Crawl under Celtic pregame says go to CSNNE.com to find the channel number, I found nothing there. Google search found an article shows 085 for Comcast for the game, so I guess it's lowdef for the Revs tonight.

You'd think Comcast cable could get a Cocast channel a second digital slot!

Weak crowd. It looked had this many at my middle school game

DC used to lead the league in attendance.  That feels like ancient history now.  They are just holding on for the moment, one of the few teams in the league who can legitimately cry poor.  They need their new stadium yesterday, but at least it's getting done.

This game has become a lot more fun since Agudelo scored.  It was 1997-esque in the first 15 minutes.

PK for DC after Caldwell was called for a handball, but Rolfe hits the post....and I think Shuttleworth had it covered if it had been heading in, too.

Stays 1-1 with 15 minutes to play.

Jermaine's right, but that was the most Jermaine reaction of all time.

I can't believe Mark Geiger lost control of an important match.

There was a time when he was a respected referee, but he's gone off the rails for some reason.

Can't help but wonder how things would have turned out if the Revs didn't crap themselves down the stretch and drop into having to travel for this.

Imagine if the 2011 Red Sox had no payroll and no signings but the season transpired the exact same way except the wild card playoff game existed and they won it on the Atlanta infield fly rule call.

That's this D.C. United season. Batshit

I don't know how you call a penalty one way and don't call the other...that is awful refereeing.

It would be one thing if he didn't see it, but the replay shows he's basically ten feet away and staring right at it.  The defenders hand is nowhere near his side and he gained a clear advantage by handling it.

Well, that sucked.  Questionable refereeing, but you've got to do better against a thoroughly mediocre DC team that's been struggling for months, and who got stuffed 5-0 by Columbus a few days ago.  It's a shitty end to the season, but aside from the specifics of this game (esp. Geiger's inconsistent PK decisions) I don't feel as though the Revs' overall body of work deserved much more.

I saw Jones sprinting off the edge of the TV screen towards the ref and knew it was over.  That red card could be the last act of Jermaine Jones' career in New England.  He wasn't nearly as influential this season as he was down the stretch last year and he's going to want a lot of money for his continuing decline.

Ditto. The ball is still in play, in the box, with only a single man to contest it, and he gives up on the play to secure the loss. I was happy with what he brought to the team when he got here, but more often than not he's been an expensive liability. I wouldn't mind seeing Jermaine suit up elsewhere next season.

So, missing the first 25 minute of the Seattle-LA game means I missed four goals?

Ricketts did not have a good night. Gutsy win for the Sounders considering who they were missing. And they finally exorcise their demons, beating the Galaxy in the playoffs for the first time.

Brad Evans appeared to pull a hamstring at the end, though. So injuries are certainly mounting.

Ricketts made an absolute mess of that, Seattle takes the lead 3-2.
Has to haunt LA that they couldn't make things work out with Penedo. They assembled all that expensive talent, only to be undone by a suspect goalkeeper. He was partially at fault on the first goal, too. Anyone moderately competent back there, and they probably make a deep run in the playoffs.

Anyway, seeing LA crash out took a little bit of the sting out of the Revs loss. Much more entertaining game than I expected.

Ricketts is well below average for a starter and was disastrous last night, but it's worth pointing out that the Galaxy have been struggling for a little while now, even in games that Ricketts doesn't give away.  I think they have larger problems than just GK, which revolve around the fact that Keane, dos Santos, and Gerrard are not fitting all that well together.  All three are different players, but they all want to play somewhere in the spectrum between a defensive midfielder and a forward who leads the line.

There aren't enough positions in that zone to accommodate all three, however, which is a problem.  Keane has been so effective for LAG that he's always going to play in the same position.  Dos Santos can't be played out wide because he plays zero defense, so he's Keane's partner up top by default.  However, they are both forwards who like to play underneath, which disrupts the balance of the attack.  Zardes has to be shunted out wide, which isn't his best position.

In the midfield, Gerrard has looked like a 35 year old who hasn't had time off in a long time -- the summer of 2013, really, given the 2014 WC and the 2015 move to MLS.  Down the stretch he's been notorious for not tracking back, not tracking runners, not being very mobile.  He hasn't been Pirlo-level useless on defense, but he's been a liability.  LA's defensive pairing of Omar Gonzalez and Leonardo is great at cleaning up crosses or operating in a compact defense, but they aren't the guys you want when the other team has runners free in the box or is able to create 1v1s.

Balancing this team has been a struggle and it's one that Arena still hasn't been able to resolve.  On some level it's a similar problem to what NYCFC faces -- in MLS carrying multiple luxury players is quite difficult.

Toronto-Montreal about to kick off, I haven't watched these teams enough to really know what will happen in this match...

The Timbers-SKC match-up this season has been pretty boring, in 3 games only 1 goals was scored total.  I expect SKC to kick the crap out of Nagbe all game long, but he has been playing so incredibly well lately I don't know if even that will stop him.  I'm amazed that the Timbers were able to score 5 and 4 goals with two significantly different lineups recently, they used a 4-3-3 against LA and then a 4-2-3-1 against Colorado when Valeri was out (YC Suspension).  I assume tonight's lineup will be the same as in LA.

Montreal just went up 2-0 on Toronto in the first half.  Ignacio Piatti capitalizes after Josh Williams slipped at just the wrong moment.

Unimas announcer: "OOOOOOOH LA LAAAAAAA!!!!!!!"

36 year old captain & Montreal native Patrice Bernier scored the opener, a nice moment for him.  (It was Montreal's first playoff goal in MLS.)  Toronto's long-awaited playoff adventure looks like it'll be short.

In 10 years Drogba will be 47, and he'll probably still be roughly twice the player Jozy Altidore will ever be.

Crazy match in the PDX. One of the most intense sporting events I have ever seen.

Rest assured there will be plenty of hung over people in Portland tomorrow.

Interesting, yeah, and definitely the case that LA's recent losses to Portland and KC didn't have much to do with Ricketts. It's true that their big pieces don't fit together. I just thought they had enough talent outside their DPs (and whatever Dos Santos is) to overcome that. I think it's been well established that the model of buying one or two superstars and surrounding them with a bunch of schlubs doesn't work in MLS, but in LA's case, it was superstars surrounded by a team of mostly pretty solid pros. I thought they were going to be a tough out in the playoffs, but obviously I was wrong about that. I guess shoehorning Giovani and Gerrard into that lineup really was disruptive.

NYCFC I view as a fundamentally different situation. There they have three aging luxury players surrounded by a couple half-decent players and then half a team's worth of replacement level dreck. Running Villa and Pirlo out there was like sticking a Ferrari hood ornament on an '86 Yugo. NYCFC was just a really bad team, and no amount of tinkering with formations or tactics was going to fix that.

Unrelated note, but that Portland-KC knockout round game was nuts. Wildest penalty shootout I've ever seen. Abdul-Salaam's penalty in particular was jaw-dropping, but even without that, KC botched, what, 2 or 3 chances to close it out after a Portland miss? Unbelievable.
