    SCOUTING REPORT

“Brannen stands out most with his well above-average speed. It enhances his chances of getting on base, makes him a threat to steal once he does and allows him to cover a lot of ground in center field. He has good instincts and takes direct routes in the outfield, and his average arm is better than most at his position.

“Brannen can do more than run, too. The Georgia Southern recruit has a compact left-handed swing with solid bat speed and more pop than the typical speedster. He has a realistic ceiling of hitting .270 with 15 homers and 30 steals per season.” – MLB.com.

    I like.

Man, I might be misremembering but this seems like a really slow thread. Did I miss another draft thread somewhere?

It would be nice if on a couple he tried to the other way.

Houck delivery looks almost identical to Scherzer.

When I was younger and studying prospects violent deliveries were very much discussed. You just didn't want to touch those guys. Now, after seeing another decade of pitching, I'm much more in the camp of draft the swing and miss. All of these guys are injuries risks. All of them. No reason to miss on a Sale or a Scherzer cause it doesn't look pretty.

He's a redshirt Junior. At 23 he would probably see some time in Greenville after CWS.

All three position players so far are LHB, all four pitchers are RHP.

Nope you are not wrong. The draft thread use to be very lively and the best part was, there always seemed to be a couple posters who had a ton of knowledge of the kids that were drafted by the Sox. This actually seems to be something going on all over SOSH as of late and it is a bit worrisome. Some of the game threads only have six pages and the main board seems to not have many new threads created.

The main board is now full of game threads, the game threads are full of petulant children, and the .com is pretty much where all the focus is. The Minor League stuff here used to be tremendous.

Great. Any conventional wisdom on why he was available for a little extra while? Did people think he was committed to college?

The dot com is awesome, but I miss the immediacy of the message board when something like the draft is going on. Maybe next year the dot com can do some sort of live chat or something?

Kind of a nature of the beast. Some kids give off the impression they are unsignable. And teams that are willing to oversign take a chance (Scherff). Kids like Schellenger were injured.

Whatever happended to PhillySoxFan? I used to love his in depth analysis and almost encyclopedia like memory of Red Sox draft picks. He put together a spreadsheet of Red Sox draft picks from the 1960s until 2007 or 2008. I'm not sure what happended to it or him but I sure miss it.

The draft has been over for a week and we just got our first article on it on the dot com. I am not impressed. It used to be that SOSH was the place to go for Red Sox information. When the draft was on or the day of the trade deadline SOSH was where you wanted to be. Now It appears, though I can be wrong, that the forum is being neglected in favor of the dot com. It is especially pronounce this year. I can't remember the last time the draft thread was this dead. I can't remember the last time there was so little chatter in the main board. I am kind of at the point where I am going elsewhere for my Sox news and given that SOSH has been a part of my life for over ten years now that makes me sad. I also want to add that I just read the piece on Tanner Houck. It was basically just a rehash of past drafts and the conclusion that we have no idea what we are getting from Houck. You mean draft picks are volatile? Who knew? I would love some in depth analysis of Houck from Philly fan or any of the SOSH members who follow prospects.

You do realize that everyone involved, whether it's posting here or writing material for the .com, are unpaid volunteers who have jobs, family lives, and other matters to attend to? You're not impressed? Holy entitlement.

No I was not impressed with the piece on Tanner Houck or the little bit that has been written about the draft. If that makes me entitled fine. Out of curiosity if someone expresses dissatisfaction with a magazine or newspaper article do you then find them entitled? I am not interested in helping the .com out. I would like to know how I can be of service to the message board, because I feel that is were Sosh's strength was.

You're lamenting the coverage on here and the dot com, which are, again, both free offerings and completely volunteer-based, and offering nothing of substance to actually improve it. Which sounds entitled. I had pretty much the same thought Rip had before he posted.

You can be of service by adding knowledge to the board.

Thanks for the bolded, super helpful.

By the way, and this goes to everyone who thinks that the .com is part of the problem, what posters are not posting here that used to? Is it possible that Twitter, Facebook, and the rest of the internet is making .net a bit less relevant than it used to be?

To help out, here are the posters that do work for the .com: Cuzitt, absinthemalaise, Snodgrass'Muff, JesusQuintana, TheTaxMan, StupendousMan, iayork, soxfan121, makman, FarvinMoosy, toekneearmass, Delonte James Jr., tharkin, soxhop, and marbleheader. (sorry if I missed anyone)

Who out of that list are posting less than they did pre .com that are killing this site?
