Was waiting for one of the team supporters to start this thread, but with the news this morning that Van Gaal has actually been confirmed (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27243233), I figured it's time for this thread to exist.

I tend to think that while SAF would have had better results than Moyes this past season, they still would have just been fighting for 3rd/4th as a best case scenario based on the talent and aging of the team.

Now that the manager is set. What are the big roster moves that need to be made this summer?

Besides his Bayern team and the current Dutch squad I haven't seen much of Van Gaal's teams play but from everything I've read and seen its hard not to get excited about next year.  Allegedly there are enough transfer funds in place to bring in 4 excellent players but who knows.

Carrick's days seem a bit numbered unless he'll go with two ball controlling, defensive midfielders.  Strootman and Kroos are reportedly at the top of the shopping list.  The Guardian is reporting that he'll want to buy for defense first, then midfield, and maybe a winger.  IF Shaw comes in I think he and Januzaj have the most to gain as LVG is known to take younger talents under his wing and develop them.

I would think a LB, CB, and 2 CM's will come in.  It will be interesting to see how he handles the transfers while the World Cup is going on.  I'm of the opinion that player's stock can only rise during the tournament so I'd imagine they'd want some of the moves to happen sooner rather than later.

California. Duh.
Any concern that the lack of European football will cause you to miss out on some of your targets?  I've watched plenty of players and agents use Liverpool as a way to drive up interest, then ultimately sign with a team in the Champions League.

Not yet.  I think the club can still play last season off as a blip on the radar that won't happen again and Van Gaal makes the club look attractive to players.  If we miss out again then I'll be concerned but as long as United can still offer wages that are only second to Madrid, City, and PSG I think we'll be okay.

The Daily Mail is reporting that United have agreed to a deal for Toni Kroos for 20 million pounds.

If true I say we go all out and bid 30 million for Messi...

Someone told me there was NO WAY Toni Kroos was coming to Old Trafford....

Bayern can't keep everyone happy forever. Kroos leaving the nest, both club and country, for "the biggest club in the world" is his chance to become a global superstar.

Perhaps, and he is in the last year of his contract, but that price seems shockingly low for a 24 year old midfielder who pulled the strings for one of the top 3 teams in the world.

Nearly out of contract and has told the team he won't renew. They don't have a ton of leverage to demand a huge fee; better to take what they can get now instead of losing him for nothing after a pouty season.

I don't recall Kroos being hurt, just heavy squad rotation. Kroos tied David Alaba for the most starts of any outfield player for Bayern last year (45 each) and his 24 league starts were more than any other midfielder except Lahm and Muller, who started some matches at right back and forward respectively. He's clearly a key player for them even under Pep, so I think despite all the rhetoric they'll try to hold onto him.

Patrice Evra has extended his contract.  I don't think this affects the probability of a Luke Shaw move so I like the move a lot.  With Rio, Giggs, and Vidic all either retiring or leaving a senior figure was needed, especially in back.

Did he get some coupons to Manchester's Wheelchair and Walker Emporium, too?

Of the three (since Giggs is retiring), is Evra the one you would have kept?

No it would have been Vidic since, even though he's lost a step, he's still a force in the middle.

Evra was extremely poor this season but from everything I've read his locker room presence (FOR UNITED) is very good and I'd like a mentor for Shaw, who can't be expected to play every game if he arrives.

Will United be the next team to use Liverpool's scouting network by grabbing Yehvan Konoplyanka?

Do you know anything about him?  I try watching Youtube videos of him and I make it about 30 seconds in before the euro techno music makes me faint.

Any chance that Welbeck stays at United?  I think I read on ESPN (rumor mill) that Martinez was looking to possibly make a run at Welbeck.  With Rooney in the fold and Van Persie coming back healthy, is it possible to get Welbeck the time on the pitch he wants and needs?  Especially with the absence of European football (extra games to be played).

I'd have preferred Vidic around if I were you, too. I think of him like a John Terry who keeps his dick in his pants--maybe not the most athletic player, but he sees the game at a higher level.

Every time i read his name my brain adds in a Cyrillic letter so it looks like Koпoplyanka. Weird.

And now some amount of different owners in some amount of time thread title... Mr. Glazer has gone the way of Moyes' managing career. Dead at 85.

Luke Shaw for £27 million is done. He becomes the fourth-most-expensive defender in history, after Thiago Silva, David Luiz, and Rio Ferdinand.

I feel sick whenever I watch Paul Pogba and am reminded how good he is. Manchester United's Great White Buffalo.

Arsenal have to be the biggest 'selling club' in Europe.

Edit: When I say 'have to be' i mean they must be, not they strive to be or  they have to be [at all costs].

I won't disagree with that characterization based on the last five years (Fabregas, RVP, Nasri, Ade, etc) but I really couldn't give the smallest fuck about selling Vermaelen, a 28-year-old center back who is nifty with the ball at his own feet but cringe inducing when the ball happens to be in the possession of the other team.  And that's before even considering the injury issues.  If we can get 11M for Vermaelen and flip that money to spend on a young CB with actual promise who could be the eventual heir to Koscielny or Mertesacker, that's good business in my book.  And if Van Gaal thinks he can teach Vermaelen how to defend in the Premier League and play him over Evans/Jones/Smalling, then fine by me.

Couldn't say in general, but here they say they're simply passing on a report from Sky Italia's Di Marzio, who is very reliable.  That is just an agreement between Juve and Evra that Evra would play for Juve for 7m euros a season though, Juve and ManU would still have to work out a deal.  Fingers crossed that van gaal wants Evra as a backup and this all comes to nothing.

Didn't Evra just sign a new contract extension a few weeks ago?  Not that that would prevent him moving, but why would he do that if he wanted to leave?

Using a shiny gold Chevy bowtie not only looks horrible, it clashes with the yellow shade in the crest.  It's a different type of mistake from the Liverpool kits--which are the result of Warrior getting too clever by half--but in a sense it's just as bad because it's such a basic mistake.

It's a shame because the rest of the design is great.  Using black trim on the neck and sleeve is slick and the collar is creative without being ostentatiously so.
