As this is empirical proof that DeJesus is correct in his valuation of Barnes you’re swimming against the tide here. ;)
Barnes is better than Jackson. There is no empirical proof and you are only calling it that because it supports your opinion.

I could come up with "proof" James Young is better than Michael Jordan.

I would think that the use of the emoticon would make it sufficiently clear that I was making a joke about Divac’s propensity for handing out awful contracts to bad players. You may need to get your sarcasm meter repaired.

I don't have strong thoughts on Jackson or Barnes really, but Barnes and Jackson do grade out roughly comparable in a variety on Plus/Minus type metrics, and their box score equivalents. This obviously doesn't account for fit, but it's at least plausible to me that this is a lateral move.

I think it's a meh move for the Kings and awesome for Dallas when everything is considered. I don't see how the move will impact the Kings negatively in the mid or long term. Maybe the rest of the season.

I don't know how you can knock the Kings for taking a chance on Harrison Barnes. They've been desperate to find a big wing who can slot in minutes at the three, but also slide to the four in their smaller line-ups and handle defensive assignments against KD, PG, etc. He's not a star, but he can eat up minutes and the acquisition cost was basically nothing, as Randolph hadn't played a minute this season and Jackson is nothing more than a guy. If he works out they'll extend him at a lower number, and if not they'll have a $25MM expiring to use next deadline.

The acquisition cost was cap space; they lost their ability to be a team that took on cap space in exchange for functional assets. It was a good move for the Kings insofar as it stops them from doing something even sillier like maxing Tobias Harris in the offseason, but whether Barnes is an upgrade over Jackson or not, his contract is almost entirely dead money, and they didn't get anything back in exchange for taking it on.

I think at best they were getting a late first rounded (like Cleveland got for eating Brandon Knight's contract) and I don't think that's tangibly different than a year and a half of Harrison Barnes, especially since making the playoffs appears to be their primary goal. If there were better deals out there then yes I agree, but they've been trying to rent that cap space for assets all year and haven't found a deal that they liked.

debate is healthy for a board

A playoff veteran like Barnes probably helps Sacramento as they make a push for the playoffs. A new scenario may motivate him to play harder on the defensive end. Dallas is at a different stage and adding JJ as a cheap bench piece is a great move along with getting some flexibility in the off-season. Win-win for both clubs.
Maybe I shouldn't tell you this but when I first read your post, I saw "Baynes," not "Barnes." You have us mesmerized.

Shams Charania reporting that the Sixers have acquired James Ennis from the Rockets for a future 2nd round pick. He'll be a nice bench addition for them and gives them the flexibility to be a little more picky when the buyout market rolls around.

I think this is the first time I've ever read a report where someone was traded and they didn't bother saying where to.
This has been a really awesome deadline so far. 2 hours 15 minutes until the celebration...

Bucks really going for it. That’s a steal. Celts might need to do something as the teams around them are getting better & it was going to be tough enough to beat them before these moves.

Fake reddit got me. A new post said we traded Jaylen, Smart for Bradley Beal and I thought I was going to pass out

There’s really nothing we can do. Our assets need to be held til summer.

PM forthcoming with game logs later this evening. I also value data over opinions.

And I thought the plan was great because Vlade is going to use Barnes expiring to trade for someone. Now you say he will extend Barnes? That's makes it even worse if its correct. Just when it seems that Sacramento was turning a corner too.
I ran a BRef Play index for shots JJ has taken in the 4Q. Rough proxy for sure but the theory is that if JJ is playing crunch time minutes in close games, he'll have a shot attempt to show it.

Here's the link: http://bkref.com/tiny/33fKJ

At any rate, as of this year, in games where the margin was less than 10 points (either way), the suchg games in which JJ recorded one or more 4Q shot attempts were:

1.25 v MEM (0-3);
1.22 v TOR (0-1);
1.14 v POR (0-1; note this shot occurred at 11:38 so not really crunch time);
1.8 v PHO (0-1);
1.5 v GSW (4-6 but 3-3 from 3P land)
1.3 v DEN (0-1; shot at 9:39 remaining);
1.1 v SAC (0-2; 1 shot at 10:32 and 1 shot at 5:54 remaining)

Man, some GMs must be super smooth and easy to deal with. The Bucks turned Thon Maker and 2nd round picks into Mirotic. Even as a pending FA that's a crazy low return.

Ridiculous spacing now around Giannis with Bledsoe, Brogdon, Middleton, and now Mirotic.
Really? I thought MIL already had big spacer with Lopez.

Looking at this season's stats: Lopez is shooting .388 on 6.5 3PA/g; Mirotic shooting .368 on 7.2. Mirotic is better rebounder; Lopez is better shot blocker.

I guess MIL will mix and match but does this really move the needle?

I think in the playoffs it's big to have another big man that is a floor spacer.

Nate's BIG story from a couple hours ago was that the Warriors had "become" big title favorites over the last few weeks. (And then he actually deleted the tweet, as he realized he had erroneously added OKC's 7% title shot to GSW's 61%, lolz).

You realize they can play Brook at the 5 and Mirotic at the 4, right? It's just going to be wide open lanes all day for Giannis. Milwaukee has the chance to be scary good after this deal. Eastern Conference playoffs are going to be wild.
