Sources: Yankees have sold 650,000 tickets more for this season than they did at this time last season.

For perspective, last year NY had 3.15M in attendance, selling out all 81 games would be around 4.4M. The Dodgers led MLB in attendance last year with around 3.77M. NY’s highest attendance figure since moving to the new Stadium is 3.77M and their high at the old Stadium was around 4.3M.

There hasn't been baseball buzz like this since probably the year 2000 in NY. I enjoyed last season more than I enjoyed almost any baseball season in recent memory. Thus, I purchased season tickets, a couple single games, and a group game for the Sept 20 final against the Sox.

Some fair weather fans down there huh?
Over time, I've come to a conclusion about fair weather fans. They are louder, more fun, and create a better energy at all baseball games than the "diehards" who go to 20 games a year, bring a turkey wrap, and fill out the box score while snarling at stubhubbers. Yes, some of them suck and have no etiquette. But many of them are just trying to see some fun baseball games and yell funny things.

Edit: Quick story - On average, I go to about 10 games a year. Last year, for the first time I saw Judge live, I had my phone out and wanted to take a video. I was absolutely ridiculed by some jackass who proclaimed how dumb it is to take videos of things when its all completely televised in much better quality and that I should sit down. Fuck off. I pay a lot of money to enjoy what I paid for and as long as I'm not blocking a view, I'm going to take a video of cool shit at my own discretion. Those fans do more to hurt the experience of a baseball game than they realize. It's like it's not okay to feel excited and appreciate great moments unless someone else deems it worthy.

Not to derail the thread, but it is interesting when people record every at bat of a star player from the grand stands. It's not unlike recording the hit song at a concert. I quietly judge people instead of outwardly telling them it's dumb, because to each his own when it comes to experiencing something. I like to take a quick photo to remember my vantage point(at a game or concert), and then prefer to experience it without recording it. Phones can be distracting(more at concerts than games), but I've come to grips with everybody enjoying their experience their own way, even if I think it's idiotic. Not that you're an idiot for recording it, unless it's every single at bat and you're watching it through your phone...but even then, I won't tell you that. The guy in the stands is wrong, even if he can't see why.

The atmosphere for NY's six home playoff games last year was fantastic, by all reports the best it's been since coming to the new Stadium, including the title year of 2009. If the atmosphere is anything like that for big regular season games this year, that will be a plus for NY (they went 6-0 at home in the postseason, 1-6 on the road).

I agree wholeheartedly, especially for concerts. On the other hand, a lot of people get to one game every couple years or less. It's unfortunate that frequenters lose their shock and awe but to sit there and be a judgmental tosspot is more annoying than anything.

On the other hand, I love making fun of adults who show up to the stadium in full uniform with a glove like they just got called up.

Agreed. During Jeter's final at bat at Fenway the stadium was nearly silent on each pitch because everyone was recording with their phones. It was weird. I'm guilty of taking video with my phone at games/concerts just like everyone else, but I'm trying to get away from it and enjoy the moment for what it is.

Plus, if I would have had my phone out when Judge nearly hit the ball out of Safeco last year then I probably would've missed the insane flight of the ball because I would be too busy messing with my technology.

You have an entirely different issue altogether. There is no reason to watch the game through your phone. Hold it up, set still, and watch with your eyes. You're doing it wrong!

Fair weather fans and front runners exist in every fan base. Plus, the Yankees were gifted the shiniest toy in the market, Stanton, so it’s no surprise that their fans are lining up for tickets. If their stating pitching holds up, they look to be the team to beat right now.

Good thing that’s a big “if” and baseball games get played on the field rather than paper.
