Only real difference I see between these and the 1998-2008 era road jerseys, besides the Sox on the sleeves, is the lack of a red piping line at the end of the shirt sleeve.
I like the red jerseys simply because it's one of their main colors. Red jersey/white pants is a great look for a team so I hope they keep that going. But the navy jersey just looks hideous and the kind they went with made them look like a cheap spring training jersey or a BP top.John Marzano Olympic Hero said:I like the change too. I never got used to the Red Sox with the blue letters. Which is weird because that's the era I became a fan (the 80s).
This really bugs me on this jersey and the home jersey too. I like the piping line on the shirt sleeve.
And like RedOctober, I hope that they're ditching the blue away jerseys and I'll take it a step further, I hope they lose the red home ones too.

Rudi Fingers said:Since there is no piping on the sleeves, I'm thinking that they are also going to leave the red piping off the pants (in comparison to the 1998-2008 pants with the red piping).

Three or four? Nah. One of the things JWH & Co. will have learned from FSG's ownership of Liverpool is just how many people will buy the jersey if there's a change every single year. Just hope whomever designed the below is kept far away from the Sox uniform designs.
Personally, I get pissed when visiting teams don't have names on backs. As if I'm supposed to know every player by sight? I think it's almost arrogant leaving names off road jersies.RedSoxFan said:Would have liked to see the names removed from the road jerseys as well, but this is definitely an improvement.

Maybe the reason people here don't like names on backs is because if they buy a Sox jersey they want no name but just a number on it?

The names on these new road jerseys make perfect sense. The 2009-2013 road jerseys were supposed to be some sort of throwback to the 80s style shirts, and the presence of the names on the backs combined with all the other elements of them made them look even worse.

Wasn't the story that the reason why the Sox went to a new road uniform was that one of the owners (I think it was Werner) liked the way the Red Sox road uniform looked during a Turn Back the Clock night against the Padres and had the new away unis commissioned to look like them?

But there's no precedent for yearly changes to the jerseys in MLB. In the EPL it's expected, and it's one of the ways supporters can help the clubs directly, as I don't think they have the revenue-sharing of merchandise that MLB has here.
I don't think (and I really hope they don't) they're planning on switching up jerseys every couple of years. I really don't think the fans would go for that.
Orel Miraculous said:I for one loved the road blues of 3 reasons:
1. History. The blues have been with the team much longer history than the reds. Ted Williams hit .400 in blue. Yaz won the triple crown in blue. Clemens won the Cy Young in blue. It visually ties the history of the club together.
2. Symmetry. I liked the symmetry and distinction of red at home and blue on the road. I thought it did a great job showcasing each of the teams two main colors and creating home and road identities.
3. Aesthetic balance. When they first reintroduced the blues, they wore them with blue undershirts and the whole package looked fantastic. Blue letters, blue hats, and blue sleeves made for a very pleasing, unified look. They bowed to fan pressure and switched to red sleeves and that cluttered the look, but had they stuck to the all blue look, it would've eventually been embraced.
People complained that they looked like the Yankees on the road. Whatever. This is our century. Had we stuck with the blue undershirts, in 100 years the complaint would be the other way around.Spacemans Bong said:
Was there really a fan backlash over blue undershirts? I feel like going to red at all, even in the home uniforms, was fixing a problem that didn't really need to be solved. It does look good at home, with the exception of the socks, but it's a red overload after a while. It actually looks dated to me.
It was more the Blue Sox which made NO sense and DID look like the Yankees. I do like the 80's blue, though....which is surprising because there weren't good memories for me with them wearing them.Orel Miraculous said:People complained that they looked like the Yankees on the road.
