Cleared like $600K today. McQuaid+ Looch 2.7= 5.4. Looch in total was $6 million. Jones needs a deal too.

Cap space hasn't been cleared and they have 2 more NHL roster spots to fill.

Wait, let me sum this up. Not only did they not make themselves better in the short-term with these deals, but they in no way managed to improve their cap situation at all?

I can't...

Well they got legitimate assets back for Lucic.

How quickly did McQuaid's agents have him sign that contract? "Here you go, sign it, nope, we trust you guys, it looks good, SIGN RIGHT HERE ADAM...."

Normally in any negotiation you meet somewhere in the middle depending of course on leverage.  I'd love to know what # each side opened with and how they came to that conclusion.

I don't even want to tell you that his name is fucking Adam because I want to pretend they actually signed someone named Andrew McQuaid who might not actually suck.

What are the chances Sweeney never changed the passwords on his computer and Chia is just making all these deals as revenge.

Adam, we'd like to keep you here, how does 2 years at 1.5 each sound?
Pretty good, I could probably get more but I like it here and Boston...
Okay, we'll make it 3 at 2?
Hey, that sounds great. As I was saying I've really enjoyed...
Okay, 3 at 2.5
Really? Wow, this is great. But it's really not about the money. I'm thrilled to be here and look ...
*sigh* We can go to 4 at 2.75 per but that's our last offer

Milan Lucic: “The most exciting part about moving on from Boston is going to a team that knows how to win."

I think he meant that if he's gonna get traded then he's happy he's going to a team that knows how to win.

If he's insinuating that the Bruins didn't know how to win, well then fuck that shit. That's on him.

Considering he's the guy that said he and the rest of the Bruins weren't able to cope with the loss of Boychuk last season, I think he needs to be crystal clear on this.

I don't mind the Lucic deal as I don't think he's going to age well and he's slow. But this deal isn't in a vacuum.

Yeah I basically like the Lucic deal.   It still is beyond stunning they got significantly more for Lucic than they did for Hamilton

Although if they don't do anything with the logjam of goalies they now have then that downgrades this deal

Lucic to Kings before the Manchester Monarchs pack up and head west? Keep a local player or two?

Interesting tidbit on Colin Miller that'll probably only interest me- He won the hardest shot (104.6 mph) and fastest skater competitions at the AHL ASG last year. You usually don't see those two skills paired together.

Classy move, makes me wonder if what many fans assumed was laziness was really just the game taking its toll on Lucic. Perhaps one too many broken noses made it difficult to breathe affecting his conditioning more than we will ever know.

I will never wish him ill except for when he's playing the Boston Bruins.

And if I run into him, I'll say thanks for being part of a team that got me back into hockey. The Montreal knockout and subsequent lockout made for a tough few years, but it's been a blast the last several and going forward.

Agreed.  And I honestly think many of us will miss him more than we realize, though I have agreed from the start it was a necessary evil.

I agree. I think there's a strong likelihood he has a fantastic walk-year with the Kings. It will still be a helluva deal by Sweeney though. Win-win.

An update from Pierre LeBrun, who interviewed Lucic about his time with the Kings...
Some highlights
There's a happiness in Milan Lucic's voice that carries through the phone line three time zones.

It's genuine.

Life as a Los Angeles King could absolutely not be any better. On and off the ice, the former Boston Bruins star is now in a good place.

"Once I settled in, I just loved everything about it," Lucic said Wednesday.

He loves where he and his family live in Manhattan Beach, loves the daily routine, loves his team.
Even the extra travel as a West Coast team doesn't bog him down.

"Obviously the travel is different and the road trips are longer, but the thing I enjoy is that even though we're on the road longer, we're also at home longer, we have longer home stands," Lucic said. "That's nice with the kids, get to spend pretty good quality time with my children."

Lucic says his wife and two daughters, ages 3 years old and 8 months old, have adjusted very well to life in L.A.

Again, the joy in his voice just describing his daughter's preschool comes through candidly.

"She loves her preschool. She does tennis, soccer, drama, hip-hop dancing, baking, she really, really enjoys it," Lucic said with a chuckle.

It's been a long road back for the 27-year-old Vancouver native, who was traded in June from Boston. The death of his father in April -- which Lucic revealed in November in a "Hockey Night In Canada" interview was a suicide -- has obviously left scars.
"I feel like I'm in a good place mentally and I just want to stay there."
And in a perfect world, that would include staying with the Kings past this season after his contract runs out. The pending unrestricted free agent has seen enough of life is as a King to know he wants it to be his future.

"I hope it's here, just because of how great everything has gone and good the transition has gone," Lucic said. "I truly, truly deep down in my heart hope that I do get to remain a King after this season. Obviously there haven't really been any [contract] talks yet. They've had a lot on their plate with the Kopitar contract, but we'll just wait and see what it's going to look like moving forward. I would love nothing more than to remain a King."

You'd be surprised how much life doesn't suck when you don't ever have to deal with snow unless you want to, and the only natural disasters you have to worry about are drought and earthquakes. I'd move back to California if it made any sense at all financially.

Most of all I don't miss his future contract.

He wasn't worth the rumored AAV and term to sign him last year - he's even less worth it now. He made great contributions to this franchise, but the trade Sweeney made is really one of the best in recent memory.

Now if only we could scratch Kevan in exchange for Colin... for fuck's sakes

Someone on another board asked the other day if you would consider bringing him home to a below market 5 year contract, if he came this summer desperate to come home.

I realized at that point that I hadn't thought of him once this season and didn't even know how he was doing this year. Did look up his numbers, was weird seeing him in Kings colors. Good luck to him

So you'd rather deal with your house collapsing or brush fires, rather than paying someone to shovel, when you're a millionaire? Yeah, dude, that makes total sense. Keep going with that.

Spoken like someone who has never lived out there. :)
Yep. Never having to deal with weather below 55 degrees is something you're willing to put up with the occasional catastrophic earthquake. There are these really odd things called "seasons" in Boston where the weather gets unpleasantly warm and cold at times.

I figure you slash Milan Lucic on the wrist, you got to keep your head up for a spell after that.
I rewatched dafoomie's recap of the BERGERON! BERGERON! game, and I don't think i realized how often he'd do that sort of thing. He did it against Komisarek a few years ago too, charging after him right as Thornton engaged. There was also the Burrows thing in Game 3, him attacking Phaneuf in the aforementioned Game 7. The man doesn't believe in the old saying that revenge is a dish best served cold.

Oh, yeah- that's Milan.

As much as he can be a bully and a thug, I love it because he gets in everyone's head. He's as intimidating as anyone in the game when he's on and there's nothing you can really do.
