Yeah, the door is open again.  There's a long way to go.  "typical city" means that we know better than to celebrate the league win the way liverpool has been for the last few weeks, but I legitimately have no clue how this ends.  Everton has been a bogey side, but that was under Moyes and they're awfully hurt.  But City without Silva just isn't quite as creative, this weekend's beautiful goal notwithstanding, and I'm terrified of a draw in any of the remaining 3.

The only thing that has my spirits high is that the Everton fans seem determined to root for City this weekend.  Their hatred of Liverpool is so complete that I think they'd score 3 OGs this weekend if it were up to them.  I hope that malaise for winning carries onto the pitch.

The parallels to 2012 are insane right now.

I would think City fans would and should be rooting pretty hard for Arsenal today.  If Arsenal drop points, Everton will be highly motivated this weekend.  If Arsenal win today, Everton could be a demoralized side.

Everton fans are comparing this to 1995, when Liverpool fans wanted to see Blackburn beat them so that they would win the title over United.

There is a minority who want to send out a weakened team but anything that happens to knowingly boost City's chances to win the title would be predicated on Newcastle getting a result tonight. If they do, then I'm in the camp of going for the win against City. If Arsenal win, then it'd be awfully easy to demotivate themselves against City and Hull.

Everton aren't guaranteed Europe quite yet, though.  They need: (1) at least a point, (2) United to drop points, or (3) Spurs to lose or DD.

Liverpool beat Blackburn in that game, which would have handed the title to the hated Manchester United.  Fortunately, the Mancs couldn't beat West Ham, and Rovers won it anyways.

Obviously I'm in a very different rooting position than 2012, but other than the fact you may win the title on goal difference, what are those parallels?

2012: You are the underdogs against the hated Manchester United, you hadn't won a Premier League title, they win all the time and were expected to again.  They had the race all but wrapped up but blew a few games late to let you back in. You got back in with a dramatic win against Man U late in the season, then won it with a once-in-a-generation comeback in the last game.

2014: You are the heavy favorites against Liverpool, a team that hasn't won a Premier League title and wasn't expected to be close this year.  City had the race all but wrapped up until dropping points in a few games while Liverpool won 11 in a row to get in the race.  You lost control when Liverpool got a dramatic win against you late in the season, but regained control when another rival helped you out by beating Liverpool.  Results are to be determined, but you are the favorites and control your destiny with 2 weeks to go.

I don't begrudge you guys if you end up winning it, but I think the public reaction to you winning a second title with the money you have invested in the club wouldn't be nearly as favorable as it was in 2012.  Yeah, you spent a ton of money then, too, but there was very much an "anyone but Man U" thing working for you guys then.  I'm curious to hear from your perspective where the parallels are.

I guess I'm not surprised that a Liverpool fan is worried about the moral victory :) (just banter)

You've got the intent of my statement all wrong.  It's not about the David vs Goliath storyline or who the neutrals would pull for.  It's about the run in.  City had it all in their hands, then hit a bad patch that saw them seem to be out of it, culminating with a draw to Sunderland and a loss to Arsenal that seemed to end the possibility.  Then United slips up, City get back in it, beat United and have a tough away at a tough at the time Newcastle (now Everton) followed by home match (this year home matches) against relegation-ish sides who aren't going to go down easily.

The only difference, and in my opinion this is major, is that City beat United head to head that season with everything on the line.  I'm still depressed that City lost/drew to Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea late this season, it's probably the biggest reason why I remain pessimistic that we have what it takes to take all the points in the next 3 matches.

Yeah, it was the difference between beating Man U down the stretch in 2012 vs. losing to Liverpool this year that had me wondering if there was some other parallel that I was missing.

If you guys end up winning it, you will deserve it, although I obviously hope there's another twist in the race somewhere.

A Lost Time
I just read that UEFA imposed a huge fine on City for financial fair play violations, something like 60 million euros. There's also restrictions on the number of players City can keep on her roster down to 21 from 25.

Link.

Wow. Also, there is a "spending cap to ensure there is no rise on this season's Champions League A squad wage bill."

Significant news, if UEFA holds firm - which, given the track record is pretty unlikely. But still...wow.

0-0 at the half v. Villa......please, for the love of God, put this away or lose out right.  Don't tease a poor Liverpool fan with a draw

Congrats to teddy and all other City fans out there. In the end, they were the best and strongest team this year. It'll be interesting to see if FFP will have any effect on them going forward. But most of all, congratulations on being far and away the best team in Manchester.

Congrats to Ryan and teddykgb and anyone else who wears the right shirt in Manchester. You now have as many top flight titles as the mighty Sheffield Wednesday, so you can really hold your heads up high.

Thanks, Justin.

What a fucking fun club to root for. Yaya's thundering 50-yard run to goal with a minute and change left against Villa (with the result having been wrapped up long before) basically summed up the City aesthetic in one neat and tidy moment. Attack, attack, attack. Then attack some more.

Loved to see the backlash today. From underdog miracle workers to "plastic blue cunts" unworthy of being dubbed a "proper" club in just two seasons. Bring it on ...

I was at the Landing for a Manchester Derby maybe 5 years ago and there must have been 200 people in there- 198 wearing Red. Belgium excluded you won't catch me in red, and there was one dude leaning up against one of the posts in the middle with a sky blue kit and a scarf. City held tough for 30 or so, but ManU overwhelmed them and this kid just stoically took it as a bunch of stupid cunts taunted him and shouted things at him from the safety of the crowd.

It's easy for ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc supporters to talk about their proper clubs and shit on Chelsea and City when good fortune brings them the kind of funding only a few clubs previously had. I would club a baby seal for some frighteningly rich foreigner to buy Wednesday and give us some proper winning football. And I will laugh with joy until I soil myself everytime someone calls me or my club 'plastic' or any other such nonsense.

Typical City indeed, and how delightful that must be.

I think I might take healthy Aguero over any other striker in the league.

So there's that.
What's a healthy Aguero and how do I find one?

City's statement on the ffp is pretty funny. Essentially calls out UEFA for being lying dickheads but says that the punishments won't hurt them so why bother fighting them.
