So still no Trent Brown sighting. I wonder if we'll see him again this year, haven't heard any updates.

I can't even find a mention of him anywhere in weeks. Oct 16th is the last date of any article I can find that mentions him, it's like he disappeared.

edit: to be clear, there are tweets mentioning that he IS NOT at practice, but I'm not counting that as news

Gilmore praises Belichick but not the way the team handled his injury:

Just days away from facing his former team, the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers cornerback Stephon Gilmore expressed disappointment in the way he was dealt with by the Pats -- both on and off the field.
"I wasn't ready at the beginning of training camp, I'm going to be completely honest with you. The only thing [was] I just didn't like how they handled my situation with my injury," he said Wednesday during a conference call with the media. "A lot went on with that that I didn't agree with and now that I am here, I am able to do the things I need to do to get me back and be ready to where I need to be."

I attended the Chargers game in LA and we won. I will be attending the Panthers game in Charlotte and we will win.

The Patriots only lose home games that I attend.

Let’s go Pats!

I guess he wanted to rehab in ways that the training staff was not on board with?

But are we supposed to believe that because he was traded a month ago and is now able to do his prefered rehab is the reason he was able to play less than a month later? Would he not come off PuP and have been out for the entire year if he was not traded?

This feels like a convenient excuse to explain why he refused to play for $7 million for the Pats but is now willing to do it for the Panthers.

You have to guess, because he doesn't come close to saying what he disagreed with. And if pressed, he'd probably default to reliance on "HIPPA" (yes, I know).

As for the rest, yes, he implies that he would not have played in NE.
So why then, is the 31-year old willing to play under the same terms that he wouldn't in New England? Would he have been playing for the Patriots instead of being traded for a 2023 sixth-round pick had the Patriots sweetened his current deal?
"I don't know that," he said. "I couldn't answer that truthfully because I'm not there. I don't know, like, if I was on that same schedule if I would've played. I'm here now. I'm playing. I feel better."[/QUOTE]

Maybe Gilmore wanted to bath his Achilles in deer antler spray and the Patriots weren't down.

Reading between the lines a bit, it sounds like there were treatments he thought would accelerate his return but the Patriots wanted him on a different regimen with a less aggressive timeline (ie, the references to now being able to do "the things I need to do to get me back" and to "that same schedule" when referring to the hypothetical of still being with the Patriots).

It makes a certain amount of sense in that Gilmore has a big incentive to get back on the field and show he can still play at a high level in advance of his FA year.

I like that teams can be hit by players now for both rushing them back and having them take their time.

Maybe the basic issue is the leverage and control the teams have over a player's health and rehabilitation.

Sam Darnold has really turned back into a pumpkin over the last four games, with a completion percentage of 53%, 5 picks and only 2 TDs. He hasn't exactly been playing the league's toughest defenses either.

Road game or not, this is really a must win for the Pats if they want to make any noise this season. The Panthers are a mediocre football team.

Yep. The next four games, in fact, are HUGE.

at Carolina - Darnold has struggled
vs Cleveland - the Browns are a bit of a mess right now
at Atlanta - just not that good
at Tennessee - without Henry

3-1 seems imperative over this four-game stretch. 4-0 would obviously be preferable. But 3-1 to take them to 7-5 with five games left (2 against Buffalo, one at Ind, and two games they really need to win vs Jax and at Mia) seems pretty important.

Cannot really afford to lose this week.

Also, ATL could possibly still be missing arguably their best WR as Calvin Ridley has left the team to deal with some mental health issues, I believe?

A lot will depend which Kyle Pitts shows up. Weeks 5 and 7 (vs Phins and Jets, so big grain of salt) or Week 8? He has the potential to eat Patriot LBs for lunch. Gilmore did shut him down last week, so who knows if it was a down week for Pitts or Gilmore is back.

Given what the comments are, I see no reason to interpret his comments about dissatisfaction with the way his injury was handled to pertain to clinical care/rehab as opposed to dealings with the front office about his contract.

Tennessee is still a challenge, even without Henry. But if they can beat Carolina, Cleveland, and Atlanta, they'll be in good shape.

TENN is gonna depend on their line and their WR health. When they block and have Green and Julio both healthy (rare) they're a really good offense throwing it

There is little doubt the schedule has opened up. 3-1 is reasonable, 4-0 attainable, 2-2 disappointing.
It’s a tantalizing stretch of the schedule. If the Pats actually manage to go 4-0 over this stretch, it leads to a MNF game in Buffalo with a possible chance to take the division lead (Buffalo has cupcakes the next two weeks, but then Indy and New Orleans - they could be 8-3).

I'm curious to see how well NE can run the ball this weekend.

The Pats are ranked 22nd in the NFL in rush yards per game (101.), and 24th in rush yards per attempt (3.9). However, consider Damien Harris' first four games compared to his last four:
- First four: 49 att, 172 yds, 3.5 y/a, 1 TD (43.0 yds per game)
- Last four: 69 att, 345 yds, 5.0 y/a, 5 TD (86.3 yds per game)

Meanwhile, Carolina ranks 14th in the NFL in rush yards allowed per game (106.8), and 21st in rush yards allowed per attempt (4.4). In their last three games they've allowed 127.7 rush yards per game.

So Carolina's run defense hasn't been as good lately, while New England's has been superb, especially Damien Harris. I suppose I should expect him to get a lot of carries and run effectively, which will help in other aspects of the offense.

Is it that they haven’t been as good lately or that teams have run more against them because they had the lead? I think it’s more that.

Darnold will not be at his best tomorrow, which is generally shitty anyway. I feel like McCaffrey will do what he does, but if the defense doesn't let anyone else on the Panthers kill them tomorrow, they should be in good shape.
Solid call.

Panthers LB Reddick calls out Mac for "dirty play".

Carolina Panthers edge rusher Haason Reddick called the first-quarter no-call in which New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones held Brian Burns' right ankle as the outside linebacker twisted to get away after a strip sack "egregious'' and "completely dirty.''

Burns returned after spending time in the sideline medical tent, but in the fourth quarter, he had to again be helped off the field with an injury to the same ankle. Whether the two were related was not immediately known.

"Definitely thought it was a dirty play,'' Reddick said. "I actually saw and witnessed the play while it was happening. At first it felt like he was trying trip or kick Burns. And the next thing you know I saw him tugging on Burns' ankle. I thought it was completely dirty. Hopefully, it's something the league addresses.''
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32578190/carolina-panthers-lb-haason-reddick-calls-new-england-patriots-mac-jones-dirty-play

I noticed this at the time but the CBS replays didn't really show the full extent of what might have happened. It looked like after Burns hit Mac, Mac grabbed hold of him as he was trying to get away. Whatever happened after that, I'm not sure, but it ended up with Burns basically being unable to walk off the field.

edit: found this on the twitters:

View: https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/1457418357171494912

edit: Okay now I see that the Breer tweet was posted in the game thread and there was some discussion about the incident.

It's not a great look for Mac, even though I think most of the damage was done by Burns himself trying to spin out of it.

Just a garden variety hold which would be declined. No real excuse for Blakeman to miss it, the QB is the only thing he is supposed to be looking at.

Here
Mac thought the ball was still loose and was trying to keep the dude from getting it. Had the ball been loose it would have been legal, as tackling at that point is fine for anyone. I guess it’s a defensive hold after Panthers get possession? I mean that wasn’t unsportsmanlike, it’s pretty normal. Dude twisted his own ankle trying to get out.
