It's not you, I was thinking the same thing. Pens-Flyers would have been about 1000x more exciting. I blame the Rangers.
I had the same thought as everyone else, at least during the bits I caught and most of the third. I think shots in the 3rd were 3-0 Rags at the second commercial break. And they certainly weren't getting any good chances either.

The Rags PP looks like the B's only one of give it to the point and have the remaining 4 (or 5 with the goalie pulled) stand there for a pass. GJGE.

The Pens did exactly what they should be doing against a tired team - get up a pair and put the game in an anaconda vise.  No reason whatsoever to open up and run and gun.
Not saying it was an ineffective strategy - clearly it was effective tonight - just boring in a playoff season that's been damn exciting overall.

Edit: grammar, durr.

I'm perfectly fine with the Pens having a boring series for once instead of the carnival.

That was the worst live sporting event I have ever been to. There was literally nothing to be happy about for the entire game. The Ranger's power play is a sorry state of affairs. Times one billion times infinity. Worthless. Bad, tired team, too many passes, too many fanned shots, too much failure.

They hit the post a few times but just couldn't get a bounce. These past two nights have made MAF look like Patrick Roy in his prime. FML

Well if the Rangers were looking for some life they were just handed it by Pittsburgh as not only does Brooks Orpik return but they paired him with Rob Scuderi.  That might be the most nightmarish d pair I've ever seen.

and now Orpik's hurt again leaving Pittsburgh with 5 defensemen.  What an idiotic lineup decision.

In the Pen's last three goals, the Ranger's PP has been involved in 3 of them. One shorthanded goal and last game, both of the Pen's goals came right after power plays when the guy was out of the box and immediately scored, after a Rangers turnover. It's a complete and utter liability. The only time the Pen's score is when the Rangers have a PP.

Horrendous. Gutless fucks.

This is why I wanted Philly to win. The Rangers are like robots on skates and they don't have the skill to keep up with Pitt. And apparently they have the worst PP of all times. Did I hear them say 0 for the last 35 earlier?

that was a really leaky goal by Fleury but a huge immediate response by the top line.  No small wins in the playoffs but this one was really big given they had 5 dmen for two periods.

Marty St. Louis mother died unexpectedly at age 63 yesterday.  How sad.

Officially 'no word' if he plays tonight - but family ought to come before his job, hopefully.

T&P to his family.

He should be given the choice to play.  It should be solely his decision, and no one should fault him any way for his choice.  If playing will help him deal with his grief, he should.  If he can't, he should be excused, and if he doesn't play again this season because the Rangers lose, it surely isn't his fault.

Will be at Consol for this tonight. Smart enough to not wear Bruins gear. But should be a fun celebration after anyway.

The Rangers are so bad in the second period. What a joke. Hockey AIDS, otherwise known as Rick Nash, is still horrendous.

Now I'm kind of OK with how the 2nd period is going.

Except for that first 10, Pens look like shit. Rangers flying and reaping the rewards. Place is quieiting down. Weirdly only 3/4 full as is.

crazy how often the Penguins power play goes into a coma with the talent they have

Crosby is truly the personification of Satan. I know you're a Pens fan, so you probably like him, but he's easily the most hatable player in the league.

No he's not. Maybe its me but it seems like he's gotten away from some of the stuff he had a bad rep for early in his career.

He has. People just hate him now because he's the face if the NHL. The cameras are always on him and, as the captain, he's often talking to the refs so he gets the whiner label. And the diving label is a bunch of crap. He's just a generational, all-around talent and I've grown to appreciate that.

there's a way to be the best player in the league that doesn't involve all the cheap shit he does behind the play and act like a petulant child.  He's a phenomenal talent but he uses his stick for a lot of stuff other than handling the puck and never has to suffer the consequences because he never has to drop his own gloves…just has his teammates do it for him.

edit: maybe it's just been magnified in the playoffs..or maybe it was just today's game, but I feel like he slashes a lot…could be SSS

he may be a tremendous player and you can't deny his talent, but you don't have to like him. To say you must like Crosby or you don't like hockey is wrong.

Why should he fight? It's a net gain for the other team whenever he drops the mitts. Plus he has a little bit of a history with head trauma.

WRT the stick work, meh, every forward, especially centers, does it. If you have a problem with Sid's stick work but not, say, Marchand's you're looking through some tinted glasses.

Duh. Blank reply.

Except Marchand has a reputation as a sneaky, dirty little weasel. So there's that.

I do think it should be one or the other. Either ease up on the stickwork or be willing to drop the gloves. But I don't see Crosby as that chippy of a guy. Some pretty mild stickwork yea, but he's not really going around 2-handing guys and spearing people. He probably takes more sticks than he gives.

First bolded is my general thinking… if you're going to be cheap you should be willing to fight at some point.  A reason I dislike Orpik…but Crosby isn't on Orpik's level of cheapshottery

Second bolded is a fair point too.  Hadn't really considered that, but it's gotta get tiring and would be hard not to retaliate.
