I actually misread things:

- Kentucky plays Florida and Florida wins, he doesn't get shit.  So he can't hedge the Final Four.
- Kentucky plays Florida and Kentucky wins, he finishes in third and gets $2,670.
- Kentucky plays UConn and UConn wins, he finishes in second and gets $6,675.
- Kentucky plays UConn and Kentucky wins, he finishes in first and gets $12,015.

HOWEVER.... if UConn BEATS Florida, there's a window where he could place a bet....

So what if Kentucky doesn't beat Wisconsin?  He gets squat there, too?  I mean, that's half the scenarios.

I think that's right MDL.  If Kentucky loses to Wisconsin, he doesn't win anything.  If Kentucky beats Wisconsin, and Florida beats UCONN and then beats Kentucky in the finals, he would still get nothing, so that's why he can't initially put a hedge on the Kentucky/Wisconsin game.  He needs to see what happens in the Florida/UCONN Game first.

He's lucky that Florida/UCONN is the first game today.  If UCONN wins, then he knows that he is guaranteed second place and $6,675 if Kentucky beats Wisconsin.  He needs to be ready to hedge the Kentucky/Wisconsin game if UCONN gets by Florida today in the early game.

If Florida wins, then he can't do anything  but hope that Kentucky beats Wisconsin.  If they do, he can then hedge the Kentucky/Florida final for the third place money of $2,670, which he'll get if Kentucky beats Florida.  If UConn beats Florida, and Kentucky beats Wisconsin, he'll have lost his hedge bet, but is now guaranteed the $6675 for second place, and can then hedge the final against UCONN with a chance at $12,015.

I actually really like both UCONN and Kentucky today, so I like his chances a lot.
