Larry Bird is 60 years old. Which makes me feel old.

There are rumors about Bird taking another GM job, perhaps in Orlando, but my hunch is that he's easing himself into retirement.

Wish he'd traded the Celts Paul George for next year's Nets pick first

I think this makes it much more likely George gets traded this offseason.
I think so too, but the flip side of it is Pritchard is going to be looking to make a splash, so I think he'll be much harder to deal with than a resigned to moving George Larry Bird would be.

Bird was quoted recently as saying that he "wished he could rebuild the way other teams are allowed to rebuild" insinuating that his owners wish to remain a .500 team as they add guys like Monta Ellis, Rodney Stuckey and Al Jefferson rather than being allowed to mold a young team the way he wants, the way Ainge has, without the W-L record of a particular season placing a stranglehold on his moves.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard this news was George and as he looked over the Laker roster on players he could get in return, quickly vomited and decided he didn't want to live through this hell any longer. Of note, Scal also mentioned on the telecast last night that he's been told that George's demeanor has changed since Magic took over in LA and that is where he wants to eventually go.

I don't feel Bird is done with this game yet.

His demeanor changed? WTF does that even mean?
Perhaps it means George has indicated to people close to him that as a Southern Californian native Laker fan who probably idolizes Magic Johnson, naming him President creates stability and makes him even more confident its where he wants to be?

George grew up a Clipper fan. He was also like 2 years old when Magic first retired.
Fair point about the Clips, but it was Kobe he reportedly idolized as a youth. Either way, Paul George's youth in the LA area seems to have an influence on him still and I could easily see Magic being part of the draw.

If he doesn't make the all-NBA team, and is therefore not eligible for the supermax, I'm guessing he gets dealt. If he does make all NBA, the difference between what he gets from the Pacers and everyone else means that he signs an extension.

With how he finished the year, it's hard seeing him not make all-NBA, which probably means Hayward doesn't...

That's my hope, because If Hayward isn't eligible for the super max then maximizing his earnings requires a four year deal with an ETO, which means that Boston's in the running.

Oh come on.

His demeanor changed? WTF does that even mean?
Don't shoot the messenger I was only repeating what Scal said about what he was told. Magic's impact goes far beyond the basketball court out there...in LA, he's an icon.

Pacers were reportedly offered 4 first-round picks for George at the deadline and Bird said "no". Wonder if that leaked and was part of the disagreement. That's a tough deal to turn down for a guy likely leaving.

Depends on whose picks Atlanta was offering and what sort of protections they had. If it was the '19 Cavs pick, the '18 Wolves pick, and two of their own (with lottery protection), that's kind of a crappy offer.

If anything, it is likely the opposite. Ownership seems to want to do everything to try to keep George and compete for the playoffs every year. Reports were that Bird was frustrated by their refusal to bottom out so as to rebuild completely.

Rumor was that it was ATL that offered those picks. Since picking Horford # 3 in 2007, ATL has picked 21, 15, 15, 17, 18, 23, 24, 19 in the first rounds. Add to their team, someone like Paul George, and those picks would look about the same over the next 4 years.

In other words. Yuck. I would rather trade George for one top 5 lottery pick, or even not trade him at all, than for four picks in the 15-20 range.
