Clippard was having a good season until this past week, 7 ERs allowed in his last three outings.

Hopefully that is for some of their AAA outfield excess, Mason Williams or Cave or Puello.

Heller is an interesting guy, a nice find for the Indians in the 22nd round of the 2013 draft. Double A hitters couldn't touch him and he is averaging a strikeout per inning in Triple A.

It's cool that the Indians are going for it. As long as they don't get in the Red Sox's way, I would like to see Francona do well, but they have really depleted their farm system over the last two days. They gave up too much for Miller.

Clippard is under contract through 2017, $6.15M next year. Not sure what the point of bringing him in is, but hard to complain too much after the previous two deals.

Cash played his cards so well on the two RP deals. Signed for cash, traded for a pretty sweet haul of prospects.

Gamel, Puello and Cavs all in the AAA lineup just posted, Mason Williams left yesterday hurt. I am guessing it is Aaron Hicks for Clippard, although I haven't seen that rumored anywhere.

Edit: Oh, Romine is quite expendable also, maybe him.

Let's remember Cherrington's gaffe at not bringing back Miller to Boston after he got Eduardo Rodriguez for him. Maybe NY will learn from Boston's mistake in not getting prospects for free when if they end up re-signing Chapman.

I know Heller personally. Simply an outstanding person. And, of course, a heck of a pitcher with a big time arm.

I'll root for him because I know him, but I hate that he's on the Yankees now.

With teams giving up so much value for dominant relievers, I would think that translates to the free agent market as well. Chapman is going to make big money, maybe double A.Miller's 40 million dollar contract? It is clear that the industry is placing more value on these guys than ever before.

I don't think it is a given that the Yankees will sign Chapman. The Cubs have resources too and they will probably look to sign Chapman long term especially after trading Torres for him.

Vicente Campos for Clippard, he has been pitching pretty well this year but is out of options next season.

Campos for Clippard. Good deal?
I think pretty inconsequential, Campos has come back nicely this year and jumped a few levels (one start at AAA last week), but it's unlikely he would be an asset at the big league level next year, and like I said above, he is out of options after this season.

Dammit, I haven't been to bed yet (was just about to crash when the Miller deal broke) and Cashman is not making it any easier:

Jack Curry ‏@JackCurryYES 3m3 minutes ago
Cashman: "Stay tuned. A lot more things could happen." Said the Yankees could make additions/subtractions. Clearly, looking to deal more.

I'm happy too. I know the Yankees are doing the right thing by re-loading, and they can try to bring back Chapman (and that would hardly be a surprise). But this year they're still within striking distance, at least mathematically. And like Jason, they never seem to be dead, even when logic tells you that they are. These moves help solidify morbidity in 2016, and that's of some solace to me. Some will say they were already the walking dead and there's clearly a good argument for that. But for me, the deader the better.

Keith Law on the Miller deal:

"The top prospect in the deal is outfielder Clint Frazier, the fifth overall pick in the 2013 draft, an outfielder with unbelievable bat speed and plus raw power, who has made significant progress as a hitter over the last two years, improving his pitch recognition and as a result cutting his strikeout rate substantially. His bat speed is among the best I've ever seen, but as an amateur he didn't have much discipline as a hitter because he seldom needed it; after a rough first season in pro ball, however, his whole approach has changed and he's become a more complete hitter rather than a guy who's just trying to hit everything 500 feet. He's played all three outfield spots but is best suited to left field, as he's a below-average runner without a great arm. With the improvements he's made already by age 21 he's probably a 25-plus home run guy who hits for a solid average, with a chance to become even more than that if his contact rate keeps improving.

The Yankees also get lefty Justus Sheffield, a slightly undersized left-handed starter from Tennessee whose brother, Jordan, was a sandwich pick of the Dodgers in last month's draft. Justus is 92-95 with a plus changeup right now and a fringy breaking ball, probably a starter because he's a great athlete with a delivery he repeats well. He's been fighting some tendency to overthrow, hurting his command and control, but he's also just 20 in high-A already and has shown the ability to miss bats with the two above-average pitches he already has. The Yankees' system doesn't have a lot of healthy starting pitching prospects at the moment, and Sheffield becomes their best.

They also added two middle relief prospects in right-hander Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen, the former a potential full-inning type, the latter a right-handed specialist. Heller's been up to 98 with a spike curveball as well as a slurvier breaking ball. Feyereisen's more 93-95 with a cross-body delivery and stiff landing that gives left-handed hitters too good of a look at the ball, but his breaking ball is good enough to get right-handed hitters out. Heller could come to the majors this year, while Feyereisen is probably a year or so away. This is a great return for a reliever, given the volatility of reliever performances and Miller's own fragility in the past. The worst case scenario for the Yankees was holding Miller only to see him get hurt; now they've continued restocking their system, adding three top 100 prospects in the two trades by capitalizing on a wildly overheated market for premium relievers."

We will never know, but I would say that if they go all out here, including releasing A-Rod, they could be a better team down the stretch than they are now. Plug in Austin, Judge, Gamel and Sanchez for Tex/Beltran/Hicks/A-Rod, replace Chapman/Miller with Warren/Clippard/Severino or Green/Bryan Mitchell, replace Nova with the other of Severino/Green, and I'm not sure that team is worse overall, even with losing Miller/Chapman.

You're right and I don't know nearly enough about the kids to make the comparison with a lot of authority. But with Chapman and Miller, you sort of knew that the Yankees would win if they were leading after six or seven. That's a huge advantage and I for one am glad they no longer have it.

I guess I don't get the Clippard deal, but they aren't losing much in Campos, and the way Cashman's luck is running these days they'll probably flip him either in the offseason, or at the deadline next year for a 20 year lefty in A ball with a 98 mph fastball

Olney, on SC, said they needed someone with late-game experience now that Chapman and Miller were gone

Um, what???

Jack Curry ‏@JackCurryYES 4s5 seconds ago
With Miller gone, hearing the Yankees are close to adding another veteran reliever to cushion that loss.

This is so Cashman get home before 1 AM every night. With our bullpen, it's gonna be some loooooooooongg middle innings :)

Seriously though, this is exciting. 89-91 was bad teams with no help in sight. Now, we can at least see top prospects given a shot. I was optimistic last year, but this years team just never clicked.

It's helping to make up for a very dull season, and I'm just so eager to see more deadwood gone and a wave of these kids playing.

First, although I don't post much in here, I want to mention how awesome I find this information and how great it is to hear some good Yankees discussion.

This. For me, this has been what I've been waiting for since maybe 2010-2011. There were a lot of deadlines where I shook my head wondering what ownership was thinking. Not trading Cano stands out. So, as tomorrow closes out, I'm just hoping for more destruction of this roster to make a mad rush toward a youth movement.

So, reading that Cashman's asking price for Beltran and McCann are too high.

I'd be very surprised to not see one or both of them moved and even more surprised if Nova and Eovaldi aren't garnering interest. Hope Cashman isn't overplaying his cards.

McCann has a no trade and Beltran has limited no-trade (15 teams), so who knows what's really going on. I'll be pretty surprised if Nova is still on the team two hours from now, though.

Tate was the #Rangers’ first-round pick, fourth overall, in the 2015 draft. He would head to #Yankees in Beltran deal.

Tate stock down a bit but another top prospect.

"8. Dillon Tate, Rangers
The highest-drafted player to have come through MLB's Urban Youth Academy, Tate progressed from pitching just three innings as a UC Santa Barbara freshman in 2013 to the No. 4 overall pick last June. With his live 92-98 mph fastball, sharp upper-80s slider and athleticism, he could advance very quickly."
