Better shooting clip at 3/7 today for Lonzo, but good for only 6 points in a home loss to the Suns, who don't quite play defense.

Also, how has LiAngelo not been dinged by the NCAA for the Big Baller Brand using his name to promote their brand?

I get that he's suspended anyways for his international indiscretions, but shouldn't this be costing him his eligibility in the first place?

They need that hype machine to justify the pick, hell their next pick in the draft is likely the one they should be hyping. If Lonzo doesn't spend this entire off-season re-working his shot he's done in 3 years.
You mean the pick that will hopefully come in at #2 and right into the Celtics lap?

I have a theory about Jail-o -- Lavar is always undermining him by saying he's the brother least likely to make it to the NBA. Maybe this theft + acting out is subconsciously a way to ruin his own prospects (and sabotage his brand) so that he doesn't have to ride the Ball hype train for the rest of his life.

Shock - shocked! - that a hometown scorer is helping the marquee player pad his stats.
Lonzo Ball’s second NBA triple double might not be all that his box score from the Los Angeles Lakers’ 127-109 win over the Denver Nuggets would make it out to be. As TheJumpBall.net’s Mo Dakhil pointed out, at least two of the UCLA product’s assists—one to Jordan Clarkson and another to fellow rookie Kyle Kuzma—looked dubious, at best.

And Lavar gets into a pissing match with the laker coaches. Who didn't see this coming?

You know the parent at a high school game that is constantly talking about how his kid just isn't being properly utilized by his team? Well that kid plays in the NBA now, and his dad isn't any different. LaVar Ball disagrees with how the Lakers and coach Luke Walton have handled his son Lonzo to this point, and he can't keep it bottled up any longer.

"They're soft. They don't know how to coach my son," Ball said of the Lakers, per Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus. "I know how to coach him. I tell him to go get the victory. Stop messing around."

The Lakers have started the season 7-10, and although Ball has a pair of triple-doubles in that span, his shooting has been poor.

"Go get the W. Do whatever it takes. That's why I'm down here saying, 'Rebound,'" LaVar Ball said. "He's been away from me too long. I see tendencies in his game -- they're trying to baby him a little bit. ... What I mean by babying, 'He'll figure it out.' It ain't about that. 'Be patient with him?' Ain't no patience if you're winning."

Ball also said that there aren't excuses for the way that the Lakers are playing.

"They're letting it go too easy, saying they're a young team," he said. "Forget about that! Put the [onus] on them. Say, 'You guys need to win. You've got enough talent. Win some games.'"

Walton doesn't share Ball's philosophy. "As you're building, you're on that path. It's never [smooth]," he said, via Pincus. "It's never just you get it and all of a sudden you don't have slippage anymore. Every team goes through it. The important thing for us is that we learn from our mistakes, we keep our head up, we keep working and grinding away to get where we all want to be."

Although they're generally accepted to be in the midst of a rebuild, Ball isn't happy with that. But he says that his problem isn't with Walton himself. When asked if he had issues with Walton, he replied "No, I have a problem with losing."

"Stop messing around." Is really some constructive coaching advice there, dad. It's the coach's fault. If they would just turn Lonzo loose, then you'd see.

"He's been away from me too long."

Seriously, at what point does this kid man up and tell his father to shut the f*ck up?
At what point does Magic do it? You know he won't tolerate this for long. At that point does Lavar back off out of respect for Magic or does this become the Laker Lonzo War? If there is one guy he might respect it's Magic but I highly doubt it.

"Rebound" is solid coaching advice. He sounds like a FBoFW cartoon. Reminds me of a game I caught at Fenway where a bunch of drinks kept screaming "Hit a homah, Nomah." Amazing strategy.

In my experience it's time to stop drinking when the drinks start talking/screaming.

I think it's far more likely the behavior of someone who's entitled and who thinks they can (or has been able to) get away with anything.

Or he's just a teenager doing dumb-ass things. Sometimes a dumb-ass is just a dumb-ass.

Didn't know that was a regular feature, as I'd never seen a review posted on the main ESPN site before. Makes more sense knowing that I guess.
Oh, I had the same response when I saw that on the ESPN app last night. But I guess this is the kind of thing that gets "sneakerheads" to tune in. I'm not sure if they always do these unboxing things, but it appears that guy's only function is to talk about shoes.

They lay off a hundred people, but keep a guy who talks about shoes? Okay then.

They probably pay him peanuts in comparison and the young audience most definitely cares about this stuff. I’m sure they have metrics that bear this out.

They definitely cut their staff off at the head and kept as much mid level ‘talent’ as possible. Got rid of the high paid people..but also some/most of the most interesting.

Imagine they’re banking on the real draw being the brand. They can’t save enough by cutting the lower end (and they probably need the number of hands there). I’m sure they figure “we made these people” and that they’ll just do next man up for cheaper. Very Belichickian if you think about it.

And yet they keep useless overpaid trash like Desmond Howard and Jailin Rose.

Is "jailin" supposed to be some sort of snarky joke? In any case, I think Jalen Rose is about the best thing on ESPN.

Yeah.. I think if you're making a list of people at ESPN that aren't worth the money Jalen is pretty far down it. I like a number of the ex NBA players on their.. they actually know what they're talking about and sometimes provide a little bit of insight into the game. Better than hearing Hubie Brown say 'high percentage' 300 times a game.

Per TMZ, LiAngelo will not return to UCLA. LaVar pulled him out of school amid his shoplifting suspension.

This might be the only thread on the entire site, and perhaps the internet at large, on which every update brings me some level of joy.

Lavar was upset at UCLA's punishment and said we shouldn't put a spotlight on a kid for a mistake.

I actually agree with that, but taking him out of school only intensifies that.

What’s LaVar going to do when no college will take his son? Make his own NCAA team?

Will make for a nice chapter in the 30 for 30. Poor kid. He really is the Jan Brady of the bunch. Hope Lonzo shares his money.

The other two players are probably happy. Now that Ball is out no one will follow this story as much and maybe get back sooner.
