Here
I fucking hate Demaryius Thomas, so hopefully there are a loooot of incentives that make him easily cuttable for when he’s awful.

Josh drafted him, and the receiving corps is Edelman and the 45 running backs. I’m down for kicking the tires.

Yeah. Likely won’t work out but give me this over the scrubs we have recently signed.

Like Ed I do not care for this player and think he is kind of a weird fit as a guy with bad hands and a history of general spaciness. But he has been an NFL player at the WR position and maybe still is.

Chicken soup. Might help, couldn’t hurt, assuming there is no or limited guaranteed money.

It’s worth a shot. He hasn’t played with a good QB since Peyton so if anyone can get the most out of him it’s Tom. I’d look for him to be more of a possession receiver as he’s lost a lot of explosiveness even pre-injury.

Per Miguel, because he was released by the Texans, he does not count against compensatory picks.

Rookies seldom contribute right away with TB and the Pats. Thomas might. If BB and JMcD think he's worth a look, so be it.

I hope they draft a couple of WRs and let them watch and practice for the first half, with an eye toward contributing from November on.

here is the 02 on thomas

pro played in SB 48 with a sepated shoudler and was the only bronco along with CJ to keep trying in the 2nd haif
Can run a comeback screen with the best of them red zone target

con lost a lot of speed esp over the last 2 seasons does not run over the middlie look done in denver last season

unlees he shows something in rehab 60/40 he will be cut before the season

Wow up to $6m
Don't eat the cheese on this.

up to 6M means nothing.

If he somehow hits the "up to" part of this, he'll likely be well worth whatever the incentives are to get to that 6M.

I'd bet the guarantee, the down to I suppose, is minimal.

As soon as I saw this signing I felt “meh” but logged on here right away to see if you had any thoughts about him. Thanks for the insight. You never disappoint.

If they had to sign a washed up receiver I would have preferred that they just brought Hogan back.

Lol love the handwringing over Thomas. He’s a warm body, knows the offense and hasn’t played with a decent qb in years. And he’s cheap. I’m pretty confident BB isn’t signing him and calling it a day. They still need WRs and TEs. He will find them.

We need WR, he is the best WR available, the price isn't unreasonable even at the upper end of what he can make, he doesn't factor into the comp pick formula.

It's unclear when / if he will be 100% healthy and they still have enormous holes post-2019, so this doesn't preclude drafting a couple receivers later this month.

Thomas had 677 receiving yards last year (in a year where he got traded halfway; he was on pace for 800+ in Denver). That was his worst total since 2011 (when he was also coming off an Achilles injury, in his second season, and catching passes from Tim Tebow). Hogan's best career total is 680 receiving yards (his first season in NE).

If he makes $6M we are all going to be super super happy.

My only question is how does this work for the cap, do they need to save all of that space for him or will this be pulled out of next years cap if he achieves? With Gronk gone they have plenty of space unless they want to bring someone higher paid via trade like AJ Green.

It’s all about “Likely to Be Earned” (LTBE) incentives vs not-LTBE. The former are incentives that match or are less than last year’s actual production. So if his yardage was 677 and the incentive is 650 yards, it’s LTBE and counts this year. If the incentive is 700, it’s NLTBE and will count next year only if he achieves it.

Some rate stats for Thomas (2017-2018):

Targets: 229
Receptions: 142
Catch Rate: 62.0%
Yards per rec: 11.5
Rec TD: 10

In 2018 he had 6 drops.

Meanwhile, Chris Hogan (2017-2018):

Targets: 114
Receptions: 69
Catch Rate: 60.5%
Yards per rec: 14.1
Rec TD: 8

In 2018 he had 1 drop.

Meanwhile, Julian Edelman (2017-2018):

Targets: 267
Receptions: 178
Catch Rate: 66.7%
Yards per rec: 11.4
Rec TD: 9

In 2018 he had 8 drops.

Seems to me that the stats suggest that Thomas is just fine compared to their other receivers. He won't be as fast as he used to be, and his hands can be an issue, but Edelman has the dropsies too. Thomas should be pretty productive, as long as he's relatively healthy.

Here
Cap hit is 3 million, I think a good chunk of it can be recovered if he’s a camp cut. That’s fine. Now draft 3 more.
