect world, parents never bury their children, let alone an infant. I imagine a return to a normal routine has to help somewhat, but I'd be a walking zombie for a while if that happened to me. Can't imagine what their dealing with.

We went through this with our first child, who lived a little over 2 days after birth due to a heart condition. It was incredibly hard. My thoughts are with the Hill family.

Amen my brother. You and I are members of a club nobody wants to join. And the lesson Rich Hill is talking about is that you can never take the people you love for granted. They all have expiration tags. Everybody knows that in theory, but knowing it right down to your core is something else - it changes how you live.
