Hah! The Myers run in the Modified Series and this was the Sportsman. You tend to see fewer wreck in the Modifieds, but Jason Myers was involved in one with Tim Brown, the other top driver in the Modifieds, this same night that helped his brother win.
IIRC there was an article/video about the rivalry between Brown and the Myers.

Almindinger should be stripped of that finish for what he did on the final lap. Brutal to see Larson potentially knocked out of the Chase on that garbage.

Big scoring changes coming:
http://pilotonline.com/sports/auto-racing/nascar-announces-dramatic-changes-to-race-and-playoff-formats-for/article_6b193fe6-8182-5342-9af0-c6086878b294.html

The overhaul announced Monday assigns three stages to every race. The top 10 drivers at the end of Stage 1 and Stage 2 will be awarded points on a 10-through-1 scale. The third portion of the race will be for the overall victory, and although traditional point scoring will be applied for that stage, the win will be worth 40 points. The rest of the field will be scored on a 35 to 2 scale, and positions 36th to 40 will only receive 1 point.

Dale Jr to retire after this season.

I don't watch NASCAR, but would root for JR after he carried the weight of the sport after his dad died. Plus, his name was dropped in one of my favorite YouTube clips of all time.

This was the most recent thread I found on a quick scan, apologies if there's a 2018 thread I missed. Anyway:

I've been of the opinion that France is a terrible steward of the sport since back when I was still a regular fan, I'm less than hopeful this sort of thing will lead to the end of his family's iron grip on power, but maybe it will at least motivate people around him to move him out in favor of the next heir in the line of succession.

Race attendance and TV audiences are dropping off a cliff (https://www.forbes.com/sites/davecaldwell/2018/05/02/stock-car-fans-continue-racing-away-from-nascar/).

Does NASCAR become like IndyCar or whatever in a decade, ie completeiy irrelevenr aside from one race a year? Are major sponsors starting to back out yet?

Some sponsors have backed out. Jimmy Johnson’s sponsor Lowe’s is out next year last I saw. I think Monster energy paid a lot less than NASCAR was expecting for the series.

I never watched but my son is into it and that has me watching portions of the races every week. I don’t mind it.

There are fundamentals that are still fine, close racing with lots of bumping and screaming V8s at full song is fun. But the samey races, samey drivers, megateams, chaotic schedule, and problematic culture are all dragging it down.

I've tuned out nascar for 10 years or so. It just isn't fun to watch anymore. I was a Bill Elliott fan and managed to tune in during the lean McDonald's years. I disagree with most everyone on a major point. They say it's all about the car and the setup now and not the driver. The cars are the same mostly now. Horse power won a lot of races in the 80s and early 90s. So it's hard to understand why people say it used to be about the drivers. To me it was the car back when

yeah i have tuned in a touch here and there to see what he's doing but i haven't sat and watched one thru in a long while. Having kids in sports doesnt help. Racing used to be a all day drinking, cooking event.!!
