Official word on his role with the organization:

The Red Sox have come to a long-term agreement with 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series Champion David Ortiz, inking an unprecedented deal that should link him with the organization forever. In his new role, Ortiz will act as a mentor for current players, participate in recruitment efforts, make a variety of special appearances for the club, and work in a business development capacity for Fenway Sports Management and its partners.

David is a Beautiful Man.

He should be, and apparently will be, a Red Sox for life in all respects.

This is fabulous news, and here's to him having a meaningful role with current players and kids coming up in the system.

Now go home and get some ass.

For him I'd make room in the 40 man roster.

Nothing but good things can come from this move. Whether it's local community relations or making Latin players more comfortable with the idea of playing for the Red Sox or helping players who are slumping or want tips on dealing with certain pitchers, the more David Ortiz is seen around the ballpark the better.

Thank you, I needed some purely good news today. Look forward to having Papi around for many more years

Let him make a speech like the one he did in the 2013 World Series to the team every few weeks. That was one of my favorite moments in that series.

Excellent move.

This. It's such a blessing to have, in Papi and Pedro, two of the best to EVER play the game be around the club like this. Most organizations would only dream of having one guy on that level.
