Nolan Arenado charged the mound in today's Padres-Rockies game. Trevor Story got hit in the first. Hunter Renfro got hit in the second. Arenado was thrown behind in the third and that's when he went.

Apparently it goes back to last night and Manny Margot getting hit unintentionally and ending up going to the DL with a rib injury.

Fucking idiotic "protect my teammates" bullshit has to stop. It's ridiculous.

The end of this Braves/Nats game has been pretty fun, 2-1 ATL going to the bottom of the 9th:

Bottom 9th: Matt Adams blasts a HR to tie it at 2.
Top 10th: Inciarte gets caught stealing home to end the inning, even though going by the replays they showed, I think he was probably safe.
Top 11th: Kurt Suzuki HRs, 3-2 ATL.
Bottom 11th: Howie Kendrick doubles into the gap with two outs to score Bryce Harper, 3-3.
Top 12th: Single/single/walk/single, 5-3 ATL.

Bottom 12th starting now.

Edit: 5-3 final.

Jordan Zimmerman just took a Jason Kipnis line drive off the side of his jaw. He was down on the mound for a few minutes, and is out of the game, but he walked off under his own power with no visible blood. The ball actually ricocheted to the first baseman, so I guess that's a 1-3 ground out if you're scoring at home.

Freddie Galvis almost got into that fracas, but threw his glove at Arrenado as well and then hopped around the outside of the pack for a while...good times.

Josh Hader is tied for 26th in MLB in strikeouts by a pitcher with 17.

He's pitched 7 2/3 innings, zero starts

He's gotten 23 outs and 17 of them by way of the K

That's just an insane rate

Moving the Line
Baltimore's Chris Tillman’s has a standard statistical line of 11.1 IP this season while surrendering 15 ER, 22 hits, 10 walks, yet only three strikeouts. As I am wont to do, this got me curious: Has this happened before over the course of a full pitcher's season? Under 11.1 IP, 15+ ER, 22+ hits, 10+ walks, and fewer than three strikeouts.

The answer is a somewhat surprising yes. Although to do so, you've got to go back 89 years John Milligan of the 1929 Phillies, which tickled me pink. He is not to be confused with John 'Jocko' Milligan of the 1888 AA champion St. Louis Browns. Rather, our Cornell graduate, over 9.2 innings pitched, gave up 18 earned runs, 29 hits, 10 walks, but recorded a mere two punchouts.

Interesting that they're using him in a bullpen ace role rather than slotting him in as the closer after they lost Kneble. Instead they've slotted Jacob Barnes and now the immortal Matt Albers into the role. This is an interesting one to track for people who prefer the bullpen ace to the traditional closer.

Gerrit Cole with 14 ks last night. Crazy if he makes a leap to truly elite, along with all those players on the Astros. Scary team to face in the playoffs

Seems like MLB replay has changed this year.... watching Mets game, runner seemed pretty clearly out. Call on field was safe. Reviewed. Upheld.

I feel like they are sticking with original call unless is it COMPLETELY obvious it was the wrong call.

Nope! Hah.
for those who missed it, the runner on 1st base completely lost the ball, thought it was caught, and backed up to 1st base and Marrero ended up passing him. it ended up going as a two-run single, Marrero out for passing the runner between 1st/2nd.

I get why we moved on from him but I think he would have provided more value than Holt this season.

So. The dodgers have issues.

Which were the real dodgers? This year or last year?

Except Chris Taylor, I'd say more last year than this year. Half the team is currently operating under career low BABIP. Losing Turner is a major blow though.

Deven Marrero's OBP is lower than his Batting Average.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2770592-deven-marreros-1st-d-backs-hr-ruled-single-after-he-passes-alex-avila-on-bases
Hit a HR off Hill, but it was ruled a single b/c he passed Alex Avila on the bases as they were both befuddled about whether or not the ball had gone out.

The shot of Marrero in the dugout at the end, as he hears the verdict of the challenge, is an emblematic mlb players shot. Or perhaps it's emblematic of all disappointment everywhere.

KC @ Toronto postponed due to weather.

Top of the 8th, Mets have a 6-1 lead. DeGrom crusing. 3 pitchers later, including former closer AJ Ramos and current closer Familia and it's 8-6 Nationals.

From MLB network, in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the A's playing in Oakland, tonight's game tickets are free. Yes free.

Wild game on MLBN now, White Sox/A's, 9-8 in the 4th. Moncada has scored three times in the first four innings, one on his first career grand slam.

They seem to have quit scoring after the 9th, still 11-11 in the 14th now.

Yeah, I still have it on somehow, the two starting pitchers got seven outs combined so the bullpens are each about 13 innings deep currently.

And again I end a long game just by posting, MIN wins in the bottom of the 16th.

Kind of wrecked his outing, Barria is already pulled after 2+ and 77 pitches.

Ohtani getting steady dose of offspeed pitches now and not doing very well with it. We’ll see how he adjusts.

That Angels rotation needs names on the back and front of their jerseys to know who they are. I know they're using a 6-man rotation by design, but it took them 9 different starters just to get through the first 15 games. Matt Shoemaker made one start before landing on the DL until late May. JC Ramirez made two starts before going down for the season with TJ surgery. Parker Bridwell lasted 12 batters before getting demoted to AAA, where he's still a complete mess. This was Barrios' 2nd start, and he lasted two innings. The 6-man rotation isn't keeping their starters off the DL, and they're killing their bullpen by pitching the fewest innings in the majors.

Cubs-Rox game ends on a reversed call at home plate on a wild pitch. Would have only made it 9-8 Cubs instead of the 9-7 final, but it was a bit of a questionable reversal.
