Curve over the outside. He could have pulled that more, maybe...
My sphincter is squeezing one out right now.
Time for redemption Zimm, already stranded 4 with 2 outs tonight.
Or, the gapper, which it looked like off the bat.
Four dimensional eats, shoots and leaves
He must be hoping the Cubs score a bunch of runs so he doesn't have to use him for all 7 outs. Otherwise, that's really pushing it.
He hasn't pitched 2 full innings all season
I mean, this might fall in line with "use your best reliever in the highest leverage spot", then use someone else later.
Hey TBS, update your scoreboard graphic to show runs in the half inning we're in.
Maddon’s using him in the highest leverage situation. Hard not to respect that. Use a lesser reliever in the 9th, that’s fine.
I'm assuming he's not counting on Davis for 7 outs but what do I know?
Yeah, there is no way. It's probably Justin Wilson in the 9th.
I find myself seriously rooting for the Nats.
That’s Kenley Jansen territory, I think.
That Harper AB was their chance. And he barely missed it.
That might be it for the Natinals
For them when they’re behind, against them when they’re ahead.
Davis doesn't fuck around
Nope, not once for Kenley this season.
It's Goose Gossage territory.
I hate Joe Maddon, but good for him there.
Much as I like the saber save usage for Wade Davis, I'm just concerned about who they have left, although more by quantity than quality of players: Justin Wilson and John Lackey. If this gets tied or if you have the winning run on base, how can you really count on either for a sustained time? Realize both of those are varying degrees unlikely, but it does strike me as concerning.
You’re right. I was thinking of the playoff game last year when Jansen came on in the 7th inning, but Kershaw actually finished it for the save.
This game is crazy insane.
now Davis can't find the zone...
Last 7+ out postseason save was under Maddon, I guess that should be considered here? That was Chapman in Game 5 of the World Series, who went the last 2.2, on 42 pitches, although that was only the second of this century.
We want Lackey.
And this is why managers fear the "closer in the highest lev" situation.
Still no one warming. I think Wilson and Horseface should probably be getting loose
brutal from Lind. brutal.
The way Davis is going if he does get all 7 outs he's likely to have thrown an awful lot of pitches by then. - Well that double play certainly helps.
Lind has one job and failed at it badly
just the only thing you cant do in that situation.
back to back walks and a cold pinch hitter swings away at the first pitch, awful
Jeez. You gotta take a few pitches there.
Thanks for coming, Adam.
You can tell Darling was going to say Royals for Davis, which would be accurate by matchups but not division, heh.
And Lind, wow, you can't be that undisciplined. Unbelievable. What a swing of things, good play or not.
LOL - Jerry Lane's face may have saved a run!
Was Lind thinking he couldn't throw strikes so swing at the first pitch a get me over pitch? That was season endingly bad
Hey that bald headed trainer for the Nats - wasn't he with The Sox?
that guarantees Harper will get another AB.
The plot thickens
I am not a Nats fan, but they're killing me in this game.
Can't imagine how I'd feel if this were the Sox missing all these opportunities.
Michael who is a tailor with a clutch hit!
this game is insane
At the very least now they'll have the big hitters up in the ninth.
Salvaged the inning a bit there
Lane, besides getting clocked there, has had a good night.
