For those who didn't see the game... what makes it so unbelievable is that the puck went between Rask and the post and missed everything

If you can, watch the first period. They are quick, have a smooth breakout and work hard to control the puck once in the offensive zone and generate chances. They also got much better goal tending in the 1st two rounds. Most importantly, they didn't face Tuukka Fucking Rask: @cshea posted in the game threads that they had an expected goal figure of ~2.5 in the 1st last night and they didn't score at all. That's nuts.

via Fluto in The Athletic (Which you should subscribe to if you're not already doing so)

With Jake DeBrusk (slashing) and David Krejci (high-sticking) in the box in the first period, Chara stayed on the ice for a shift that lasted 2:15. At the endgame, Chara logged a 1:48 shift.

The Hurricanes did not score either time. They put three pucks on Tuukka Rask during the 5-on-3 and two at the end.

While there are certainly times he's looked a little rough the old man's still got it.

In that article it indicated that if you include the 6 on 5 time at the end of the game, Chara had over 7 mins of PK TOI last night. That's insane.

If it weren't for the Canes the Bruins would be facing Braden F. Holtby right now. I'm cool with them. :)

That 6 on 5 was a clinic in suffocating defense. In fact the whole last 5 minutes you could just see that the ice had shrunk for Carolina. Not that they had no chances, but there was an intensity to the defense and a closing of time and space that was really impressive and (I think) rattled Carolina to the extent that they were rushing and unable to make the plays to get really good looks.

I’ll second the endorsement of The Athletic.

Yeah, the Bs were excellent at pressuring the puck carrier while keeping sticks in the passing lanes and not allowing the Canes the middle of the zone. Then once they got it out of the O-zone, the wings and centers fore-checked the puck carriers in waves to make it hard for Carolina to move the puck forward.

Sounds like Wagner is done for the season.

Also, Nordstrom looks like all of the male characters from Napoleon Dynamite put together

Kuraly at the end reminded me of Marcus Smart just shutting down an opposing PG under his own basket. It was a shame Kuraly couldn't pot an ENG towards the end, as he truly deserved it.

Was thinking the same. And how rare it is to see something like that in a man-down hockey game. To be fair, the d-man had probably been on the ice for the previous 90 seconds and was cooked (Slavin *averaged* 1 minute per shift), but still.

Does anyone have a screen capture of the obvious too many men that didn't get called at the end of game 3?

    The cshea series wrapup:

    - The series was won at special teams. The Bruins PP scored 7 goals in 20:31 of PP time. Carolina scored 1 PP goal on 22:34. Otherworldly performance by the power play this postseason. The Carolina power play, on the other hand, was putrid.

    - I think we’re all in agreement on Tuukka. He was outstanding.

    - Canes held the 5x5 possession edge, but it was truly an empty calorie Corsi rating. Carolina controlled 53% of the shot attempts but the Bruins wound up with a 77-68 scoring chance advantage, and a 42-24 high danger chances, 58% expected goals and they outscored Carolina 8-4 at even strength. Bruins did a great job defending the slot and now allowing more chances.

    - The Bruins were in control the whole way. It never really felt like they were on their heels, except for the 1st period of game 3.

This brings me back to Yankee fans after game 4 in 2004. Always fun to remember.

Ha, I noticed that yesterday, but they fixed it by now. I figured we were going to play a few more just to stay sharp.

    I’m Zdeno Chara.

I meant the Bruins - we, Boston. Is that like not a thing here unless you’re with the organization?

It's totally normal and most every sports fan talks like that.

A smug minority, which of course we specialize in around here, like to make fun of the construction. As if emotional attachment and a small piece of self identity going along with your team were freak concepts. How stupid it is to care about anything, right?

Edit: ok that was too strong by half for a real fan like Flawless, but still, it's always seemed a strange criticism to me.

There right now and it says $29.99 for first year and will renew at $59.99 in June 2021. That's, uh, 2 years.
