This is coming from a place of absolute bias, but the loser point is fucking stupid. Toronto has to win out to finish with more wins than losses this season but because they lose in OT more, they are in the driver seat against the Bruins. Of course, the Bruins deserve this, but that is a stupid rule.
Yep.

In actual wins vs. loss:

Toronto is 35-39
Boston is 39-36

And the Bruins had 4 chances to beat them and couldn't manage a point. They get no sympathy from me.
I don't have much sympathy for the Bs either, but losing 4 games to the Leafs is only a small part of that - it's that they played so inconsistently throughout the course of the entire season. In other words, had they won 4 other games, the fact that they lost to the Leafs 4 times wouldn't matter.

Anyways, the rule is stupid. The team that won the more games should be in a better position to make the playoffs. Sadly, the loser point is intended to keep more teams in the hunt, so by that measure it's quite successful and I don't see it changing any time soon.

It's not really sympathy either. I just struggle with the concept that the bruins could have lost all 4 of those games but in overtime instead and be way ahead. They still lost. I don't have the answer, I'm just bitching.

Here's where we are for the remainder of the season...

BOS, TOR, TB, NYI, CAR fighting for 2 spots. B's have 6 games left, the other 3 have 7. Remaining schedules:

Toronto- @ NSH, @ DET, @ BUF, WSH, TB, PIT, CBJ

Boston- DAL, FLA, @ CHI, TB, OTT, WSH

Tampa Bay- DET, MTL, DAL, @ BOS, @ TOR, @ MTL, BUF

Islanders- @ PHI, NJ, @ BUF, @ NSH, @ CAR, @ NJ, OTT

Carolina- CBJ, DAL, @ PIT, @ MIN, NYI, STL, @ PHI

Leafs have a tough final week but there's no travel. Islanders probably have the easiest schedule, but they're traveling. Tampa's schedule is favorable, and they could be getting Stamkos back at some point. The Habs will play a role in deciding the Bolts fate. The game Tuesday is essentially a playff game for the B's and Bolts. Carolina's schedule is brutal.

The good news for the Bruins is that they're at home for 5 of 6 and they win the ROW tiebreaker with everyone.

Lots of games that affect Bruins ranking tonight.

Who to root for:

Bruins over Dallas
Columbus over Carolina
Detroit over Tampa
Philadelphia over NY Islanders
Nashville over Toronto

And Florida over Montreal, just because.

Interesting tilt last night between the Kings and Flames. Iginla is still tough as nails.
I'm not sure Mike Milbury should be the voice of appropriate responses, given how he seems to scoff at "the code" the criticize players for not . . . following the code? But this was a fun take down last night

http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2017/03/30/milbury-jones-tkachuk-walked-the-walk-kings-response-was-embarrassing/

He is at least right about one thing, Tkachuk is very self-aware. He's disinterested in changing and he's not backing down.

For reference, here is Toronto's remaining schedule
Saturday at Detroit
Monday at Buffalo
Tuesday vs. Washington
Thursday vs. Tampa
Saturday vs. Pittsburgh
Sunday vs. Columbus

Bruins schedule
Saturday vs. Florida
Sunday at Chicago
Tuesday vs. Tampa
Thursday vs. Ottawa
Saturday vs. Washington

Same number of road games left as the Bruins but I would consider the Leafs' schedule tougher. The caveat being that Pittsburgh and Columbus could be resting players if they have already clinched their spots for the first round.

Shawn Thornton still rules - his comments on Emelin with another cheap shot on Derek McKenzie and turtle in last night's game:

Don't look now but the Bruins are only 1 point out of 2nd in the Atlantic. Toronto and Ottawa are tied with 91 points(with a game in hand) and the Bruins have 90. Ottawa's 4 game losing streak has brought them back to the pack.

If the Wings didn't score there I was going to throw something. Karlsson scoring that crap goal and Zetterberg missing the open net was too much to take.
