Durant's agent, Rich Kleiman, has long been rumored to covet the Knicks GM job. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a backdoor agreement to install him this summer if he delivers Durant.

I saw this posted on Twitter. Imagine if LBJ signed another 1+1 with Cleveland. He could have walked into NY with another max player and maybe the #1 pick in the draft plus tradeable assets for more help.

Exactly. There's no fit at all there.

After being bought out, DeAndre signs with GSW for the minimum. Then they'd have offense/defense at the 5.

This is potentially bad for the Celtics, regarding Kyrie. Jordan and Matthews are going to really help a contender. It could even hurt the Celtics this season

Is it out of the realm of possibility they would help us? I would like Matthews.

I'm sure Durant is itching to finish serving his sentence in the NBA gulag to go play for James Dolan on that decimated roster, in order that Stephen A. Smith might stop calling him soft.

Had he stayed in Cleveland they probably would have dealt the #8 pick for Kemba and then used Love/Nance/Osman to backdoor their way into conversations for Kawhi, Butler or even Conley and Gasol. Probably could have squeezed one more Finals run out of that roster and then had his pick of the two LA teams and two NY teams this summer.

I really don't get Porzingis. Is he actually a guaranteed max player? I get the great outside shooting, but that's usually valuable on a big man because you assume they do the regular big man stuff well, but KP doesn't rebound, isn't a great interior defender (though he does get a lot of blocks, I suspect many because he's a great help defender), and doesn't score all that well inside. Injury concerns add another layer on this, but even without them I feel like he's firmly in the "good" player category, not a centerpiece. Still seems like a terrible deal for the Knicks, but what am I missing?

He was a legit #1 offensive option at age 22, with a lot of room to improve on the defensive end, and completely ludicrous length. Those guys simply don't come along often, and it's always about what they can be, rather than what they are at the moment.

The injury concerns are very real, but if healthy, he's a guy you insta-max and feel good about it.

Matthews seems like such a natural fit on Philly that I'm having a hard time imagining him anywhere else.

When I saw the news this morning that Porzingis was hoping to be dealt, I thoguht that made the Knicks the front runner on Davis.

Porzingis and their first round pick would be a tough package to beat. It's really the only rumored Davis package that gives New Orleans the chance at two super stars.

Instead the Knicks do this. I think the Durant rumors are real, but man.

I'd be very surprised if the Warriors bring in DAJ. They've got Looney and Cousins to play at the 5, and DAJ is unlikely to be a happy camper without playing time.

I'm confused by teams who seem to think they can win with two superstars and detritus. DSJ plus any two of Kyrie, Kawhi, AD, Klay and KD is a playoff team in the East, but are they even making the conference championship? Likewise, Josh Hart, LBJ and AD might be, what, the #5 team in the West?

I just heard on The Michael Kay Show that KP wasn't interested in re-signing with the Pels and the Pels weren't interested in acquiring him.

Is it that crazy? Houston almost made the finals last year with two stars and some role players. Cleveland made it with just two. Toronto and Milwaukee have a good shot at the Finals this year and I'd be cautious to say that either has more than one star. It's way, way easier to get supporting players and bench guys than true superstars.

They're also looking at the possibility of the #1 pick in the draft. DSJ+ 2 off that list + Zion start to look pretty good if I'm a Knicks fan.

Edit: I'll also add, Dennis Smith Jr isn't going to prevent the Knicks from Kyrie. They can just as easily move him if they don't want to play together.

Hmm, I'd argue that Cousins is a comparably decent defender to DJ, but I could actually kinda see it. The Ws have an empty roster spot to fill, have talked about using it on one more full-size C to back up Boogie (Robin Lopez has been mentioned) and I know all the NBA in-crowd loves DJ...

People are underselling his injury concerns. Players 7'2+ taller with foot and knee injuries generally don't recover well.

And if they land #1 overall this offseason, doesn't that instantly become the start of a crazy tempting package for New Orleans? Zion + Knox + DSJ and suddenly the Knicks could be looking at a lineup of Kyrie, Durant, and Davis.

Knicks fans see him on the same level at Kat and AD, FWIW. His unicornness is certainly appealing, but I but his a notch or three below those two, but he’s a max candidate for sure

What first round pick is Dallas sending to New York? The pick they sent to Atlanta in the Doncic/Young deal could theoretically roll-over until 2023, does that mean it’s a 2025 pick or something? Or does Dallas have another team’s first they can deal? Sorry if this was reported, didn’t see it yet.

Arghhhhh. When is KP due back anyway? This trade makes Dallas worse in the mean team, possibly worse than Memphis.

Word seems to get around in the NBA. Dolan has to be kryptonite by now.

Apparently it's two first-rounders, but they can't convey earlier than 2021.

Wonder what the protections are. The Mavs could be in a bad spot if Porzingis doesn't return to form: they'd have Luka, but not many ways to upgrade around him.

Fwiw, I just had lunch with a Mavs fan (coincidentally) and he was ecstatic. Not just about Porzingis but getting rid of Matthews. The guy can shoot but is a ball stopper. I kind of hope Philly gets him. He has never been the same since his injury.

I think they could get there. Thomas, Ntilikina, Dennis Smith Jr, Knox, and Zion's cap figure are really close and if you need any more wiggle room you can get a third team involved.

So presumably they’re set to convey 2 and 4 years after the Doncic/Young pick conveys? But if that pick conveys in 2023 becuse it keeps rolling over, that second pick would be outside the 7-year window for trading future picks. It must convey as a second at that point, right? The odds are small enough it doesn’t matter - will tale lottery luck for the Mavs to get a top-5 this year and the pick not convey to Atlanta - but just interesting.

Unless I'm missing something the math checks out. Zion/Knox/DSJ is an insanely good deal for NOP and it'd be tough for any team to beat that. Boston would have to put Tatum, Brown and the picks on the table and even then I'm not sure you can pass up getting Zion.

Seems like a good deal for both sides. The Mavs pick up a guy who was considered one of the league’s most promising young players a year ago; the Knicks clear the books for an all-in free agent push and also pick up a 2nd year guy with upside (DSJ) and a couple future #1s.

The deal creates a plausible landing spot for Kyrie that didn’t exist before — the Knicks would have no trouble flipping DSJ for a young player at another position.

What’s not to like? Mavs were in no man’s land and Cubes stuck Atlanta and NYK in a locker, turned out the lights, and left the building.

Not sure where to put this, but, local phoenix media is reporting Demps HAS opened trade discussions re AD with Magic this afternoon. and that Phoenix is expressing interest in making it 3-way discussion. Phoenix part is that Suns would get Ball from Lakers and send Pelicans their choice of one of Suns’ three young wings, Bridges, Jackson or Warren. If true, that option might spice up what Pels can get out of the deal now.

So if the Pelicans don’t want to trade AD for a shitty young player like Lonzo Ball, the Suns will gladly substitute a different shitty young player, or a fungible rotation guy who is about is good as he’s going to get (Warren).

I’m not crapping on you — it’s interesting that Phoenix media is reporting this. It seems to me, however, that the Pelicans could find a contender who would be willing to top what the Lakers and Suns are offering just to rent AD for a year.

I hear you. But it does widen the horizons a bit for Demps. There is alot of wishful thinking here in Phoenix about getting a decent point guard to pair with Ayton and Booker. And apparently the Suns like Ball...

It's funny that DSJ had arguably the best game of his young career last night at the Knicks. 13 points, 15 assists, 10 rebounds and led the team with a +23 in 28 minutes. Timing is everything...

The Knicks are not an attractive free agent destination at the moment in terms of winning organizations, so there's no guarantee that the guys they want will go there in the first place.

That said, they had to do this because they signed Tim Hardaway to an atrocious contract. I guess they get a high five for knowing they need to courtesy flush, but it's their own turd that cost them KP. So yeah, woof.

I should clarify that the Mavs have to convey their pick to Atlanta this year to make this happen. I believe it is top 5 protected.
