Amazing coffin corner punt by Tennessee, so Georgia has to go 99.5 yards in 1:48.

Why don't college teams spike the ball after a first down?  I don't understand it.  For example, Georgia gets a first down, and the clock stops with 52 seconds left.  Instead of lining up and spiking it as soon as the play is ready, and probably losing a second or two, they decide to get set and run a play, and they don't end up snapping it until there is about 38 seconds left.  I just saw the same thing over and over again in the Wisconsin/Nebraska game.  It costs them 8-10 seconds on each play.  It's not like they can use all four downs anyway.  If they don't get a first down with three downs, they are running out of time anyway.

If they had spiked it after each first down on this drive, instead of running plays after first downs, they'd have about 25 seconds left instead of 6.

At 52 seconds, I would prefer not to waste a down by spiking it, because there's a decent chance that you could throw three incomplete passes, and still have time for a 4th down play with about 20 seconds left.  But with under 30 seconds to play, I agree with you that the clock is more important than a single down.

If you eliminated the last 30 seconds of the game, would Nebraska be undefeated right now?

Seriously, how many gut punch losses can one team have?
Texas atoned for the few there had this season today.

I still beau eve Mchigan wins the Bg 12. Won't surprise me at all if they find themselves on the NCG, really.

I might agree with you at 52 seconds if they weren't on their own 12 yard line or so.  If they have to use four plays from their own 12 yard line to get a first down starting at the 52 second mark, chances are they aren't going the length of the field, and I think the extra 10 seconds or so there is much more important.

@DellengerAdv: #LSU RB Leonard Fournette says the NCAA will not allow him to auction his jersey for the SC flooding relief. "Violation," he said.

Kind of like a no-hitter but more extreme...as soon as you acknowledge a lead or even feel positive about a Hogs game, it inevitably goes south quickly after.

Following college football, and hearing nobody talk about Oregon playing a Pac 12 game is just a really weird feeling.  When was the last time they were unranked?  Like 2009 or something?

This TCU/Kansas State game is a lot of fun.  I still think TCU is going to be really exposed when they play teams with good offenses and good defenses, but in the meantime, watching these shootouts is a blast.

Just as a finish typing, KState takes a handoff about 40 yards to the house, and takes the lead 21-17,  Wildcats got it going right now.

Edit:  21-17, not 21-20

I really like what Kansas State is doing defensively.  They are basically telling TCU that they can run it anytime they want, but they aren't going to let Boykin beat them deep.  The question is does TCU have the patience to just take the 5-10 yard gimmes on the ground all day, or will they continue to force the passing game.

They've reversed this and will let him auction it after all. Sanity prevails.

That FCS team, Portland State, beat Washington State in the opener this year.  Washington State beat Oregon in overtime at Oregon, today.  College football is crazy.

Went to the Oregon game today. First time I've ever really been to a real big team non-Ivy League college football game. Beautiful day for football even though the third quarter was hit with a monsoon downpour. Crazy game ending in double OT, with the Oregon defense completely unable to make a play when it mattered. Hard to win when you have no defense and no QB. Oregon ran for over 400 yards and still lost.

Had a great time. Tremendous atmosphere.

5 picks thrown by Goff now.

9 turnovers in the game so far.  6 by Cal and 3 by Utah.  Ugly game

You have to love the kid.  He is just one of those special college football players.
Yep.  Just watched the second half of the TCU game on tape.  What a treat.  Boykin and Fournette are must-watch players.
