By everyone's favorite, Brooks Oprik, nonetheless.

Millbury ripped Orpik between periods.  Basic point...this is what fighting is for...and Orpik refuses to fight.

Is it a clean hit?  Seems like he leaves his skates and extends his arm through the head to me.

It looked right on the line to me. He may not have fully launched, but he went up through his head and his back foot appeared to be coming up off the ground before/during contact. Some of it is clearly on Toews for having his head down, but it's your standard "tough-guy" Orpik hit. I'd say it's at least reckless, and that the league should look at it given his past, but I doubt he'll get suspended.

Yeah, he's okay.
Definition of "strong on his skates.". Could've gotten knocked down or fallen down about six times in that sequence. Also, pretty good concentration.

So we've got a 5 minute delay before the shootout in Nashville as the Zamboni comes out and they shovel a bunch of snow off the ice.

And Caps color commentator Craig Laughlin still blames snow on the ice for Backstrom's inability to lift the puck on the Caps' final shootout attempt.

Backstrom actually did lift the puck... just not high enough. Hutton lifted his pad off the ice a bit -- had Backstrom just slid it across the ice, it would have gone in. The Caps coughed away another huge point with the SOL. Detroit is the big winner of the day. Hopefully Columbus can stumble a bit down the stretch...

Just saw that Orpik hit on Toews. It's a big hit, but it looks clean to me. He didn't leave his feet until contact was initiated, which is natural.

Loui Eriksson watches this highlight with a big sigh of relief.

He'll get the last home start of the year, at least.  But yeah, 3 goals on 9 shots is not classically Brodeuresque.

Thankfully the new hotness pulled us out of that fire and stopped all the shots he faced.

3 points out of the last spot. We're not dead yet.

Yeah, Schneider faced some tough shots in the first 5-6 minutes he had in there.  He got up to speed quickly. They have a pretty easy schedule the rest of the way.  They just have to win most of them.

Winnipeg just gagged away a 4-0 lead late in the second period, got outshot 25-6 in the third period and all 16 seconds of overtime, and the Ducks win 5-4.

Holy crap, they were cruising.

I've actually been to 2 games where a team came back from 0-4 down. What a contrast...you come back from 0-4 against Montreal at home and the building is going nuts like they just won the Stanley Cup. You blow a 4-0 lead at home and lose and it's like a funeral.

This Flyers team is going to give anyone fits right now. I would love to see them face Pitt in the second round and knock them out.

This is just a great game. Reminds me a bit of the Tampa-Boston game 7.

lol Devils lose their 15th straight shootout in the 9th...I guess they're innings? That's what Doc called them during the olympics, at least. It went 9 rounds.

Miller sprawls across goal to deny Flyers winning goal in OT. Minute left before Oshie wins shoot out.

Oshie now 9-for-12 in shootouts this season. Lecavlier denied in first round.

Miller gloves Giroux's shot. Blues win on second SO goal.

A needed point for Philly.

Pittsburgh will be long gone before it gets to that point.

Kostka even had some of the familiar "fencing response" before he hit the ice, basically confirming the concussion. Fuck me, that's hard to watch.

Wow, that is awful.  The league better throw the fucking book at Murray.  Both intent and result were obvious in this case.

It wouldn't have been so bad if McDonough wasn't already being engaged by another Canuck. Dick play.

Also MSL finally scored, a shorty no less.

Flyers-Blues was a lot of fun. Kind of surprised Raffl didn't bury one of his glorious chances, but that's a well-earned loser point. A win at home over the Jackets on Thursday would really make things comfortable.

Also if you have digital cable free baseball likely means also free hockey this week. Dig in.
