Well how long does he have to appeal it? He could hold off until the day of the game. I'm guessing it has to be announced within 24 hours or something tho I would assume. Which means he could wait to announce it until tomorrow night which really wouldn't give them much time to reach a decision before noon on Friday.

Sucks and seems harsh but in a way im glad they did it. Suspending the leading scorer of a team right before the biggest showcase the sport has shows that they actually are taking discipline seriously and not only when it suits them. The nfl this is not.

He's lost the benefit of the doubt at this point. It was a dumb and dangerous play that was completely unnecessary regardless of intent.

Well dammit. I think Marchand is an asshole and deserves the suspension. I'd hate that little shit if he played somewhere else but since he's on the Bruins, selfishly I want him out there because he increases their odds of winning.

Honestly I think they will. The DPS has come a long way since the days of Colin Dartboard Campbell.

Doubtful they can file the appeal without an 'expedited' response being prepped and likely more severe based on the timing said appeal is filed. And even so, he would remain suspended while the appeal is considered.

From DoPS:

Players may appeal all on-ice discipline to the Commissioner, provided written notice of the appeal is provided within 48 hours. The Commissioner will endeavor to hear all appeals on an expedited basis and will determine whether the decision was supported by clear and convincing evidence. A subsequent appeal right to a neutral arbitrator will be available for suspensions of six (6) or more games. The neutral arbitrator shall have full remedial authority in respect of the matter. The standard of review will be whether the League’s finding of violation of the League Playing Rules and the penalty imposed were both supported by substantial evidence.

In all appeals (first to the Commissioner and then to the neutral arbitrator), the Player will remain suspended pending appeal (unless the full term of the Player’s suspension has run).

The Commissioner and the neutral arbitrator may consider new evidence relating to the incident even if such evidence was not available at the time of the initial supplementary discipline hearing and decision or, in the case of an appeal to the neutral arbitrator, at the time of the Commissioner’s hearing or decision.

I was thinking the same thing. I am hoping -- foolish hope! -- that this suspension will be the one that makes Marchand finally realize he's hurting his team. Bergeron needs to read Marchand the Riot Act.
