I'm not gonna lie, I defected to the Mavs in that game. I want Playoffs Dirk. I was sure the Mavs were gonna pull that out in the fourth quarter, and then they pooched it in OT.

I don't quite get that play they were supposed to run at the end. It has to be a lob that gets tapped in?

Correct.  with .1 on the clock, its not enough time to get a shot off so a tip in is about the only thing that goes.

Regarding the Mavs, its amazing when you look at their roster, how thin they really are.  Its Dirk and Monta and then a bunch of mediocrity.  As a side note, this brilliant, well-argued piece proves, definitively, that Monta Ellis is better than Steph Curry.  Stupid Warriors, they should have kept Ellis and traded Curry instead.  Rich in fiber!!!!

Can't we have our cake and eat it too? Dallas, Golden State and the surprising Suns in the playoffs with Memphis just missing the cut. You know if Stern was commissioner he would make it happen...

I like Memphis too (and the T-Wolves to a lesser extent). The first round of the West playoffs should be the best first round ever. Such a loaded conference.

Just going to go ahead and predict this now: Charlotte is going to beat Indiana in the first round, if that turns out to be the matchup. Indiana's been terrible offensively for two months, only better than Philly over that period, and Charlotte has a good defense. Everybody is still out there touting the inevitable Indiana-Miami ECF, but I think, currently, Toronto, Chicago, and Brooklyn would all be favored in a series against them, and everybody else would have a solid chance of beating them. They've really fallen off.

San Antonio is 0-4 against OKC and 59-13 against the rest of the league, Pop has to be secretly hoping the Clippers take out OKC before he has to deal with them.

The Raptors put on a good show. Not a super full building, but knowledgeable fans (even if they thought Nando de Colo is a good player).

The Knicks play defense as if it is optional against Miami. They had a chance to make a statement win against Miami, but they seem more interested in staring down the Miami bench after made baskets than guarding anybody.

Hawks are smoking the Pacers 49-20 in Indy. The Heat's only competition has completely imploded. Seriously, what the fuck has happened to this team?

I think something terrible has happened to that locker room. A team with that much talent, it has to be. This is more than just a bad stretch of play.

Hibbert came out late after halftime and the GM was on the team's bench to start the third. WTF happened?

As a non-dominant white person, I feel offended and hurt.  Mostly because I didn't get to see his original tweet.  The Plumlees are like thinner, basketball versions of the Molinas.

"Contact which occurs on the hand of the offensive player, while that hand is in contact with the ball, is legal."

That is what the NBA rule book says, Brooklyn didn't steal shit.

The other part of the Plumlee block play that isn't being discussed is that it happened with 2 seconds left once Brooklyn rebounded the ball.

LeBron could have tried to foul a Net, sent him to the line and then had enough time on the clock to set up a winning/tying attempt with seconds left.

But he didn't.

He bitched at the refs and let the game end in a loss.

Asshole.

where the darn libs live
Let me be clear -- they won, and they won according to the rules.

That said, they stole one --- any time you can get out of Miami, winning by a single point, and with the ball in LeBron's hands to end the game, you've stolen one.

Lost:  Quincy Miller's ankles.  Last seen at Oracle Arena on April 10th around 8 pm PT.  If found, please contact Brian Shaw at the Denver Nuggets home office.

Meanwhile, Sox and Rocks boys are giving the Warriors all they can handle in Oakland tonight.  The Golden State Warriors are your classic play-to-the-level-of-their-competition squad.

And Denver beats Golden State at home 100-99.  The Warriors are, perhaps, the most maddening team in the NBA.  Mozgov had 29 boards.  He is a mega-beast.

Didn't even stay up for the end.  That's how invested I am in the Nuggets this year (as opposed to last year).  Hoping for a high lotto pick, and we will have two lotto tickets with the Knicks pick, too, assuming they miss the playoffs.

Mozgov is a beast.  One of the reasons Karl was fired was for not playing him enough.

Speaking of Karl, there's a local rumor that he may be coaching the Warriors next year...

Obama was in NYC speaking at an Al Sharpton event today. Afterwards Obama is glad handing with the crowd and Spike Lee yells at him: YOU'RE NOT GETTING CARMELO! True story.

Interesting,   Though while I am sure this rumor is circulating, I really doubt the Warriors will bring Karl in.  First, the organization is clearly looking for something different (e.g. their willingness to hire Jackson) so I think they will likely look for someone a bit more advanced than a re-tread like Karl.  Furthermore, they just committed all this dough to Iguodala - and by all accounts there is no love lost between him and Karl after last season.  If Karl is coaching anywhere, I don't think it will be Oakland...

To summarize what was lost over the weekend, I will try to recap the posts in this thread.

First, someone yesterday noted that Evan Turner was playing well for the Pacers over OKC (sorry I forgot who it was).

I then noted that the Trailblazer/Warrior game was fantastic.  Curry went for 47 (16-29 including 7-14 from three point range) but the Blazers beat the Dubs in OT 119-117 after an Andre Iguodala three pointer clanked off of back iron.  I observed that we should get used to match-ups like this in the West with such a deep field.  Every night will be a war.  NWSoxfan also commented that the Blazers/Warriors game was great and that Portland tried to give the game away at several points but ultimately hung on despite a hot Steph Curry.

Then, SamRayNot commented that Curry, who is averaging 23+ PPG and  8+ assists is on track to join only three other players who have been able to do this for a full season.  Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan & LeBron James, each of whom only did it once in their respective careers.  SRN then challenged anyone to explain why Curry isn't an elite player and even suggested that he might be in the top three of MVP voting this season.

Incidentally - and probably to show any doubters who is the Motherfucking Boss, Steph Curry went for 32 points again tonight (7-13 from three point land) and 15 assists as the Warriors won their 50th game and clinched the sixth seed in the West.  Now they wait to see who they face in round one - OKC or the Clippers.

... and Draymond scored 20 points on 9 shots, with 12 boards, 5 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks and a tidy +27.

I'm not sure I've seen such a high hoops IQ in a second-year player.

Bogut out with a cracked rib probably kills their hopes of knocking off the Clips or OKC, but man, Lee-Green-Iguodala-Thompson-Curry will be a hella fun unit to watch.

32 and 9 from Z-Bo gets Memphis into the playoffs, ending a wildly entertaing run from Phoenix. Sad to see such a good team get nixed while the East is filled with teams like Charlotte, who won a game tonight where they designed a play where Chris Douglas Roberts took the last shot. IDK about you guys, but I think a rule should be enacted that states "Any team that attempts to win a game by desiging a play for Chris Douglas-Roberts shall be prohibited from playoff competition." I mean seriously, lets do the right thing here...

Anyways, one last shout out to Gerald Green, who's 2013-14 season of in-game dunking was basically the equivilant of Wilt's 1961-62 season for scoring.
