As well, the Cubs don't have any huge money other than Lester, who they need if they are trying to compete.

Joel Sherman on MLB Network:

Yankees have gotten indication that the Padres are "working on something big" that involves Kimbrel.

This has all the signs of one of Theo's classic overly-complicated multi-team last minute trades that falls apart under its own weight followed by a shoulder shrugging press conference.

The only team getting a LOT of consistent mentions is the Padres. They certainly seem like they're going to do something.  I'll be surprised if The Sox do anything huge.

Well he closed two of those in 2004 and 2008. That's pretty good.

Can people please post the text of tweets like Corsi does?  For some of us it just shows up as a link.  Thanks.

This deadline sounding like it could be a huge snoozefest. Lots of stuff seeming like it's not happening/won't happen

The eleventyseven bazillion trades thus far not enough to amuse you?

Ha! I was just thinking this. Duffy has already been worth 3.2 WAR this year. I'd say they are pretty happy.
Even could use the word ecstatic that Duffy is working out so well so soon after Joe Panik did the same. What an infield they now have with those two added in with Crawford and Belt, and all home grown.

Okay, I know what the Sox want here---Ross/Kimbrel. Padres wants youth. Do we think the Cubs want Koji?

I know they're selling high (if Cleveland is really shopping him), but the price must be enormous for Carrasco.

K/BB of 5.0, xFIP of 2.7 over his last ~300 IP...

I don't see how a package doesn't include Swihart.

Was talking more about how the final couple hours have gone down. Talk that Bruce Gonzalez might not be dealt, this was also when Tomase said the 3 team deal was unlikely to happen

Next time an exclamation point is enough for emphasis. (jk)

Geez, imagine the Sox adding Carrasco, Ross, AND Kimbrel today.  Very small chance it all comes to fruition but my goodness.

Could the Indians not understand what they have here?

Or are there reasons to be concerned that we can't see?

He sure looks like an awesome target to me

Yeah trading Bradley Jr. would make sense.  The Red Sox did a nice job rebuilding his trade value but they've been hiding him in AAA as if they don't believe in him.  They probably want to move him.

Watching MLB network, that ex-Rockies GM is pretty smart, not sure why things didn't work out for him with the Rockies, but then again buidling a winner in Colorado hasn't been easy.  He is so much smarter than H.Reynolds and doesn't shy away from correcting Reynolds when he is wrong, which is often.  He was the first one to argue that getting out of the Gomez deal was a good move by the Mets.  I'm not sure why the other commentators couldn't figure that out.

I have a hard time believing we get Ross and Kimbrel for just Koji and Owens.

What about the report of us looking to move the unmovable in this deal?

I can't imagine ANYONE thought the Cubs would prefer Koji over Kimbrel.

However, they might prefer Koji over Kimbrel, given what they have to give up in order to acquire either guy.

Nightengale on MLB Network saying the Cubs want Ross and Kimbrel and that the Sox are "on the periphery" of any potential deal.

Unless they give up something people don't want to give up. the Red Sox are more likely to end up with David Ross or Cody Ross than Tyson Ross.

Yes, Carasco seems to be the prize here. How would we rank the importance of these rumors?

1. Cassasco
2. Trade Panda and eat some of his celery.
3. Kimbrel
4. Trade Koji for high end prospect

It depends on the cost though. They may want Kimbrel but don't want to give up the asking cost.

Agreed, he's been excellent. He had a segment last night about how a team would use an fWAR-filled war room to go after targets at the deadline, it was illuminating.

The Cubs probably need us to take salary back from SD, in the form of Shields and Gyorko. If that's the case, we should get a tasty piece from the Cubs for doing so.

That might be one-sided, that is, only the Red Sox are talking about it (thinking Sandoval specifically). The other 29 teams can't be that deaf, blind and stupid. Sandoval can't field or run well right now. Hell, he can't even stay on the field lately. Other teams don't see that?

I could absolutely see the Padres taking this risk. Between Norris, Gyorko, Solarte, and Amarista they have given over 1,000 ABs to hitters with an OPS under .700 this season.

Panda has a career .799 OPS and plays a position where the Padres are bereft of any legitimate alternatives. Maybe it's a pipe dream, and it could take some salary and prospect flexibility, but I could see the Padres talking themselves into it.

They shouldn't be eating Panda's celery at all. They should be eating his fried plantain and encouraging him to eat more celery.
