Philly is crushing it. No compunction. Doing what needs to be done. Respect.
I'm surprised there wasn't more of a market for Hawes. Granted, he's hurt a lot, but when healthy he's effective and it's not like there's a ton of quality bigs out there.

Two month rental with unrestricted free agency on the other end of it.

The Sixers have nine second-round picks. That's a lot of bullets.

Don't they owe a couple?

RealGM hasn't updated their page yet, but I'm not getting to nine. Theirs + Brooklyn + Houston + Miller trade + Hawes trade = 7... Then subtract OKC and Houston, and we're at 5. What picks did I forget?

Finally - since they won't actually keep all the guys they draft on their team or in D-League, isn't this guaranteeing 2-3 young FAs after training camp?

I think Humphries is a fallback piece for a lot of teams. Aside from that I don't think teams are motivated to pay much for the Likes of Brandon Bass.

Me too. I would hope Danny would take a deal that would make the team worse this season.

Not sure. Matt Moore was saying it.

Miller trade is actually 2, Denver and Washington. So that's one more. Not sure the total amount though.

Hawes trade was supposedly 2 as well (not sure which two from Cleveland). So that would get them to 9, before subtracting those they need to send out of course.

EDIT: Looking at the original post, looks like they had counted both trades as 2, getting to the number of 7.

No clue where 9 comes from then.

I'm not real sure about the deadline. Is it like MLB where deals get announced up to an hour after the fact?

Yeah, I counted Miller and Hawes as 2 each. Still get 5, after all is said and done.

Fallout from the Steve Blake trade. Hey, the Celts could now use a backup 2 guard, right? ;)

The two that Philly owes - to OKC and to HOU - are not going to be conveyed. The one owed HOU is protected 31-55, and the one owed OKC is protected 31-50 and 55-60 (or something like that). Since Philly will be in the lottery, neither pick will be conveyed, and the "debt" is retired.

Still, it's 7 and not 9. But it's the NBA so who knows.

Good job, good effort Danny.

Edit: Yeah, I'm pissed at Danny. But the problem is the league. How many trades were made today? Like I always say, "Greatest players in the world in the worst league of the world."

New cba is a nightmare. Gone are the days of big trades at the deadline. Its becoming glaringly evident everyone is going down the no repeater tax/stockpile picks route. What a blah deadline

Isn't this how pretty much every deadline goes? The only time big players move, it's when they're pending free agents and force their way out a la Carmelo/Deron. Otherwise though, the list of "big" deadline deals isn't really all that impressive. Almost always tends to be a bunch of veteran role players.

Indiana has traded Danny Granger to Philadelphia, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

The NFL is the only less active deadline. The Green-Perkins trade is one of the only recent significant surprise deadline deals that I can remember.

Surprised Bass wasn't moved for a couple of expirings but his contract isn't a capbuster or anything and can still be useful this summer. If summer '15 really is the target to make things happen (which I think it should be), then it may be reasonable to just keep Bass' deal through then anyway.

Evan Turner, like Jrue Holiday before him, is secretly bad as a starter. He might be useful in a reduced role however.

The Celtics weren't out-tanking Philly anyway.  No big deal.

I'm not disappointed that the Celtics stood pat, except that I would have liked to see Bass moved.  None of the rumored deals involving Rondo made sense to me.

I'm a little surprised that Asik wasn't moved.  I guess that huge salary next year scared teams away.

Agreed. I think his role backing up the 1-3 and not being asked to do too much offensively will render him very useful.

I gotta give props to Philly for sticking to their guns.

I wish a lot of parts were moved today for the C's, but Danny knows better than me.

Every time I see Lavoy Allen's name I flashback to all the Breengasms during the Conference Semifinals. Breen loved that guy in his rookie year. THE GREAT LAVOY ALLEN MAKES ANOTHER GREAT PLAY! WHAT A WONDERFUL YOUNG PLAYER! Suck it Breen, never stop sucking it.

What does philly think it knows about 2nd round picks?

Granted that with a stellar draft the second round this year is probably a bit better than usual but you can't draft 12 guys! Er right?

I got to say philly is showing how to do being bad. Fans bought in, two decent blocks in place two picks coming to back them up and ten scrubs? I guess

I guess Philly thinks they can learn a ton about these guys in post-draft workouts, so they can figure out who to cut then.

And a ton of cap space. I wouldn't be surprised to see them use those picks to stash some Euros. They can grab the rights to guys like Bogdonovich, Gentile, and others who may not be over for a while.

Someone on the BTF NBA thread pointed out, the 76ers had a bunch of second round picks last year:

35: draft glenn rice jr.
trade glenn rice jr to washington for picks 38 and 54.
38: draft nate wolters
trade nate wolters to milwaukee for pick 43 and future 2nd round pick
42: draft pierre jackson
pierre jackson traded to new orleans in jrue holiday/nerlens noel deal
43: draft ricky ledo
trade ricky ledo to dallas for future 2nd round pick
54 draft arselan kazemi

Not a trade per say but Big Baby got bought out.

Rumor is he goes to L.A. when he clears waivers.

My only disappointment is that the Celtics didnt/couldn't eat someone else's 2-year deal in exchange for another draft pick.

The Clippers?  The Lakers don't make much sense.   Personally, I'd love to see him come to Golden State to be another rotation big.  But you guys probably knew I would say that...
