The next worse qualifying batting average in the majors right now is Joey Gallo's .210. However because Joey is putting up a .316 OBP (somehow!) and .500 SLG, his efforts have been worth 2.1 WAR to the Texas Rangers, just a bit better that Davis' current -2.6 WAR....
The difference in batting ability is about 2/3 that difference in WAR - the other Win and change is due to fielding ability (Davis is a little below average for a 1B, Gallo is a little above average for an OF) and baserunning (Davis below average, Gallo above average).

Gallo has been (overall) an average MLB hitter with average baserunning and average fielding at a corner OF, playing every day.

Davis has been a terrible hitter with poor baserunning and poor fielding at 1B, playing most days.

Someone making $23 million should not be competing for worst batting average ever. Sandy Leon is not paid to hit. Gary Sanchez isn’t paid squat. Perez isn’t paid squat either.
Though they are being paid to squat.

Chris Davis now in a 1-for-39 slump with 20 K's. BA down to .168. Almost assuredly will go down as the worst qualifying average of the modern era... assuming he he gets another 25 AB or so, he'd need to bat .350+. Currently 13th worst in history. If he dips to .165 he'll be in the "top" 10.

If Davis doesn't hit at least .180, he'll have the lowest batting average of anyone in history with at least 500 plate appearances.

Pedro allowed a .167 average in 2000, which is the record for pitchers if you wanna really think about how bad Davis has been.

What do you do with him moving forward? keep trotting him out there next season and hope he finds it? bite the bullet and cut him? bench him?

Remarkably, as long as Chris Davis is willing to go out there every day, the Os should stick him in the lineup because amazingly, he's going to be helpful to them in the next year or two.

Helpful in that he's going to cause them to lose games, which should help their draft position.

Chris Davis - the human tanking machine!

Yeah, this seems almost over (what with Machado and other good O's mostly all gone now) - O's with a 6.5 game "lead" on KC for worst record, only suspense left is perhaps whether or not the O's will get to 115 loses...
Not wanting to pat myself the back (too much), but I called this! Well done Orioles in living up to my worst case scenario for you....
