That was either done as an incentive to get him to sign, in which case their only alternative was to send him back to BU, or it reflects shortsightedness (i.e., they thought he could help them before he signed, but gave up on that notion after half a dozen NHL shifts.
I understand he was waffling on signing, and they used the burning of the ELC as a carrot to get him to sign and avoid him returning to BU.

Bergeron for the Players Tribune, related to making the playoffs more than Ottawa.

Here’s my best piece of advice for you if you’re thinking of chirping Brad Marchand.

Don’t.

Just don’t.

.....

But one thing you absolutely have to know is that you will not outchirp Marshy. You just won’t. The guy always gets the final word.

As soon as a guy on the other team messes up, Marshy will be right there to skate by him and say, “That’s the best play you’ll make all night. Keep going.” That’s if he’s in a good mood and going easy on the guy.

If there’s a young kid on the other team, he’ll skate up to them between whistles and say, “Hey buddy, glad you could make it. Just try to soak it all in. Enjoy it. This is your last game before you’re sent down.”

Of course there are many, many other truly hilarious things I’ve heard him say over the years, but none of them are really close to being appropriate for publication.

Wait … let me think about it … nope, none.

I’ll just put it this way, if you ever have seats along the glass during one of our games, listen closely for a show and prepare to put earmuffs on the kiddos.

Sounds like Miller's mostly testing his leg and not going through practice. We'll see tomorrow. No call-ups so Morrow would be freed if Miller can't give it a go.

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Stafford - Spooner - Backes
Vatrano - Moore - Nash
Schaller/Kuraly - JFK - Beleskey

Chara - McAvoy
Liles - McQuaid
Morrow - K. Miller

Another example of Haggerty hearing something different than others

David Krejci is "unavailable" for Game 2, per Bruce Cassidy. Colin Miller left ice early, so not looking good for him either

Benjamin
Krejci doubtful for tomorrow, per Cassidy. Colin Miller also unlikely

KPD
Krejci did not practice and also doubtful for Game 2 Sat vs. Ott. Spooner No. 2 center, w/Stafford, Backes.

McAvoy played nearly 28 minutes, second on the team behind Chara, but did not see the ice in the brief OT.

As of now (with injuries), he is their #2 defenseman and it seems like he'd stay in the lineup even if everyone else were healthy (Chara-Carlo, Krug-McQuaid, KMiller-McAvoy).

What happened in Game 3 sucks but it has the potential to make the rest of the series really interesting (and it already was good). This team has flaws but under Cassidy it has some character. I like rooting for them.

Now win some faceoffs and avoid stupid penalties (real or imaginary).

Relative Corsi numbers are pretty dramatic for this series.

Among Bruins logging significant ice time, Bergeron, Marchand, and McAvoy are out ahead of the pack (14.4%, 10.5%, and 9.3%, respectively).
