Just when it looks like they hit on a receiver in the draft ... best case scenario, please

Definitely lucky the diagnosis wasn't worse. But for a rookie receiver in this offense, missing the remaining preseason is still a pretty big hit. I'd love to see him come back and contribute. As good as this offense is with the two tight end set, it could really use a big, athletic WR outside the numbers.

On the plus side it was said he picked up the nuances of the offense pretty well. What's the roster move? IRDTR is Nink, right? Or do they not need to do that stuff yet?

No roster move is needed as of yet. He's not going on IR if he's out 4 weeks. Most likely, if he progresses towards that 4 week timetable they'll carry him on the 53 and make him inactive if he's not ready.

You don't need to dtr anyone anymore. You can ir them and decide who is coming back later.

IRDTR is no more. Instead it's just IR and you can choose one guy at your leisure. Given Nink is a 4-6 week thing, he'll either be carried on the roster a few games as a dead spot or PUP'd.

If anyone goes on PUP going forward it will be Nate Ebner to get into football shape.

Can't PUP. You can only PUP if they started training camp on the PUP.
Well I should have known that. My guess is they just play a man short a few games, though that may change if a few more guys go down.

I hate preseason.

Hope it's indeed a short recovery period. Some players just have that "it" quality. He showed some signs of being able to get open, break tackles and catch the ball, albeit in a ridiculously small sample. Jimmy looked a lot better when he was throwing to Mitchell (and Bennett for that matter). If Edelman, Amendola, Hogan and of course Gronk are all back and ready to go Week 1 it will matter a lot less, but this kid is promising.

Losing practice reps hurts but he likely isn't a significant contributor until one Dola or Hogan gets hurt anyways.

If he can come back by week 4 he will hopefully be ready to contribute by week 10 which is probably around the time they need him.

What would make you feel Ebner isn't in football shape? He isn't playing a timing position such as QB or WR. Ebner is simulating football conditioning right now since he's well......playing rugby football.

“@KevinRDuffy: Mitchell is wearing a pad/sleeve on his left arm (the one that bent in two different directions during the preseason opener).”

“@MikeReiss: WR Malcolm Mitchell, who dislocated his left elbow Thursday, is dressed in full pads with teammates for start of practice with the Bears.”

“@ZackCoxNESN: Tough to see here, but Malcolm Mitchell is wearing a Gronk-esque brace on his injured arm. https://t.co/EtJx8rG6vA

Mitchell not even in a red non-contact jersey. Any updates on if they are holding him out of drills and team sessions? Thought he might be out there just to get some running/conditioning in, but that brace looks like he is ready to go.

He spent nearly all of his Georgia career injured, constantly fighting through ailments and often suffering bigger injuries(ACL 2013 torn here on this jump to celebrate), and seems like a very tough kid that has had some fluky injuries. Here's hoping he can make it through camp without anything else and have one of his most injury free seasons since his freshman year in college this year at the pro level and show the skills he flashed between injuries in college.

That's crazy, he looked absolutely jacked in his rugby uniform. I mean, I get that he would lose weight from all the running, but he just looked so much bigger than he does in pads.
Yeah the Belispeak of him being out of football for 8-9 month is funny too. Had the Pats not made the playoffs he would have entered training camp without 8 months of football like everyone else. Sure he's behind and he must make a quick mindset shift but so are other guys who missed a month due to injuries. It's special teams not nuclear physics.
