Today the magic number is 1. We've locked a playoff spot, and obviously there is an advantage avoiding the wildcard. We won't be facing the Yankees first round due to the Twins record. However, with the following match-ups, which do you favor? With the health of the club, would you throw away the remaining season games and rest certain players? Maybe after a lock?

There is also the possibility of playing in two -1 game playoffs (Yankees and Twins) That would be worst case scenario. And I guess I should edit... the only way we can play the twins in the wild card now is if we lose a 1 game playoff to the MFY. I don't even want to talk about that but if it does come down to that, I have a hard time seeing this team even making it past the wild card game.

To answer your question... at this point I'm not sure how much it matters. I just have a sense that the Indians and Astros are the cream of the AL. It's the playoffs and anything can happen but the events of the last week or so haven't inspired a great deal of confidence going forward. If I had to choose... Astros. They can't keep scoring 10+ runs a game and have to cool off eventually...

This is very much the truth. I hope for an epic 7 game ALCS between Houston and Cleveland. You never know what can happen in the playoffs. But realistically, 2 ALDS wins for the Sox would be a good result

Fangraphs gives the Sox a 22% chance to reach the ALCS, and a 12% chance at the World Series. The Indians 34% and 22%. The Astros 30% and 18%. Can't argue with that.

I want to see the Red Sox win the division. Whether they play the Indians or the Astros in the ALDS is irrelevant, because in the long run, they'll probably have to go through both of them to get to the World Series. Anything can happen in the post-season, and I'll be happy to watch it all regardless of outcomes.

If we get out of this meek hitting phase before the playoffs I will be happy.

This team slumps like no other and it comes out of nowhere, as fast as them turning it around and killing everyone.

Hopefully they get the shit out before the playoffs.
