The big signing over the summer is Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon, for 12 million pounds. He had 25 goals last year which should help our offensive problems from this season.

Unfortunately he's got douchy hair.

Schedule was just released. Norwich had better have survival well in hand well before the end of the season, because we finish up with:

Liverpool
Man U
@Chelsea
Arsenal.

Brutal end of year run there.

Falling from 5th to 8th after that run of matches will not be anything to cry about. Surviving that run in December/January will be more important to the overall season results - three of four on the road might make for a dour Christmas/New Year.

Lots of exits so far, not much coming in yet:

Gone:
Simeon Jackson
Marc Tierney - to Bolton
Elliot Ward - to Bournemouth
Korey Smith
Tom Adeyemi - to Birmingham City
Lee Camp
Chris Martin - to Derby
Declan Rudd - loaned to Preston
Jed Steer - signed by Villa, compensation expected

Coming in:
Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon

and that's it so far for incomers.

Chelsea are in need of a keeper who would count for the home grown quota, and not suck as bad as Turnbull, depends on who would actually not mind only playing a handful of games(though Cech tends to be a bit injury prone).

Sure, I get that. Ruddy's got eyes on caps for England, though, not sure at 26 he's gonna want to sit behind Cech.

Chelsea offered 5 million. Norwich told them to at least double that, which means "Eff off."

Yeah I figured they were gonna need to set their sights a bit lower

Well fuck.

My head agrees with the move, Holt was waaaaaay off his scoring pace this past season and looked slow and out of shape even though he had just signed a contract extension. With Ricky! coming over there wasn't going to be as much time on the pitch for Holt.

At the same time, he's GRANTHOLT! I mean, the guy practically put us in the EPL in the first place singlehandedly. I am going to miss the big galoot.

Hah, that would be fantastic.

Apparently we've agreed to pay 6.9 million for Toby Alderweireld from Ajax, but he doesn't want to come over to a "mid-table" team. Nils, go break his kneecaps for me, willya?

Alderweireld would be great get. Young and good enough to be a really good player in the future, so good that you guys would probably make a healthy profit in 2-3 years

Well we couldn't agree to terms with him, so he's not coming over.

Just read a rumor that Hooper has told Celtic he wants to come to Norwich? Looking around for more now.

Did they steal that slogan from Wolverhampton or am I missing something?

This would probably make more sense:

Looks like Norwich:

Sky Sports News ‏@SkySportsNews
Sky sources: Norwich agree fee with Celtic for Gary Hooper and striker will have medical today #SSN

Take care of him. He and Van Wolfswinkel up top should be a big upgrade over last year's incarnation of GRANTHOLT!

I agree. I like the idea of both Ricky and Hooper up top. Goals were a problem for us last season.

Norwich and Celtic have had a good relationship over the past couple of years too, which hopefully will lure Hooper into coming with us instead of QPR.

He passed the physical. Looks like we got him. Announcement later on today.

7 signings this summer:

  • Javier Garrido:Left-back from Lazio
  • Nathan Redmond: Winger, £3.2m from Birmingham
  • Ricky van Wolfswinkel: Striker, £8.5m from Sporting Lisbon
  • Martin Olsson: Left-back, undisclosed fee from Blackburn
  • Carlo Nash: Goalkeeper, free transfer from Stoke
  • Leroy Fer: Midfielder, undisclosed fee from Twente
  • Gary Hooper, £5m from Celtic.
That is one hell of a summer for Chris Hughton.

Started the year 2-2 against Everton, I'll take the point against them any time even though we beat them at Carrow Road last year. Everton had more possession but not a ton more shots. The Wolf tied it in the 71st minute. We only had him and Redmond playing of our 7 summer signings, as Hooper was out with a bruised shin suffered in friendlies and Fer is suspended until next week.

1-1-1 so far on the season. Really bad loss at Hull despite them having only 10 men for most of the match, which was extremely frustrating. But 1-0 over Southampton at home for our first win of the season, with Nathan Redmond scoring the only goal. Good to finally grab three points, because the schedule gets more difficult coming up: Tottenham, Aston Villa, Stoke, Chelsea, Arsenal.

Bottom 3, and going to Arsenal next weekend.

Not gonna get better just yet. After all the money we spent this summer, all the new signings, all the excitement...we're terrible.

From what I've seen, Norwich should be too good to go down.  There's plenty of attacking talent and the keeper is solid.  With Palace and Sunderland apparently terrible, your competition is really for 18th.  I haven't seen anything from Stoke to tell me they're better than Norwich, and Cardiff is still only a point ahead despite looking like they're playing over their heads.  It won't be a great year pushing for a miracle Europa League place, but you shouldn't be sweating relegation on the last day of the season.

If your lot wants to come to the Etihad and play every weekend we'd be completely OK with that.  36 or so against Norwich and a couple of Derby matches a season to up our GD

Super duper effort by Norwich in the second half - looked like the halftime talk was inspiring. Totally different club in the second 45.

Obviously the story of the day yesterday was Suarez. Nothing more can possibly be said about him except clearly Norwich have personally offended him at some point. Our defending of him was abominable.

Hughton's on the hot seat. Our away form is horrid and we're losing by huge margins on the road. And it was puzzling in the extreme why he left Hooper on the bench yesterday. I understand the injuries are severe (Snodgrass, Pilkington, Wolf, Tettey are all out) but the defending and overall form have not been EPL level lately.

Upcoming fixtures are these:

West Brom (A)
Swansea (H)
Sunderland (A)
Fulham (H)
Man U (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

I would say we need 10 points at the least from these matches for Hughton to avoid getting sacked. And frankly he might get the boot anyway.

Huge win at West Brom today, 2-0 despite getting badly outshot and outpossessed most of the match. Looked like we wanted to pack it in after Hooper scored to go up 1-0, and then Fer got the insurance goal on a very late counter-attack. Probably somewhat lucky to get 3 points today instead of one, but I'll take it as will Chris Hughton.
