I will never forget his catch in the end zone to cap the comeback win over the Vikings in 1994

This is one of my fondest memories...I was 16 and watched this game with my dad at the old Commonwealth Brewery in Boston. My dad ordered me a beer and it was one of the first times I felt like an adult. I remember when the Patriots came back and won on the Turner catch, I thought at the time that it was the turning point for the franchise, after a few false starts - that wins like that only happened to the perennial "good" teams. And it kind of was a turning point. So, thanks Kevin Turner. R.I.P.

I just saw this on CSNNE, no shock he died, he's been in pretty bad shape for awhile. I am more surprised he was only on the Pats for 3 seasons. Being young (10-12) it seems like he was here a lot longer.

First, this is obviously about Kevin Turner. I hope his family is well supported by those that know them personally as they deal with his death. If the things described as a result of this disease (never having personally encountered it) are any where near accurate, I also hope that his passing provides a measure of relief to those who cared for him.

Less importantly, *IF* this truly was (as he was trying to prove) a result of his on field injuries related to repetitive impact or concussion injuries it leaves me feeling in an uncomfortable way. I understand that players are going to make choices about their bodies and injuries versus their future and that of their family's future. But I've always rationalized that having a wonky hip or a bad knee or mangled fingers isn't much different from the guy who builds stone walls for 40 years - and the pay is certainly better. But brain injuries/damage is a whole other animal. Honestly I don't feel so good today about supporting the environment that leads to this kind of impact, especially given that medical data was denied, withheld, misrepresented, etc. to the players.

RIP Mr. Turner.

I'll pile on with remembering the amazing Vikings comeback. I remember being bummed when he left for the Eagles. Thanks for the memories Kevin Turner. RIP.

My dad and I always referred to him as "Nine Yards", as in "Kevin Nine Yards Turner" because it seemed like every time Bledsoe threw it to him he was open in the flat for nine yards. I remember that even more than the gamewinning TD against the Vikes.

Turner was targeted just 6 times that game (out of 70 attempts) and caught 4. His overtime TD catch was his longest of the day (14 yards).

Lots of memories looking at the names, like Brisby, Butts, Timpson, Coates, etc.

Reads threads backwards
He was my binky during his 2-year career with the Pats, and I was bummed that he went to Philly. My respect for him has only grown now.

Tamara Alan, executive director of the Kevin Turner Foundation, heralded McKee’s findings as a breakthrough made possible by Turner’s commitment to eradicating brain damage in sports.

“Kevin always used to say it’s not enough to make a difference; you need to be the difference,’’ Alan said, her voice cracking with emotion. “I think today Kevin is the difference.’’

Brutal sport, brutal outcome. I feel for those who were close to him. My eyes are wide open about the toll this game takes on those who participate. Outcomes like this go a long way toward putting into context why the popularity of the sport is declining. I remember well the joy I felt when he had the winning catch in the game against Minnesota. I have conflicted feelings about it now.
